Morticia: You're right... I had to go back and look that comment up for the date... I commented on your story on 3/24, so I had just started receiving that scent a few days before that...Here's something I find interesting: The date of her abduction was 3/31/1995, I had posted the experience on 4/4/11; and as mentioned in a previous comment, her body had been found nearly a week after the abduction...

Thanks for reading and commenting ❀

Wow granny, I remember discussing the water heater and smell incident, but the little girl and blackberry blossoms is new to me. That was amazing! I think she came to you because you are a very kind, and loving person. She probably sensed that and ran to you for comfort. It is very sad what happened to her, but I am glad she had you. 😊 ❀ I am so glad you posted this granny, and you know it's going right in my fav's. 😁

InnerMomentas: Yeah, I've researched this phenomenon, also... One thing I can say about me is that I'm really not overly emotional, or sentimental... In fact, on those dates where my Dad was mentioned, it was the scent that reminded of their significance...

I also ran straight for google after the experience with Roxanne, and researched dream states... I found that it's nearly impossible to fall into the dream state mere minutes after falling "asleep"...It takes between an hour to an hour and a half for the brain to reach the dream state...

As far as my hubby and son: My husband had been out most of the day running errands for an elderly friend... The odor began before he left or had even gone outside...That's why I checked with him first, thinking he'd "used" the other bathroom πŸ˜†...He took my son home after the odor had dissapated... If you've ever tried to "plant" something in a hot water heater, you'd find that unless it's old and rusted, there's no getting into one...

Thank you for your comment, and I appreciate the respectful manner in which you expressed your skepticism 😊

Hi there Granny my dear mate thank you for sharing another story and wow how interesting it is on the one hand and how tragic it was for the child to go through such unimaginable terror on the other, poor little girl just horrible and unfair how cruel life can be sometimes... I think what may have happened here during your experience was kind of like the meshing between two planes at the one time, perhaps you were even out of your body and didn't realize it during the meshing and actual experience... In the spiritual realm reality and perception can be contrived in ways that just seem too un rational to relate to in our black and white straight up and down world... Basically you were seeing grey and feeling groggy was how you put yourself into this state of consciousness...I'm not sure if the shadow puppies have any significant meaning to the actual reality of the experience but rather your perception of it... But no doubt about the reality... This child came through to you for a reason and I'm sure you have had thoughts about that... Interesting gift you also have with your nose there mate... I bet hubby blames your ghosties for the ones that smell like bake beans and rotton eggs... πŸ˜† I know I would...lol

granny I remember you mentioning about the blossoms and smelling your husband, armpits etc. Nice to see it here in one of your accounts of what youve experienced 😊

Omg though that poor girl! So glad you were there to comfort her. Cant imagine what it was she went through and as someone else said hopefully shes found peace now.

As you may remember I know all about smelling things that arent there! πŸ˜† I still get that from time to time though have never smelled anything foul (thankfully!)

Fortunally it wasn't our floor, we just went up for the view, but it was very hard to sleep that night thinking if someone had ever died in our room.

Me and my mom were very close, so I hold on to the hope she sticks around to make sure I'm okay.

I also wanted to tell you, today I was talking to a friend. She's never been a believer in the paranormal, but she confessed she's been having troubling experences. She mentioned how she had been smelling this heavy alochol smell durning her encounters. Neither her nor her boyfriend drink. I sent her a link to your story, and she called me thanking me for the peace of mind. She also wanted me to thank you for her. She was so happy others experenced the same. 😁

I found it intresting the day after I read this she came to me.

Hiya Granny! I've had times where I actually smelled things that were not around. I have smelled things like vanilla, and cinnamin. I have read that our sense of smell is most connected to memory. And so it's possible that our current actions, behavior, exe... Are intruding upon past memories stored up in the subconscience; thereby producing distict smells.

My mom once in a while pickes up the scent of old spice. We don't have any old spice in the house, but my Great Grandfather wore old spice alot. However, my mom is a very expressive and emotional person. My dad and I have not smelled it. And so I think it's mind over matter as far as my mom is concerned.

Anyways these experiences we have often integrate themselves into our dream patterns. How and why people dream is still a mystery. There are some good theories out there though. I personally would record these experiences. Keep a journal. Maybe you can participate in some ongoing research. I don't mean that in bad way though. Your experience could unlock this mystery.

Do you know where the father and son may have gone? It's possible that they could have planted something in that hot water heater. It would be a reasonable explanation as to why the dog was not alerted. From what I have heard, most dogs can sense and see spirits and often respond to them.

I enjoy trying to make sense of these things because it helps me to be a better informed individual. Thanks for sharing. 😁

Indigo, believer, and molly: Thank you all for reading and commenting!

Indigo: I'm looking forward to reading about your experiences...It'll be nice to read something mature...It's been a loooong summer πŸ˜†

Believer: What a sweet way for your Mom to let you know she's there... When Nysa asked that question, I had to go to google LOL... It does seem like it could be possible, but I have a really hard time thinking it was anything evil, as some would want me to, simply because I didn't have the "fear factor"...That must have been a real eerie feeling, just knowing that someone's body was found... I certainly hope they refunded your money, or at least set you up in another room!

Molly: It is a great gift, and most of the time pleasurable... Puzzling at times, specially when it's an unfamiliar scent...

Thanks again! ❀

Granny, my first experience with the ghost of a child was very olfactory oriented as well. I may end up posting that story soon.

Nysa,

I had to read that a couple times to fully comprehend the meaning! 😳

But alas, I am glad to hear that.

I hate to go off topic, but your discussion of pit bulls caught my attention. Defending dog breeds that get blamed for the actions that people abused some members of that breed into doing is one of my daughter's pet causes. Sorry for the cheesy pun. Javelina your dogs are adorable.

A thousand pardons, I will try to resist the urge to go off topic-ish again.

First off I love the story, I've had a few experences with those familiar type scents. When I'm really depressed I notice I smell my moms prefume, she rarley wore it, but I remember it so well.

I wanted to mention the gross smell. A few years back I was on vacation with my best friend, her ex, and his cousin. We decided to go to the top floor of the hotel. Up there were the two mega suits and a huge picture window that over looks LA. Anyway the second we got off the elvator this smell hit us in the face. It was exactly as you discribed in your comment. We went down and reported it, turrns out someone had passed away in one of the suites. I will never forget that smell. I have a very strong stomach and it takes a lot to gag me. This was that bad.

Jav,

Those are seriously the most adorable dogs EVER! I love how they're resting their cute little heads. I am really sad that pitbulls have gotten a bad rap. Most of the attacks are the dogs that have been neglected or abused. Through lots of research, I have learned a lot about pit bulls and there are SO many myths about them. I have been around plenty pits, male and female, and they have ALL been so loving and well-behaved. I watched my friend's pits for 2 months every day, and they were little love bugs. Anyway, sorry this is so long... But your doggies are so lovely, thanks for sending me to that picture. ❀

Jav- Oh my gosh, when my cat farts... It is like death in a gas cloud! But yeah, I was babysitting a friend's pitbulls and I smelt a couple stink bombs!

Okay I feel way bad for spamming granny's story with poop and farts!

Jave: You know, it was the conversation we had on another story recently that inspired me to finally submit this LOL... And I'm still searching for blackberry incense, essential oil, candles, soap, just about anything, but no such luck yet... And yep, I know exactly what you're talking about πŸ˜‰...

DARKNESS: This is the very first time I've had the (dis) pleasure of smelling this particular odor...Well, except after my hubby's had burritos for lunch πŸ˜†...The best I can describe it is: a mixture of feces, garbage, rotten meat, sour milk, sulfur, rotten eggs and I don't know what else, all rolled into one... Totally gross... And like I said, at it's peak, I was really gagging, and actually had to leave the room LOL...

Oh, and girls don't fart, we "floof" πŸ˜†

I hate those stupid chain messages I get that talk about a young girl who was raped and murdered that will come back to kill you if you don't send it to x number of people. I think they are disrespectful and also distasteful because there are actually a few poor souls that passed in that violent and terrible fashion. To make a game out of that kind of thing is a horrible thing to do. This is a great story zzsgranny, and I hope that Roxanne finds peace.

Granny, love this post, it rings bells relating to myself aswell, that is smelling my granmothers and grandfathers scent on specific times. That is a great gift I'm sure you definitely understand the feeling that comes once you have recognised who's presence is with you, an awesome feeling! 😊

That is horrible what happened that poor girl I am glad you were there to be open enough to comfort her when she needs it. I do hope she finds her way and peace aswell.

The foul smells well yeh I'm thinking along the same lines as aswell, does it happen very often? And I'm sure you would pickup on the activity if something like that was lingering around. Awesome stuff granny thanks for sharing another one with us! 😁 ❀

P.S.PrettyInPain: Sorry I forgot that all girls farts smell like roses don't they! LMAO haha

Granny,
It's about time you put this up! I've been waiting for months! And I still feel the same way now about it as I did back when it first happened. Which, I believe, is that she had come to you because of who you are and what you have.
Sorry everyone, but I won't say further. Granny knows what I'm talking about, that's all that matters.

Thanks so much you guys! ❀

Miracles: I'm glad you shared this info with Dalton, because he may be missing some of his experiences by not paying attention to strange scents...He's an amaziing kid, and he may surprise you one day by figuring out he can smell them, too!πŸ˜†...And yeah:D my Dad knows how much I miss him...

Nighthingale: That's pretty interesting... Did your Mom experience anything else asscociated with the smell?...And I hope she finds peace, too... Her killer is now on death row, still going through the appeals process...

Louisem: Thank you!...I am looking into ways to help her, but she only comes around when she wants to LOL... I think we all have a lot of abilities that we tend to ignore or discount... Some people just don't get it:) ...

PIP: Thanks for the Favorite!...My Dad was awesome... When I was little, every time he shaved, it was a thing for me to get to smell him... This ritual carried on well into my adulthood😊...So the scent of Old Spice is pretty unmistakable for me LOL...Roxanne's whole life was sad and if I thoughtI could relate it without imposing on her privacy, I would explain more detail... I just want to note that I never knew who she was until I did my research the day after meeting her... I don't know why she picked me, but sometimes things aren't meant for us to know...

Lynrinth: That's pretty cool, and I do think that the connection we have with our loved ones comes through in many ways... Thank you for reading!

Nysa: Last, but not least!...Actually, she was found about a week later... So yes, you could be on to something there!...That could be why I felt no fear, or even the slightest misgiving... She could've just been trying to tell me about the pilot light, or was interested in what I was doing... I have heard that that particular odor is indescribable, and I must say, I've never in my life encountered such a smell... About your questions, I believe they are visitation smells... Every time I've had experiences, there has been some sort of scent preceeding or during...

Thank you all for reading and commenting...I'm fascinated by this subject, and I hope this account brings about some good discussion and other's experiences...

When I was dating in the mid-ninties, I would smell my boyfriend, a mixture of cigerette smoke and cologne, and knew he was thinking of me! Since then it happens to me every now and then. Interesting story.

*Favorite*

Wow, this was an amazing recollection and I am so glad you submitted it. I love how you were able to smell your dad's Old Spice on those specific days. It makes me happy to hear about loved ones visiting us, and especially with such impervious validation! ❀

One thing I always think of when I read about this ability is how scents are one of the most successful ways for us to recollect past events. Maybe that's why some of us are willing to spend so much on perfume or why we prefer certain scents to others. ~Shrugs~ Just a thought.

The part about Roxanne and the shadow dogs was really emotional for me. You did a great job of explaining the events that took place. I feel really sad for Roxanne.

I love how you weren't bothered by the repulsive smell- after all, you're married with kids! Haha that part made me smile. I don't know what smells worse- baby poop or man farts! LOL πŸ˜† No demon/evil spirit would have a snowflake's chance in hell scaring you, my dear!

Thank you for sharing. I really enjoyed reading about your experiences.

That is not an ability you hear about often. I mean you hear about people smelling something in association with a particular haunting, but less often about someone who regularly encounters phantom scents. Do you believe these are, for the most part, memory smells, like a residual haunting, or visitation smells? I would have expected a residual / psychic cause but smelling them on specific dates and away from areas associated with the events or people sounds more like visitations. I hate to be gory about a sad event, but did the little girl's body sit in that spot for a while before being found? Long enough to have started to smell?

hey there granny... I think your story was great... That poor little girl, my heart goes out to her... As for that really bad smell, it could be due to an evil soul or entity trying to collect the soul of this child... You might want to try looking into helping this child move on... Although she seems to feel quite safe with you. This story brought a memory back for me, my mother told me when I was little she used to catch me sniffing the air and the furniture looking for a certain scent. When she would ask me what it smells like I would tell her it smells like flowers, and coconut... When I got older she was able to explain to me that her mother would make her own perfume out of honey suckle and coconuts... I know I could never have known this as she died long before I was even born... And to this day I always have honey suckle growing in my garden. And iv used coconut shampoo on my hair since I can remember... It makes me think that maybe we all have a bit of that kind of sensitivity in us, it just happens when we least expect it. Anyway great story and love and light to you and your family. ❀

Thank you for another great story zzgranny, they're always so interesting to read! And you're always so funny. That used to happen to my mom all the time, I remember her telling me how she would wake up in the middle of the night to a strong smell of colongue, which was weird due to the fact that there was no men on our house at the time. Its facinating to think how certain smells can linger as a residue of a spirit. The part of the little girl really saddens me, poor baby, I don't know how people can do such a thing, its barbaric. I hope she finds her peace. Anyways thanks again for sharing, please continue to do so.

Blessings! ❀

granny - I shall bypass the temptation to wag my finger at you only because you have that one saving factor. It's all recorded somewhere else LOL.

Got to thank you for submitting this story because it gave me the opportunity to share it with Dalton. He happened to be passing the computer as I was reading it and he saw the title. I'd never told him that this was one of my gifts. It just never came up because he doesn't share it. As I was explaining it to him, you know the "it's just like being able to see and hear ghosts, I can also smell them when they're around." He said, "oh it's another gift." I laughed.

The little girl...yeah, you know how I am about that, so I won't touch on that one, okay? But your dad... Oh my, Ginny, I love that he shows you in ways that prove without a doubt he's there ❀. Old Spice, something about Old Spice 😊.

As for the ick and yuck odor. Jerrica and I've experienced that one a couple of times. I've even had other people come into our homes (it's happened in two different homes) and no one has smelled it but us). I even removed the trap, ran bleach down the kitchen sink and all that. Looked under the house for a dead animal. Nothing. But only Jerrica and I could smell it. So I completely understand what you're talking about.

Glad you submitted another one πŸ˜‰
