My Dog: The Illusionist

My dog is my best friend ever since I got him for my 10th birthday. He has his off days where he can be grouchy but to me he is still the playful puppy he once was. This happens quite frequently and is on going. When my mother isn't around he follows me everywhere, although I love him it can get kind of annoying. He's even here now staring at me... I don't know when this first occurred but I know I'd leave him in kitchen with door closed and heading upstairs, he'd be up there in one of the bedrooms asleep. Now, he can scrape the door to open it but only when its ajar; when the door is shut fully however he is yet able to grow 6ft tall and turn the handle! Note: he's a small shiatsu. A few times it would happen in various parts of the house me closing one door on him and finding him in a total different spot. Once he was put out the back yard with the door bolted shut only to hear whining coming from the bathroom!

I'm not scared by it, just a little creeped out but I once got in trouble with my parents over it. They had gone for a drive and it was just me and the dog. As I said he follows me. I can hear him going up and down the stairs, scratching at doors trying to find me... How cute.

So anyway I was on the computer, door is closed to the right of me, its a small room so can see everything. The dog is lying down on the floor beside chair and I'd often put my hand down to stroke him making sure he's alright. So then a few hours later I heard the front door downstairs opening and my mam came up to me she asked, "Why was the dog outside? You know he can't be outside with all the greyhounds around". I was astounded and dumbfounded and immedietely looked to where he had been and nothing.

I heard paws pounding up the stairs and panting and I suddenly became oddly uncomfortable. I was trying to explain I didn't leave him out he was right here, and why would I just open the door to let him out? Which they didn't believe. The dog came in looking very pleased with himself anyway (groan).

That's what I meant 😁 I was just saying that the idea itself about it being a spirit wasn't entirely mine, granny planted the seed, and I mentioned a logical conclusion. I mean wouldn't you let it out if it were about to "tinkle"?

Teneki, I don't know why but when I saw the sentence '...the dog was about to have an accident', I thought you meant as if he was going to go toilet in the house! πŸ˜† That's how I thought it was funny. πŸ˜†

JBarum, maybe you saw a pet doppelganger. I don't think that would explain all your experiences, though, Casper. Especially the one where you were petting the dog and then it ran in from outside. When I was quite young, I had a kitten who disappeared and never was found. Shortly after he went missing I felt and heard him as though he were climbing up the side of my bed to get in bed with me like he used to (he was too little to jump onto the bed, so would claw his way up the blanket). Of course, when I looked, there was no cat there. I sometimes feel as though something like a cat or small dog is walking on my bed when nothing is actually there. Maybe it was GreenEyes2012's cat, out for an invisible walk during his missing week.

i am sure it is not anything to bad dogs are kind of creepy in that way like this one moment she sitting on the couch with me the next she is in my bed room half way up the whole house she also is walking with me side by side then at the front door in a blick of an eye I do not understand it really but sometimes it kind of funny so I would not worry much a bout that ok! πŸ˜†

My manner is vague and aloof
You would think there is nobody shyer
But my voice has been heard on the roof,
When I was curled up by the fire.
And I was sometines been heard by the fire,
When I was about on the roof.
At least they all heard that somebody purred
Wich is uncontestable proof of my magical powers...
MAGICAL MR MISTOFFELEES BY ANDREW LOYD WEBBER

I had the most clever cat (he was 19 years old when he died) that could jump closed doors open.
He would jump on the handel and then kick the door open at the same time. And close it again after himself...

lol yeah I have the same story with my cat Jade. I was home alone and Jade wanted to go outside, so I let her out, then I could her meowing coming from somewhere wihin the house. I located the sound to my dads tool room where the door is ALWAYS closed and there she is, sitting inside that room o_O weird right. I told dad about it when he came home and now we think Jade has teleportation powers πŸ˜†

If it's a ghost that's opening the doors for the dog, it may have let the dog out because the dog was about to have... An accident and didn't want it to get in trouble.

Haha GreenEyes, happy you finally found your kitty, cats are like ninjas they can move quick as the wind, camouflage themselves and jump high and duck low. My dog is old and not as agile on his feet that's why its so suspicious for him to vanish without me knowing. Bellcandle, is your cat going to be your partner in crime? πŸ˜†. JBarum, yes your right every building these days seems to be built on some sacred ground: I was watching Amityville Horror there 2 nights ago and wouldn't you know it too was built on top of some burial ground ugh.

Casper, I love this account! I have a somewhat similar story with a cat. I was living in a very tiny apartment, and my kitty, Griffin, went missing. I lived alone and was always very careful to make sure he didn't get out. He never really wanted to anyways. To make a long story short, my friends and I looked for him for over a week, to no avail. I turned the place upside down trying to find where he could have went. One day I was sitting on the couch, I had totally given up hope of finding him, and there he was! Sitting on the end of the couch like nothing had happened. Not a scratch on him. I'm convinced he went into some weird kitty vortex. I've never been able to figure out where he was for that week. If only they could talk!

I have a cat that can and does open every door in my house. I had to have small manual locks put on every door I don't want her to open. I have watched her do it, and I still don't understand how she works it, but she uses her paws like they are sticky to turn the knobs, and swings her weight around until the door comes open. I'm wondering if she could do the same thing with bank vaults. 😜

Well, we only had 1 dog. So, it had to have been something else. I saw and experience MANY weird things at that particular house. It was quite an old house and was a rental... So many people were in and out of it. Not to mention, supposedly the area was built on an ancient Indian burial ground. But then again, seems that everything is.

That happened to me once when I was living in this duplex many years ago. I am not sure if when you're seeing the dog and then seeing him somewhere else are right after each other. (no time lapsed) But that's what happened to me only worse. I was in the computer room on the internet. My dad's dog Riker was in the living room, laying by the door that led to the front porch. I thought nothing of it until I went into my dad's room to ask him something and the dog was laying next to him. My eyes went wide as I stared at Riker... He was JUST in the living room. I asked my dad "how long has he been in here?" He replied "a while, why?" I didn't even respond. I had many paranormal experiences growing up and my dad never believed me... Creeped me out though because I know what I saw.

Thank you all for your comments, every last one is extremely helpful. Hmm shapeshifters like Sam in True Blood? Sounds good πŸ˜‰. I seriously don't know how he does it but I love my dog very much so I won't let it bother me too much well until he gets me into trouble again πŸ€”

Jav,

Enjoyed that one as well... But the one that really got me was a short story... The Man Who Sold the Moon... I read it and many others in The Past Through Tomorrow. Just saying...

Sorry for the hijack...

Casper,
I know just how you feel. My older dog, Tazer, is a short, tan colored pit bull. We have hard wood floors. He can camoflage himself on the floor so well that half the time you don't know he's there until you trip over him. And that is annoying! But he's also about the same age as your dog. And one of the things I've noticed is that nobody ever remembers who let the dogs in or out of the house or certain rooms. I believe it has more to do with us doing things for them out of habit so often that we don't recall doing them.
But that's just my take on it.

Rook,
"Stranger in a strange land" did it for me.

Reminds me of my little dog... I was laying in bed a couple of weeks ago when suddenly I could see my screen door sliding across with no one visible doing it... For a fleeting moment I thought it may be paranormal until I lifted my head off my bed and it was our little Jack Russell using her paw to slide the door open... πŸ˜†...but as clever as our little four legged friends are, I don't think they can turn door nobs and agree with Granny... Sounds like you may have a ghosite with a soft heart for man's best friend... Thank you for sharing.

Thanks Rook for sharing that 😊. That is a theory I have never thought of that before and it really makes me think. I'm going to have to read that book.

Casper,

Reading this experience reminded me of a Robert Heinlen book called 'The Cat Who Walks Through Walls'.

In it there is a kitten named 'Pixel' who seems to walk through walls... Kinda like what your describing your dog to be doing. In the story the running theory is that because the kitten does not realize it can not walk through walls it is able to do so... All it knows is 'I want to be with...' or 'I want to go outside' and off he goes in the most direct route possible... If a wall is in the way he walks right through it becasue it doens't 'exist' for him, all that matters is where he wants to be.

So maybe your dog does this for himself... Or maybe there is a spirit in your home that let's him in/out of places...

Maybe a good time for an experiment... Attach a Micro-miniature camera to his collar and 'see' what happens.

Thanks for sharing.

Respectfully,

Rook

Casper: I think you have a spirit who loves your dog! πŸ˜†...Although, I can't imagine why they would let him out... My dogs have escaped a few times too, but that's from careless owners who don't make sure the door is completely closed (oops!), I'd like to blame it on ghosties though, but I don't think that excuse would fly with the hubby! πŸ˜†...

Thanks for the giggles! ❀

Thank you for submitting your story. I find this intersting because I have a cat that does the exact same thing. I will lock her outside for the night and a couple hours later she will jump on my bed and cuddle with me. I know for certain no one let her in because everyone in the house is sound asleep. I have never came up with a satisfactory explanation for this, and I'm happy to hear I'm not the only one. Who knows maybe there is a such thing as shapeshifters 😊
