The Shadow That Changed My Life

I guess I will go ahead and give a background to this event. It was the early 90's and I was about 8 years old. Our family had moved from Beaverton, Oregon to a much smaller Vancouver, WA. The house we had moved into was not on a street, but located in the backyard of a house. My understanding of it now is that this old house was built before the city grid was laid out, and thus ending up between two city blocks.

It was a small cottage, the attic was converted into 2 bedrooms and being a kid, it was deemed habitable for me to live in. I always felt uneasy in the house and sometimes scared. I would sit outside in the front yard waiting for my parents to come home, when I was left alone. Being 8 and not knowing about real ghosts or hauntings, it really didn't make sense at the time.

Now, here is my encounter. One night while I was sleeping, I felt hot and decided to sit up in bed. At this point nothing felt weird or wrong. As I looked to my left about 3 feet standing from me was a solid shadow of a figure. This figure was standing still and I could feel it staring down at me. I could not see the eyes or any human features. A porch light shed a minute amount of light up into my room, enough for me to say that this figure was darker than anything else in the room. Sitting up in bed I would figure its height to be about 4' 10". A solid head, shoulders, torso and arms with one arm perched on the headpiece of the bed. After a couple seconds, maybe 2 or 3 knowing that this thing was not human, I threw the covers over my head and laid in fear. Not knowing at all what this thing was, or why it was standing next to my bed, staring at me. Minutes turned to hours, hours turned into morning. I only decided to lift the blanket and peak out when I could feel the sun warm the room.

I can honestly say that this was the most pure fear I have ever felt. The presence was not kind or neutral, the feeling that I had, instinctively told me that this was a harmful entity. I still think about this encounter bi-weekly, almost 19 years later. Not a night terror, not a shadow on the wall.

I apologize if this was hard to read, I'm not a writer. After all this time I just needed to get it off my chest.

A lot of people have a preconception that shadow people are bad because of their name and appearence. As children, we see thingi in movies and tv shows and read about how anything "dark" is bad or evil. This message is so drilled into our minds that any dark figure is then classified as "evil" or "bad" because of their appearence. However, we also have to remember that as children we are taught not to be afraid of the dark. Shadow people generally will not do anything, in fact on multiple accounts I have witnessed a small group of shadow people protecting me. Shadow people are not evil entities, their mostly given a bad rap because of their appearence and name. However, the power of someones mind can change a shadow person into something bad if the person believes strongly enough that shadow people are evil.

it seems the same as what I saw, mine was outside my window however, but I'm quite relieved that you believed my story, as you have seen the same being (and at the same age) I'm not sure what to make of my experience but if it had intended to harm it would have done already.
Although its frighting I'm sure this creature won't hurt us.

Hey JB, about the aggressive ones - I believe they hurt others because they themselves are hurt and in pain. And in doing so that is also in no way by any means coping with their pain but only aggravating their own sadness.

They want others to feel their pain which in my view is very selfish and there is no need to take it out on others, hurting and abusing others while they suffer is wicked... Since they only make themselves and not only others more miserable.

They should realize that their pain has nothing to do with others, but their own baggage to sort out.

If they want help or Love, they won't get any by being spiteful and hateful... They must get an ATTITUDE CHANGE!

They have no power over you when you realize what pathetic creatures they really are... When you tell them they need to clean their S*H*I*T up, because you'd never want to be as sad and pathetic as they are... They feed off fear, and how can you fear something that is its own worst enemy?!

I've seen a couple shadow people. Most of which happened when I was much younger... My former friend actually caught one on her camera, not even trying. I wish I still had the picture. It was on an old computer of mine. (I have bad luck with electronics) Anyway... I've never felt welcomed by their presence. Some of more threatening than others... But all, for me anyway, seemed to be up to no good.

Yea I agree they definitely need to work on their communication skills! Lol. I never thought to look up info on them but I'm going to check it out! I know they usually relate shadow people to sleep paralysis hallucinations but I know I was wide awake when I saw it.

OMG I just read this: "Shadows find their form in the LIGHT! Tired of the darkness!"

Those shadows who also just come out wanting to scare people who are in the "light" - to them the reaction they get from that acknowledgement is their "LIGHT"... They are tired of the darkness and not getting noticed, and when they do want to get noticed, they overdo it a little bit, I don't think it is wise, because many times they just create more darkness with their ignorance regarding how to better relate with the living instead of scaring the sh>i<t out of them... If they want LOVE OR LIGHT then they better start thinking of other ways to make themselves known, because seeking for LIGHT with an act of darkness won't get them what they really need.

I think they are very sad creatures!

Some things even people feel empty and invisible... Maybe they just seek some type of acknowledgement. The shadow figure I saw also had its head dropped, it looked sad and hopeless, somber and depressed. Psychics or people who are sensitive to Spirit are like beacons of light, they are attracted to the Light... They want Light or direction maybe.

What I saw just simply stood there looking at me. It obviously meant no harm but it was just natural to be scared at the moment although I wasn't afraid after it disappeared. I get that sense now too that it was just a spirit of some sort as you say maybe checking in or just curious. Why they come to certain people, I don't know.

I had a "shadowy figure" come and sit on my bed one night, it wasn't hostile nor aggressive. My Guardian Angel said something in the line of "Don't be afraid he is just checking in". My fear subsided and it vanished. There was no words or something said between me and the shadow spirit. But I do wonder what my Guardian Angel meant by "just checking in", it sat on the bed looking away from me. Maybe the message was "what can you see on the back of a shadow"...maybe as in "what sorrows do these shadow figures not carry", they don't seem happy and seek understanding or "love" and "light" from those they "check in on". My Guardian further said: "Just leave it (ignore it), it won't harm you."

I had the same thing happen to me a few years ago, I woke up and noticed a solid shadow standing at the foot of my bed. I thought I was seeing things so I rubbed my eyes and looked again trying to adjust to the dark and it was still there. My first thought was omg someone broke into my house! I laid there stiill for a bit not knowing what to do. It never moved, I rubbed my eyes one more time and when I opened them, the shadow had moved from the foot of my bed to the corner of it. At this point I got so scared I kind of sat up and debated on whether to yell out to my daughter or try for the light switch but I was scared of doing either one in fear that it would trigger this thing to attack me. I glanced over to where my light switch was thinking that was my best bet and when I looked back it was gone! I never saw it again (thank god) but I've always had strange things happen to me in my house.

Reza84,
You aren't the first one I've heard say they thought it was an alien. Not a whole lot of people have said it, but enough that it makes you wonder.
The other dark figure we used to hear of most often was refered to as "The Shadow Man". He is tall, thin, and wears a wide brimmed hat and a long coat. He has at times, been reported to have spoken, but not often. Most say they got a bed feeling from him, as if they were being observed. Like a lab rst kind of feeling... These two dark figures are simply an enigma to me. I don't feel like they are the same species. They are different from each other in small but significant ways. But I don't think either one of them is up to any good.
You are correct, this wasn't sleep paralysis. Paralysis being the defining word of this syndrome, and you had none. You woke up, sat up in bed, stared back and forth at him and laid back down with the covers over your eyes. Sounds like you had command of your faculties, which is all that needs to be said about that.
Thank you for getting back to me about my comment, I appreciate it. 😊

Jav ❤

Javelina,
This was an actual thing in my room, sometimes people can be confused but this was not a sleep paralysis episode. I was not paralyzed, touched or physically harmed, just observed. At first I didn't think anything was wrong until I looked and saw it. I didn't sleep in the room for 2 weeks though. In all honesty, I thought it was a space alien:) I have not since seen it, about 19 years now. And am pretty sure whatever it was stayed with the house when we moved.

Reza84,
This is very interesting in that your description of this dark figure differs a bit from a lot of others. That is why I tend to believe you more. For instance, in other descriptions you will find the figure to be imposingly taller. Sometimes up to 8 and 9 feet tall. Plus, you don't say a thing about it physically touching you.
I'm glad that it hasn't been back, as I'm sure you are. Whatever it was, whatever the plan, seems you didn't fit the bill. And that is a good thing. 😊

Thank you for sharing,

Jav

I believe that this incident as a child has helped me to achieve a more well rounded understanding of spirituality as a unknown. Had this terrifying experience not have happened, Who knows what type of conformist, in the box view I might have.

It was not hard to read, but I am curious as to how it changed your life? Are you less fearful? More tuned in to spirits?

I do think these things can be life altering...
