Every weekday morning, I take highway 50 to get to Rancho Cordova, CA where my business office is located. It's a 17 mile drive so I usually leave between 5:20 and 5:30 AM so I can be in the office by 6:00 AM (yes, I'm one of those that waits until the last possible moment before leaving for work).
One morning in September 2009, as I was driving between the 65th Street and Power Inn Road exits, I noticed something in the inside right lane that caught my attention; something I've never seen before.
I've been doing paranormal research since 2006, and have had a number of personal encounters throughout my life, so for me to see something unusual is not that unheard of. But I've been driving this stretch of road for 13 years, and have never seen anything like it. Why here, and why now?
What I saw was a large white figure with no definable features. It was more like a bright white blob of light. In fact, when I thought about it later I talked myself into believing it was either a white dog in the road, or a large white plastic bag caught in someone's headlights. After all I'd never seen it before, so it could possibly have a natural explanation. However, about three weeks later I saw it again.
It was October 5th, 2009, around 5:30 AM in the morning, and I was driving in the same stretch of road on highway 50 (between 65th Street and Power Inn Rd). Suddenly, in front of me and to my right, was a large bright white figure. And like before, I didn't get a good look at it, because I wasn't looking for it, nor was I truly expecting it. Since it had been weeks since I saw it last, I had pretty much put it out of my mind.
Yet sure enough there it was again. And I remember saying to myself, "Now that's two times, and in the same spot. It has to be something paranormal." And so I determined that I would bring a camcorder with me the next morning, and see if I could catch it on film.
Well, of course, nothing showed up, and I quickly abandoned "video taping while driving" for fear I, too, would be soon haunting highway 50 having driven off the road and plowed into an overpass wall.
Then on October 21st, shortly after passing the 65th street exit, I started to hear a very loud noise coming from the passenger side of my truck. It sort of sounded like the noise a vehicle door makes when it is not closed properly, only much louder. In fact, it was so loud that that I feared the door was coming off its hinges. Then as soon as I passed the Power Inn exit, the noise stopped.
"Well, that was really weird", I thought to myself. "I wonder if we didn't close the door all the way on Sunday? I'll have to check it when I get into work".
Just before walking into the office, I went over to the passenger door and checked to see if it was partially ajar. No, it was closed tight as a drum. Shrugging my shoulders I headed into work.
Later that evening as I was describing the incident to my partner, she assured me that she closed the door and locked it after exiting the truck. "I know you did", I agreed. "Because I checked it myself, and it was not ajar." After pausing a moment I continued, "You know what's really weird... If the door was indeed not closed properly, wouldn't you think I would have noticed it as soon as I drove away from the house? I mean, the noise didn't start until I'd driven over 7 miles. In fact, it didn't start until I got near the area I saw the white figure. I wonder if the two have something in common?" We both decided it might be a good idea if I took a digital recorder with me the next day, to see if I can get any EVPs; that is if something else happens.
The next morning nothing happened between the 65th and Power Inn exits. But then just as I was passing Power Inn Road, a new, very loud noise started. I can only describe it as sounding like someone was standing in the bed or my truck, kicking the cab with their foot. "What the heck?!", I exclaimed. I was beginning to think there was something seriously wrong with my truck, as the noise continued and got louder and louder until I took my exit. Then it suddenly stopped.
Five minutes later I pulled into my parking spot, threw on my emergency brake, and flew out of my truck in a panic; thinking something was broken on my truck. I then ran to the back of the bed, and checked my spare tire thinking it had come lose; no, it was fine. I walked over to the passenger door and checked it; it was shut tight and locked. Walking around the front of the truck I checked the bumper, and then the connection between the bed and the cab; snug as a bug in a rug. And last but not least, I checked my rear bumper, nothing. All was as it should be. There was nothing lose on my truck, nothing that could possibly be causing the noise I'd just heard.
"What on earth is going on?" I wondered. "I have never experienced anything like this before in my life. If this is paranormal, it's starting to scare me." After assuring myself that everything was OK with my truck, I headed into the office, a bit shaken, but determined to get to the bottom of this.
Thirty minutes later a co-worker came up to my cubicle and said to me, "Your dome light is on."
Thinking I didn't hear him correctly, as I am hard of hearing, I said, "What?"
"Your dome light is on in your truck." he explained.
"Well, this is getting very, very weird", I muttered to myself, as I walked towards the back of the building were my truck was parked. As soon as I exited the break room door, I could see quite clearly that indeed my dome light was on, just as my co-worker had claimed. "Ok. That's it. I'm doing a recording." I said to myself, and headed back into the office to get my digital recorder.
Within a couple of minutes I was sitting in the cab of my truck, digital recorder in hand, and doing a recording. I started out by giving the date and time, and explaining why I was doing the recording, and then I spoke out loud to the possible ghost. I explained that I was going to try and help them. Then I told them that I am not a psychic, and could not hear them or see them, but if they could please tell me what they want, I'd listen to the recording, and then we could figure out where we'd go from there. I paused about 1 minute, giving them plenty of time to talk, and then shut off the recorder, and headed back into the office. I then spent the next 15 minutes listening to the recording, and found 4 EVPs!
Here is what I captured:
1. I had just mentioned the dome light coming on, and a male voice said, "that was me messing..." I could only make out the first part of what he was saying, but I assume he was letting me know that he was the one that turned the dome light on.
2. After I explained that I can't hear them, the same male voice sighed and said, "Damn it!"
3. When I paused to allow him time to speak, a male voice said, "What's wrong with me?!" and then let out a very loud, frustrated scream.
4. Later in the recording I asked for their name, and the same spirit replied with either "Albert Simmons" or "Allen Simmons". (I later tried researching these names, via the internet, for any deaths that may have occurred in the general vicinity, but came up empty).
Later that day, during my break, I went back to my truck and spent some time speaking to the ghost. I explained that the best solution for them would be to go into the light. And then I asked for angelic help for the man, and suggested that he go with the angel into the light. I have not heard from him again.
In this clip I'm explaining for the recording that my truck's light came on, and I capture this EVP:
In this clip the same man responds with a loud sigh, and the word "Damnit!" when I fail to explain that my recorder may pick him up:
In this clip you hear the man say, "What's wrong with me" and then lets out a loud frustrated yell:
