My Dog Khaire's First Bark

I used to work late during the days and I would arrive home around 10 pm after a long hard day at work and would usually watch TV until 2-3 am until I fell asleep.

We had this dog called "Khaire" (translated it means browny) and he was adorable but he had one peculiarity and that was he never barked. I am the dog lover in our family and I am always the one who spends the most time with the dogs so I knew everything about Khaire. And I knew that he never barked -- not even at strangers. I doubt that he would bark even if a thief came to our house.

Having given the background information let me proceed with my story. I was watching TV as usual after a long day and the time was around 11 pm when I heard growling coming from outside the room. I was surprised to hear the growling because Khaire never even growled at anyone. After a few seconds Khaire started barking in earnest and I was overjoyed that the dog had finally learned some sense and was barking at strangers. I rushed outside to see who had the honor of being khaire's first bark victim, but when I stepped outside the house, there was no one there.

Now it starts to get really weird. At first I thought whoever Khaire was barking at had left already so I didn't think much of it. Khaire looked in my direction and wagged his tail at me. I petted him and I was about to go back inside when he started barking again! I turned around and looked in the direction where he was barking but no one was there! I thought maybe he was barking at someone outside our compound wall so I walked up to the outside gate and stepped outside the compound to have a look. Again no one was there. The road was empty as far as I could see in either direction and there was no way anyone could hide in that short amount of time. Besides I would have heard them.

I came back to the porch where Khaire was standing quiet for now. I was confused and tried to talk to him, telling him to point out who he was barking at (like he could). Khaire was fine as long as he looked in my direction, but whenever I stopped talking or if he looked away from me, he would start barking again. I followed the direction of his eyes and they were looking at a point about 7-8 feet ahead of where we were standing. I waited for a few minutes to see if he would stop barking all by his own but no he kept barking. I then decided that I would go and stand at the point where he was barking at, so I moved to the spot where he was looking at and called him to my side.

He came almost immediately and stood right beside me touching my leg. But as soon as he came up to me, he looked at a spot a few feet away and started barking again! It looked like the ghost had moved from its previous position and had moved a few feet away! Now I got a chill down my spine as I realized that something paranormal might be the cause for this barking. But that made me more determined to find the source and I again walked up to the spot where Khaire was looking at and tried calling him again.

This time he almost came up to me but remained a few feet away just out of reach. What was really chilling was the fact that he was looking at a spot right NEXT to where I was standing and was barking like crazy. I tried calling him again, but he wouldn't come any nearer to me and continued barking looking just to my side.

Up until now I might have explained away these events as just a random incident, but I cannot explain how Khaire reacted after this. I kept on trying to call him to my side and one time as he was about to come he suddenly leaped out of the way of an imaginary stick that was swung at him! If you have a dog, try swinging a stick at him. Khaire jumped out of the way just as if someone was swinging a stick at him and he got more mad after this. I was helpless. I couldn't see or hear anything but khaire was barking all this time -- apparently at something that was standing/sitting right next to me. He finally stopped after a few minutes but not because of me. I could not do anything to make him stop. He just finally stopped barking.

After that, I went inside and resumed watching TV. The event did strike me as very unusual for 2 reasons:

1. Khaire didn't bark before or after that incident

2. Khaire leaped out of the way of an imaginary stick

3. The whole thing is very consistent if we put in an invisible entity of some kind. Ie. The movement from one place to another etc.

I still don't know what khaire was barking at that day but I suspect that it was an entity of some kind. Yes I have had lots of experiences before and after that incident but that would be a different story.

Let me know how you liked the story. I really like long stories and I think that is the way stories should be and not just 10 lines saying I saw ghost, got scared, ran away and called the police so no apologies for the long story.

WoW Nepal, my grandparents lives there, ok so maybe your dog was barking at a invisible thing like a ghost or something else, animals like dogs has 6 senses so they can see things and sense things that humans could not 😉

My latest story was rejected even though it did happen to me so I can't share it with you guys. Sorry about that though it does make me wonder about the process of selecting what really happened and what didn't.

Thanks for reading guys:)

I grew up on ghost stories which would be told by elder sisters in the appropriate atmosphere. I remember even when I was little, there was a scary show that I simply had to watch even though I used to hide under the covers when the scary parts came lol.

[at] Darkness: Not exactly in my house but I once had a very interesting event occur to me while I was riding my bike, which I will be posting pretty soon.

[at] Kolten: Yes Kolten I would presume ghosts are white 😜. But I have once seen a dark shadow like thing that was translucent and moved impossibly fast. But that would be another story.

[at] MattBradley: Yup Matt. I do believe that dogs can see ghosts but my theory is that they can't see them all the time (I'm not sure)?

Sometimes when I have had paranormal experiences, my dog wouldn't show any abnormal behavior at all. He would be acting normally but I would be under attack from some kind of thing. So I'm not sure if they can see entities all the time?

This happened to me with my Dalmatian; except under different circumstances. He was a puppy and sat at the end of my bed growling at the door; then barking. You're not alone! 😆

I think he did see something. Dogs see black and white and can see in the dark and ghosts are usually white 😁

Hi garbagegigo what an interesting story I believe there was something paranormal going on with your dog, as it seem to far out of character for something like that to just randomly happen. Have you had any other unexplained occurences in your home?
I very much agree with your last statement I love reading the long stories also.

Thank you for sharing.

LOL!...I like long stories, too... This is really interesting... My dogs do nothing BUT bark... And chew stuff to pieces... So I would feel the same way you did if my dogs fell silent... He obviously felt threatened by something... Do you remember what time it was?...Maybe you could try to see if it happens again... Good story...
