JPing has sent me a drawing of the dark figure apparition, I'm publishing it in his story, for those who might be interested.

Dear JPing,

I understand what you are saying here, doing and from your point of view, why you are doing it. You still have many years of living to do (I am on the other side of the age spectrum), so don't worry there will be other experiences, and again with time comes wisdom (hopefully) and the self doubt will lessen. It is up to you how many times you will decide to prove something to yourself. People can spend a lifetime proving things to themselves and others and miss the next experience and the next. All I can say is to keep things in balance and know where the middle is.--Abby

I don't doubt what I saw. I'm just trying to keep an open mind as you suggested and am perfectly willing to accept the possibility that I may be wrong.

If someone has any theories about what the thing I saw really was eg. My shadow, then I am more than happy to test them, as I have just done.

To not do so or at the very least consider alternative theories would be closed-minded. Afterall, the supernatural is defined by being un-scientifically explained. It is therefore important that people try to explain them before merely classing them as supernatural.

The more alternative theories fail, the more confident I become that what I saw really was a ghost. I think your missinterpreting my attempt at disproving my ghost story. Instead, look at it was confirming my ghost story, as that is what I have so far achieved.

I think it is important to investigate this event now while I still remember it. The longer I wait, the more likely I am to forget certain important details. There may not and likely will not be another such experience. Most people go through life without once seeing a ghost, alien etc. I consider myself extremely lucky to have done so on two occassions (the second is a ufo sighting which doesn't belong on this site).

"I don't know what it is I saw that night and I honestly have no interest in finding out"

I take that back.

Dear JPing,

Really dear one, you do not have to stand on your head to recreate this past experience you had. Just be open and ready to investigate the next experience that comes your way. With every experience you gain more wisdom (hopefully) and less self doubt.--Abby

Ok I've tried it.

Finding a couple of dark rooms with a doorway between them was easy enough, but unfortunetly I don't have access to a fireplace (infact I'm yet to meet anyone in Brisbane that has one) so I had to make do with a torch (aka. Flashlight).

I managed to produce a spooky shadow but it was very obvious that it was just that - my shadow.

The outline was clearly human and clearly my own, and was clearly at the back of the room, not directly infront of me. All objects in the room were still visible unlike what I described in my story.

Interestingly I discovered something that hadn't occured to me before. The light behind me, which was placed low to the ground so as to represent the angle of the fireplace, produced a very tall and very wide shadow. The thing I described in my story was much closer to my size.

Without a fireplace I can't be positive as flame produces a different sort of light, but I did my best.

If someone does have a fireplace then please feel free to give it a shot, I'd be very interested to hear what you find.

I couldn't be exact but the fireplace would have been between 1-1.5 metres wide and would have been between 5-8 metres behind me(sorry, I'm not sure what the conversion rate is). The fire was neither roaring nor close to going out.
I would have been at the most just inside the doorway.

JPing even if it turns out that it was your shadow that is nothing to be ashamed of. I have known mature adults who would have made a mess of themselves if they had witnessed what you had. I am just glad that you were of a mind that you took in what was occuring around you and made mental notes. You should be able to recreate those same events of that night, minus the children playing hide and seek of course. But other wise I am sure you will be able to determine if it was your shadow or not. Please do keep us informed as to what you discover.

Peace, Love, and Luck be with you.

Thanks Janice 😊

Thanks Abby, I'll try to be as open-minded about this as possible.

Like Shane said it is possible that the thing was just my own shadow (which would be very embarassing). Although I doubt it I will be sure to try and recreate the same atmosphere and setting as on that night. If and when I do that I'll post my fidnings.

Hey Jping, I agree with you, it does make an interesting campfire story, and it's a good one too, because look at all the posters on here, your story is already famous! Well, you wrote the story properly enough to where anyone will believe it, I think that this appearance has something to do with the devil, I know it sounds pretty dumb, but it happens, you know? The way you described the apparation (or whatever it is) is something I would be scared of. I would have run out of the room if I was you because I have to admit, I can be quite a scaredy-cat when it has to do with these things. So, you only saw that red gleam that looked as though it is it's eye? You didn't see the rest of the face? WEll, good luck and take care! 😉

Dear JPing,

I don't see how there is a right or wrong about a story told based on truth of one's own perception and how it went down. As long as a person doesn't harm oneself or others in my opinion there is no wrong way about it. You don't have to convince me or anybody else. I already believe in ghosts, hence my presence on this site. It is after all your "ghost" story and when all is said and done, it is your opinion that truly matters to yourself. You just need to believe in yourself and what you saw. I would also suggest to keep an open mind and a skeptical one at the same time. Always do some research before you come to a final conclusion, but never make it so final it is not flexible enough to make a change, especially in one's belief system. So use your senses, sixth sense and seventh sense, "common sense". If you trust yourself and your gut instincts, you will be just fine when the next life experience occurs.--Blessings, Abby

Yes, I descibed the experience based on how I perceived it, but that doesn't mean I know what it was. I can only guess, and I have guessed that it was a ghost. I've been wrong before.

Dear JPing,

By your own description you already decided what you experienced per your own perception. Yes, a good tale for the campfire.--Abby

Very interesting. I am glad that you had the piece of mind to actually take note of your surroundings. Still I wouldn't know what you could have possibly dealt with that night, could have possilbly been a transient spirit just passing through so to speak.

Peace, Love, and Luck be with you.

Shane, that is one of the explanations I have thought of, but I highly doubt it.

This thing was clearly right in front of me. Were it my shadow it should have been at some distance away at the back of the room.

I could also clearly see the contents of the room behind where it had been before and after it disappeared and when I later came back.

Like I said it had no defined shape but it was around my size so I suppose it was more human then anything.

I'm not sure how to descibe my reaction but the thing didn't seem to be in any way threatening. I wasn't alone in the house either.

I'm 17 now and I would have been around 13-15 when this happened.

Please excuse the gramatical errors in my story, I was tired when I wrote it.

Thank you for sharing your story with us. I think it could have possibly been your own shadow that was created when you walked in front of the fire and the red light could have been a reflection off of something. Not saying that is what is was, just saying it is what it could have been. Good story though.

Peace, Love, and Luck be with you.

Wow! Cool! You weren't even scared! How old are you? What did the figure look like? A monster, man, or an animal?
