I'd like to take a moment to offer a word of thanks to the YGS community at large. Whether it be a heated debate or a night of silliness, this site allows us the opportunity to share our theories and opinions in an open forum, in real time. It is a place to learn and share our personal experiences dealing with the paranormal among people who understand how difficult it is to talk about this subject openly. We can ask questions we wouldn't feel comfortable asking anywhere else. Form theories and allow others the freedom to expand those theories. Always changing and ever exiting. You folks have made this the most interesting and entertaining site, and I am honored to be a participant.

Thank you for keeping it real Martin!

You may not hear from me for a while, I have been waiting for an operation or two to help me regain some of my eyesight. I'll find out this week when those will be. I just loved the validation for both yourself, the lady in question and the family. To have that after all these years just makes for a wonderfully beautiful story. To know you waited so long makes me think it doesn't matter when it happens just make sure it happens!

Gee Jav! Are we 'shadowing' each other or what? Just caught your comment. There is surely a big time gap in our days? It is 9:20 pm here, and am ready to go to bed as I have an early morning tomorrow. I am going to spend a week with my youngest daughter (she is living with lung cancer) & 7 year old grand-daughter.
Yes, people may think it is just another hitch-hiker ghost story, but they are in for a big surprise. It is one of the best accounts that I have come across!
I hope I can access you from Angel's computer. That is my daughter's name (actually Angelique, but I have called her Angel, from before she was born!) Did I have a premonition...?
Hope to write a story about her, in her younger days when I get back.

Fergie,
I believe this one gets passed up because of the title. People must think it's another ghost hitch hiker in the car story. But thank you for taking the time to find out the real story.
For the longest time I too, felt it must have been a time-slip I had fallen into. But something didn't seem right about that idea. It just "felt" different for some reason. And to this day, it is still the weirdest thing that I have ever experienced.

Javelina, it was about 1 p.m., so I am thinking everyone was either gone or inside. The village is located within driving distance of Toulouse, so I am thinking those who lived there either worked in the vineyards or in Toulouse or the "sprawl" area south of Cahors.

I just asked my husband what he remembered, and he reminded me of the dog, which we did not see, but heard in the distance after we got out of the car. The dog is not part of my memory of being deep into the village, so it might have stopped barking at some point. Or...

Argette,
You are probably right, and I have been known to overthink things now and then, it just feels...unfinished?
The village itself must be the key. It managed to draw you there and hold your interest long after, so maybe it does have a story to tell.
When you had mentioned previously how the whole area was quiet, no sounds of birds or anything? It reminded me of how someone had described New Orleans two years after Hurricane Katrina went through, and the devastaion that ensued. They said something similar, "there aren't any birds, you can't hear any birds, anywhere."

Javelina, my husband is a skeptic. Something very bizarre could happen to him, and he would not see it or he would immediately find some rational explanation for it. And then he would dismiss it. He's an engineer, so maybe that's why.

I would ponder it a while, and if I could not find an explanation, dismiss it as one of those things I just could not wrap my mind around. I sometimes think there incidents that are not necessarily paranormal, but just unexplainable.

What was really spooky was my change in mood after the village experience. The village felt solemn, religious somehow. I have heard of villages in France where all residents were slaughtered by Nazis, but this was not one of them. Something did happen there, of that I am certain!

Argette,
He saw the old woman? It almost sounds as if he were experiencing the incident sort of vicariously through you. Does that make any sense? Or that he was merely a half interested observer to what you were experiencing.
I don't know what it is, but something keeps bringing me back to see if I've missed something I should have noticed.
I do know it is spooky as hell though

Merry Christmas,

You are most perspective, Javelina. My husband stayed at the car, parked near a statue of the Virgin Mary while I walked into the village. I had been frustrated with him, and wanted a few minutes alone. He did not report experiencing anything different, but I know he saw the old woman. At first I felt (1) I had gone back in time and then (2) something tragic had happened in the village. I had not yet read about time slips (something I literally stumbled upon about 18 months after our visit to France. The only other thing I can recall is that it was noonish in Montcuq and everything was closed. We felt very much alone and that gave Montcuq a sort of desolate feeling, too.

Back to the village: The farther I ventured inside, the weirder it felt. So I hurried back to the car, we got inside and sort of magically found our way back to the main road that took us back to Cahors. I felt at peace after that and no longer frustrated with my husband or discontent with my world. (I have to say here that I love France so much, when I am there, I am baffled as to why my ancestors left!).

The whole trip to Montcuq was so disorienting that it took me three years to find the little village on Google maps.

[at] Argette,
I had come back to reread your account of what occurred that day with your husband and yourself. And something struck me. I'm not sure if you were trying to communicate this to me and I was to dense to pick it up at the time, or if it is something neither of us were aware of.
ANYWAY...you stated that "There was road work taking place nearby and we were rerouted down an unfamiliar road on the way out of town. Nothing looked familiar to us. We had not passed anything along this road on the way to Montcuq. We pulled over into a tiny village. I asked my husband if I could take some pictures as it was such a quiet little village. He studied the map in the car while I ventured into the village"
Now, what caught my attention was the "we" aspect of this experiencw. I am wondering if it wasn't you alone having this experience. Perhaps your husband had it as well. He seemed to be more concerned about not knowing where he was and got the map out to study it as you went to take photos. I am probably looking at something that isn't there, but I wanted to get your opinion on that. The weird thing here is that I have come back to reread this several times simply because I feel I either missed something or didn't understand it correctly. Is there anything else that you recall from that day that felt or seemed "odd"?

Thank you, Jav πŸ˜•

Javelina, I think some people are receptors for emotions that linger, an idea I am sure has been expressed here before. It's beyond being uber sensitive somehow, it's more akin to genetic memory, I think. I seem to experience it mostly in France.

That does not address what you experienced, but it's not unlike it. Perhaps some people have a sort of "blotter" that absorbs certain feelings or spirits or emotions.

Somehow the spirit that hitched a ride with you sensed that you could absorb it.

A high compliment, I would say.

Argette,
You know, ever since I posted this I've been searching for where it fits, or to categorize it. I don't like the word, or the conotation of the word, 'possession'. And I refuse to let it fall into that darkness. However, from Aussie;s comments to yours and generalchaos' comments I am begtnning to wonder if it isn't a form of empathy at one end and something else I have yet to find a better word for at the other?
If it weren't for me taking on a different appearance I would still be lost in the 'time slip' theory. Guess I am still not finished with this, huh?

aya22,
The thing about the deja vu is that it had kept up the entire school day. I knew what was coming around every corner. I don't know if the old speaker systems are still in use in some of the older schools, but they had this crackle to them when they came on and sometimes they would have that high pitched sqeal from feedback that would hurt your ears. Well, I already had my hands over my ears before the crackle was heard. And what the teacher was going to say before they said it. It was more of actually kinowing it beforehand. I've had many instances of deja vu through the years that were more like a feeling of "I knew that would happen" or "I knew you were going to say that" coming on after the person said it or the action had occurred. This was different. At first, I would tell the person sitting next to me what was coming, and I was right every time. And like I said in my story, after a while I just stopped telling people. I stopped talking and just kept watching. I have never felt it that strongly before, or since then. That's why I felt the two incidents had to be connected, besides just having them occur on the same day. I hope that makes sense, I can't think of any other way to explain it.
Thank you for reading my experience and understanding. It means so much.

Jav 😊

Generalchaos, your post sent chills up and down my spine.

Three years ago we were walking down Rue Buffon along the side of the Jardin des Plantes in Paris. I felt this heaviness, this sadness, this abject grief. We came upon a school with a plaque on it and I read it and then I knew: Many children from that school had been reported to the camps.

Ne les oublions jamais.

You know, it has been such a relief for me to hear others tell me they too have have experienced something similar to this. I was afraid I would be laughed out of town. Especially because of the deja vu. When you talk about Salem, and the creepy deja vu? Oh yeah, I knew just what you meant. That has happened to me as well.
Since posting this experience, I haven't had one second thought about the wisdom of my decision. Especially when I hear there are more out there, and they too had kept it to themselves.
I hope you do write yours up, and that with each one of these, others will tell theirs as well.
Thanks so much for the encouragement, I am looking forward to reading about your other experience with this.

Jav -
Third experience was in a park I was VERY familiar with, and my "friend" (a guy who was trying to impress me) actually pointed it out. While that did impress me, he himself did not.:p

The first and second experiences, in Salem and somewhere in Germany (I'd have to go through my travel journals to remember exactly where) - I'd never been to before. At least, not in this life, for whatever that's worth.
The entire few hours I spent in Salem were filled with deja vu in a very creepy and unsettling way... I think I will write it up soon. I am not sure I would visit there again... I knew where a lot of the very old things in town were.
The episode in Germany was - ok. Were. There were two. And both were deeply unsettling, beyond Salem, beyond most of my experiences. One I will share - I was sleeping on a train. I did not know the route we were taking, and had never been to Germany before. We were simply going from one country to another, through Germany. My travel buddy was awake. As we rode, I had horrible, vivid nightmare. The audio part was like thousands of people were screaming... My friend told me I'd started "whimpering" in my sleep, and he'd kicked my foot to wake me up. I felt like I could still almost hear the screaming, and told him. He got a bit wide eyed. I asked where we were (hoping we'd get off the train soon). He said we had just passed Dachau. (a site of a German concentraion camp in WWII)

Jave,
The first thing that comes to my mind is WOW! I really love this story and you wrote it so well. I can see why it took you so long to share it, but I'm very glad you did as it is so very incredibly sweet and endearing. I was a bit confused at first as to what was happening to you, what you were experiencing, why scenery itself was changing... But the phone call and the ending pieced it all together so well and indeed explains it. I really admire your guts in so many ways (haha).
I guess I've experienced slightly similar things, but not even close to as remarkable as yours! Don't even know if any of it can be labeled 'paranormal' but here goes... Just that feeling of deja vu, like you described. That feeling of knowing where I'm at and who I'm with, but it all feeling so unfamiliar and like something is wrong/out of place. Like you're supposed to be noticing something, but just can't get it... Bah. Blame it on my blonde roots!
Read through the comments and there are definitely some theories that I absolutely love... I'm glad you have such a great friend who can kick you in the butt once in while, what else are good friends for?
Now going straight for the favorites button... Thank you for sharing this! ❀

generalchaos,
This is absolutely fascinating to me. Ever since I got the experience out of my system, so to speak, it has made me hopeful that others would come forward with theirs as well.
In the third experience you mentioned, did your friend experience this anomaly as well?
In the other two, were the areas at least somewhat familiar to you before the incidents occurred?
And lastly, in any of these experiences, did you at any time experience the deja vu effect?

Sorry, I am still trying to understand this better and I could go on and on with the questions. However, you can tell me to wait if you are planning to write about it. I completely understand your reluctance to discuss what you experienced. It took me 39 years to build up the courage it took to tell anyone. And now, since reading what you wrote here about the night the stars were "not right", makes me wonder if I have had more than one experience myself.

Thank you,
Jav ❀

I had an experience sort of along the same lines as this - twice, actually.
Once in Salem, Massachusetts. Weird, but probably not enough to write a whole story about.
Other time in Germany. Not quite ready to talk about that one.

...and then this other time, in a park I was familiar with, late on a clear night, wandering with a friend - and we looked up and the very stars had changed. I couldn't find even the Big Dipper...

Javelina,

I've not been on too much the last couple weeks either. Not coping too well lately with stuff and I tend to withdraw. Peeked in and saw Moongrim's comment. Decided to peek at his profile and it kind of shook me "awake" from my personal stuff.

Didn't know about your new story. How spooky! Amazing how you figured out what it was all about after all these years.

Jav,
Just getting caught up after getting back from vacation. I enjoyed your story very much.

The physical manifestation in the form of your personal transformation in appearance is intriguing and truly amazing. Having ourselves used by an unknown, unseen force is unnerving at the least; but being deemed worthy, at least in this instance, seems to be more of an honor.

Without getting too mushy, those of us that appreciate you for being you, know exactly what I mean. We know you because you don't hold back or hide in the shadows. As a parent, their is nothing more precious to me than the health and safety of my children. Betty knew that if her sister trusted you with her kids, she knew you would be up to the task.

Betty would not have used you as her liason if she did not sense the trust her sister had for you. Although her approach was a bit half-hazard; you gave her the moments she desired, and the time these sisters needed. Understanding in times of tragedy is sometimes difficult, and closure is a fairy tale. In times surrounding sorrow, the best we can hope for is some shred of comfort... Whether you were a willing participant, or not; you gave this to these women, when likely no one else could have.

Your friend,
Lou

Tempe,
That you can see it as such, and at the time it occurs, is a big deal in my book. The entire concept was foreign to me. Which, in turn, made the experience more frightening for the confusion it caused. For the few years after it happened I was in fear of it happening again. In my mind, if it did, that would have the result of me actually believing I was becoming mentally unbalanced.
I remember vividly the next episode of deja vu I had after that day. I was so afraid of what would happen next. But I was fine, and it never has occurred quite that same way again.
But you can bet I will be paying much closer attention to my appearance and if it changes again,

Jave,

I have many times. There has been times where someone will be talking to me and they tell me I just change. I stop responding or when I do respond I am just not myself! Sometimes it was so strong that I didn't remember an important conversation between my sister and I or other family and friends... I don't know what to call it. Sometimes it is dark but other times I feel like I am just being used to get from point a to point b. If there was one thing I could change about my gift, that would be it.

I'm biting my tongue here! No, there was really no reason to be annoyed. I think jet lag does that to me. It's hard sometimes to be with someone constantly. We both work, so we are seldom together constantly for more than a weekend. I just felt at peace, more satisfied after our little visit.

Totally agree, Javelina. What I forgot to add is that I was very annoyed with my husband for no good reason until we stopped at the village. After that I was at peace for the rest of the day. I felt cleansed, somehow, in a very spiritual sense.

I do know what you mean. There are times I can feel when there is someone there, it's a completely separate feeling. It's like I "know" something about the spirit as well. It's hard to explain. But it is nothing like what you felt that day. Which makes what happened out there more significant. Don't you think?

Javelina, it was just unreal. It just did not feel right. I have not experienced that before or since. I did attend a party one at a house the owners say is haunted. I was able to pinpoint one of the "spots" that gets the most activity but the two feelings were very different.

teme,
Reading back to what I just wrote, I don't want you to think that I was speaking specifically to you about the idea of possession. It had occurred to me that some people might look at it that way, and I wanted to make that point. It wasn't directed at you. And I wasn't trying to suggest you had any possession type experience either.
Just wanted to make that clear so you don't get wrong impression. All of this can be so confusing.

Tempe,
It scared me too. The confusion over how to interpret it was too much for me, so I tried to leave it behind, not think about it. But, as we all know, that's impossible.
That word says a lot about my experience, "discombobulation" is a good way to put it.
But, just so we're clear on this, I don't look on this as a "possession" type of situation. That has never even been a consideration. As the title states, I believe she was merely hitching a ride. She had no intention of hanging around afterward.
So you have had this happen to you?

Argette,
What hit me about your experience below is where you state " There was no noise at all, nothing." Now THAT I can relate to. It brings the experience one tick up on the spook-o-meter if you ask me. And everyone here knows what that gut feeling is. When your natural instincts kick into overdrive and you just know you have to get the hell away from whatever is causing it. Very cool. And because of the silence, I would be asking a lot of questions too. That and the woman who paid you no mind would have me thinking time slip also. Very confusing, and so intriguing.
Thanks for sharing that here, it has given me much to think about.

This story scared me... I didn't know that this could happen to anyone else... When I asked my mother about it years ago she asked me "Why, does that happen to you?" I got scared, I lied and said no. It is single handedly the worst feeling in the world to have a spirit inside of you, you were kind of lucky in a way that it wasn't a bad one... This discombobulation would have been far worse... Thank you so much for putting this story up and reminding me to go read it. I really honestly needed to see this because for as much of the paranormal as I encounter I still thought when a spirit entered me I was just going crazy. Now, I don't feel so bad about posting stories like this. This sounds weird I know, but you are kind of a role model to me that my mother couldn't be when it came to the paranormal. Your comments always bring piece of mind and your stories never fail to give a lesson learned.

Javelina, I don't know if there's enough to tell for a story.

My husband and I travel to France every couple of years. My family is from the western regions and I have noticed that when we are there or passing through that part of France, I see people who look like relatives. It's intriguing.

Three years ago we were in the Midi Pyrenees region and visited the village of Montcuq. There was road work taking place nearby and we were rerouted down an unfamiliar road on the way out of town. Nothing looked familiar to us. We had not passed anything along this road on the way to Montcuq. We pulled over into a tiny village. I asked my husband if I could take some pictures as it was such a quiet little village. He studied the map in the car while I ventured into the village. It was about 1:30 p.m. And still. The sun suddenly went out of the sky and the whole place began to have a gray and dim overcast. There was no noise at all, nothing.

I had the feeling something had happened here. I also had the feeling I was in another time. An old woman emerged from one of the houses, dressed in a manner you might have seen the the 1940s: Longish straight skirt, gray cardigan, slippers. She walked past me as thought she did not see me, which is not that unusual in France. But I felt uneasy. The walk back to the car was long. I found my husband, and he'd figured out where we needed to be, so we took off.

I noticed that the sky was blue again and the day was no longer overcast.

It was only a year or so ago that I was introduced to time slips. Some of the conditions of time slips seem to fit my experience.

And that was all. But I've never had the sensations I had in that little village.

Argette,
For years I tossed that idea around in my head. But I didn't feel it was right. I wanted to be able to find an origin for it, a "why" I guess you might say. And time slip would have fit if you ignored everything else. The change in my appearance didn't even become a factor in my search for what had occurred until I told someone else about it. And even then it was merely an aside, a part of the scenery. Had the same thing not have repeated itself the night my sister passed on, and had I not written the story about that night...I'm sure you see how that trails on and on.
As I was saying, the idea of a time slip was almost like a fight with myself, it was almost too easy to give into and I purposely started avoiding any information about the subject. And until recently, I had no real reason to pass on it but that it just did not fit for me.
Now I'm going to have to check into this Bold Street you mentioned.
I assume you will be writing your experience up and submitting it, right? I would love to hear about what happened to you there, however, I don't want to ruin a great experience before you get that chance.
That is what we live for on this site, and now that the cat is out of the bag... πŸ˜‰

That parallel universe thing has fascinated me before I knew it had a name, Javelina. Then I read "Time and Again," by Jack Finney when I was a teenage - my parents read it at the same time - and we talked about it. They were very open to such things.

I did not know what a time slip was until I ventured into a small village in France and experienced something I did not understand. I stumbled upon the stories about Bold Street in Liverpool, England, just a few months ago.

Now I know it has a name. There certainly is an element of it in your experience!

Argette,
There is not a single thing you wrote here, that I can disagree with. Adding to that, even though we are going through some rough times, aren't we always?
Each generation has it's boogeymen, I suppose. But there seems to always be a doomsday prophecy hiding just around the bend. To those who buy into them I say..."Hey! You just got here, what's the rush?"
And the whole concept of parallel universes is absolutely fascinating. It reminds me of when we were kids looking in the mirror at our reflection, and wondering if that image of ourselves was someone actually living on the other side of the glass. Now we find out that we may not have been so far off in our thinking.
That is just too cool for words!

Not off the deep end, Javelina, not at all. There is so much we have yet to learn, so many more dots to connect. That's why I put no stock in the 2012 doomsday theory. The journey for us is not over. We have too much work to do, too many challenges to surmount. I think we are at a particularly trying time, and we must find a way out of it. Somehow, the questions asked here are part of that journey towards the light, if you want to call it that.

So much yet to explore...

By the way, I want to compliment the owners of this site. I've never run across a Web site so well designed and implement and with so many thoughtful features. I've been thinking about this for a while now, and I wanted to say it, finally. I hope you don't mind that I said it here.

I like the idea of the spheres being separated to this one. It brings to mind the theory of parallel universes. That the smartest physicists are the ones bringing forth these as real possibilities is truly fascinating. Talk about the equations that go into the infinite. These are serious, steady handed people. And the theories are so awe inspiring. They've been doing the math, and are willing to discuss it openly. That is what makes it real for me, the science is so intricate and the equations so precise. They check each others work constantly.
Every Sunday on the Disc. Science channel, they focus on the universe and the science of physics. It has become my favorite day for sitting in front of the tube.
So I guess I'm wondering if the two intersect somehow?
Or did I already go off the deep end?
