My Haunted Homes

Over the years I have lived in two houses and a flat which I believe to have been haunted. I have written about the first house on this site previously. Now I'd like to tell you about the subsequent experiences I have had in two different homes.

The first of which was when I lived in a Victorian house that had been converted into two flats. I lived in the top flat with my boyfriend and our baby son. The first night there I'd made our evening meal and we all sat in the living room at the front of the flat to eat our meals whilst watching TV. Afterwards I took the empty plates into the kitchen (which is situated at the back of the flat). As I opened the door and entered the kitchen, I saw the end piece of some garlic bread rocking to and fro on the bread board. The kitchen had been empty for a good 25 minutes by this point.

Another time I was changing my son's nappy in the bedroom and in my peripheral vision I saw a black figure dart past the open bedroom door. My son had obviously seen something too because he turned his head at the same time and kept his eyes fixed on the doorway. My son was only around 11 months old at the time, so we couldn't verbally communicate with one another about what we had both witnessed.

One evening I was sat in the living room talking on the phone to my boyfriend who was working away at the time. I was cradling my sleeping son in one arm and had the phone in my other hand. All of a sudden something or someone hit the back of my head, hard enough to push my head forwards. I shot off the armchair still holding my son and the phone, spun around but nothing was there.

Numerous times whilst in the kitchen washing up, I felt as though someone was behind me only to turn round and find nobody was there. On one occasion though, whilst washing up one of the loops on the waist of my jeans was tugged. As I turned around nothing was there. It didn't get caught on anything as it was the loop on my right hand side. I had plenty of space on either side of me.

The final thing of note that happened in this flat was one night I was sound asleep in bed (my boyfriend was next to me asleep in bed and my son was the other side of me sleeping in his cot). I woke suddenly to see the face of a young boy literally about an inch from mine, peering at me. Needless to say I screamed and screamed in fright. The screaming woke my boyfriend up (but luckily not my son). He asked me what was going on and I told him that I was hallucinating and to go back to sleep. To this day I'm not sure if it was a hallucination or not. The only reason I doubt it is because it was the middle of the night when it happened but the boy seemed illuminated.

We moved from this flat (not because of the odd things happening but because we wanted more space) into a house with a garden.

This house I feel was also haunted. When we were in the living room my boyfriend would always sit in the armchair and I would sit on the sofa. From the armchair you could see into the hall. My boyfriend on numerous occasions would say he thought he could see someone in the hall in his peripheral vision but when he looked properly nobody was there.

One weekend whilst my son and I were away visiting relatives, my boyfriend came home and saw two saucepans in the middle of the kitchen floor, both upright and both with their handles pointing in the same direction.

We didn't like the feeling on the landing at the top of the stairs. It was a very heavy and oppressed feeling. The bathroom was situated just off there and I don't know why but I just couldn't bear to have my eyes closed whilst showering in there.

Once I woke up in the middle of the night to see in the darkness a woman stood at the end of my bed. There must have been enough light from outside as I could see she had short afro hair and was wearing a mac with a silk scarf around her shoulders. She lingered for a few seconds and then was gone. I didn't recognise her and I am not sure if I was dreaming or not but thought I would add it in anyway.

One time I was washing up and I accidentally dropped a plate on the floor. I swept it all up and went to put the broken pieces into the bin outside. When I came back, I was startled to see a penny on the floor right where I had just swept the area clean.

In the kitchen again, I had left a plastic milk bottle on the side to go into the recycling. I was sat in the living room and I could hear a rattling noise... It was the top on the empty milk bottle rattling on its own. I wasn't sure whether or not to include this bit as I thought it might have been trapped air escaping from the bottle but my boyfriend didn't think it was, so I've put it in anyway so you can make your own minds up.

We have since moved from here but not long after we moved my son (referring to the previous house) asked me "who the stomping man was and why did he stomp around?" I asked my son where this man was and he said downstairs. I tried to ask him what he looked like etc but my son was only four at the time and wanted to play. I wasn't, and I am still not, keen on bringing it back up because my son is still only young.

The house we are in now is peaceful and quiet, apart from not long after my boyfriend's dad sadly passed away last September, on three occasions I could smell him. One evening last December, I was going upstairs and I could hear something. As I got to the top of the stairs and reached the bathroom, I could see the sink tap was on full blast. It definitely wasn't on the last time I was up there which was around 30 minutes before. This really freaked me out, so much so that I was shaking.

Nothing has happened since that's why I think it might have been my boyfriend's dad and he didn't mean to scare me. Around the time of this happening some strange things were happening at my boyfriend's mum's house too which was another reason for me thinking it was him.

Thanks for reading, if anyone has any explanations for anything I have experienced I would love to hear them.

Valkricry:

That is very interesting. I am going to find the penny and have a look at the date on it 😊

BlessedWildAppleGirl,
My mom also believed in 'pennies from heaven'. She said that they were signs from someone who had passed that they were thinking of you. According to her particular version of this legend the year on the penny often offers a clue as to who it was as the date would either be the year of their birth or death. Also part of the experience seems to be that the appearance of the penny would sort of 'deny' it's having been dropped by someone. For instance, you had just swept that spot.

[at] Griff84: Thanks for your comment. A friend of mine asked a medium about the penny on the floor and she said it was a sign from departed loved ones. I'm unsure about this though but thought I'd let you know as you spent time looking it up. I'm sure it must have some significance but I still don't know what. I did keep the penny though.

[at] Nectarvore: They say young children are sensitive to the paranormal and can see things adults can't. I didn't see "the stomping man" at all. Did you see the man your son saw?

You seem to have experienced a lot, I'm glad your house now is quieter😊

I thought your experiences in the flat were child like, with the tugging and the head slap, very much like an attention thing, so the little boy you saw could be more than just a mere sleep induced hallucination.

I have had a quick look to see if putting a penny down where something was smashed was some sort of superstition, but I can't find anything. Maybe it was just something this single person did, or maybe I am reading too much into it.

You have had interesting experiences, thanks for sharing them😊

SO spooky when your kid asks you if you saw it as well, I know...hahaha... When I took my lad camping, we were swimming in the river on dusk. In sign (he's deaf) he asked me who the swimming man is. There was no one else except us. In a darkening forest miles from anywhere. Needless to say, I got out of that river quick smart. I think maybe you have a spirit following you? Otherwise you have simply had a run of haunted dwellings that you are sensitive enough to feel the respective presences in.
