Ok, I guess. Three lives were taken from us in 12, all within a few months of each other. All from cancer. Didn't have time to properly grieve before the next loss, and the next. I was a mess in 12, and still try not to think too hard about any of it.
Whatever the hammering incident actually was, it gave me comfort in a very odd sort of way. It was something to figure out, something to puzzle over. It occupied my mind, at least for a few minutes before the worry crashed back over me. Looking back on it, it starts to make a kind of sense, at least to a mind as warped as mine is. Who knows, it may have just been a poltergeist event, but on some level I believe it was intended as a wake up call. I was in such a state I could've walked off a bridge and not noticed. For just a little while, that hammering brought me to my senses. It was a brief moment of thinking instead of feeling, and I needed that in a big way.

BJJ - found this tidbit interesting. From http://www.paganlore.com/directions.aspx

"West - This is the direction of the Element Water and the Power of Emotions. Its Nature forms are oceans, lakes, streams, rivers, wells, springs, dew, precipitation, and fluids in the body. In human life, this is the emotional dimension and the feeling realm. In connecting with this direction, pay attention to your moods, to your feelings about yourself and about others, to the levels of intimacy and trust in your relationships, and to your emotional health. Healing modalities include guided imagery, active listening, expressing feelings, sharing feelings, giving comfort and being comforted, singing, dancing, drawing, and other forms of artistic expression."

BJJ - everything okay now? Or would you rather just skim over that part?

Strictly hammer, not pick-axey. No railroad close to the house. Coal mining, I don't think any was done in this particular area, although there is a coal mine in a neighboring county.
Supposedly a town north of us has underground tunnels, but it's a BS legend that only methies and whackadoodles could believe.

Well, Miracles, some events all you can say is wt! And sometimes all you can do is say it over and over again lol. I have a crackpot theory on it, but it's pretty durned cracked.
Trishspooky, nope, no tunnels. Although that's a cool idea.
Val, omg don't you just hate not being able to find the source of the noise? I worry for days that there are broken bits of something, somewhere. I have an idea of why the noise happened on the west side of the house, it may be hokum, but it goes in with the crackpot theory I mentioned. The house across from us is a modular home, I'm not sure how old, but it was here in 07. Our house is older. Its actually two houses fitted together into one larger house. The front house is from 1950, the back house from about the same time frame. They were fitted together in 08 when the previous owners remodeled the house.
My crackpot theory on what happened is that whatever it was, it was intelligent and had a reason for what it did. I was in an emotionally rough situation, a family member was very ill with cancer. I spent all my time worrying about him. When this hammering incident happened, I was in as close to a good mood as I'd had for a long time. I was actually noticing things for the first time in a while. I think something took that opportunity to try to tell me to snap out of, it's fine to worry but not to the exclusion of what's going on around me. I think that's why the noise happened on the west facing walls, I was on the west side of the house. I'm not sure why the noise was a hammer though. Maybe because hammers have a lot of positive associations for me, and whoever was trying to communicate took something I would respond positively to? I don't know. I couldn't think of anything at the time, only recently has this crackpot theory come together in my mind. After submitting this, I started examining the event in my mind a little more thoroughly than I had before, and this is all I can come up with.

Hey BJJ - Trishspooky planted a seed of a thought in my head but need some help here. Underground tunnel. I don't know much about TX and especially mining, regardless of where it is, but is there any possibility of underground coal mining way back when? Would it have been that kind of sound. You know, the pick axe sound? Or are you talking strictly hammer, like hammer and nail? This one has me literally going "hmmmm..." and you know how much I like these 😆 😉

Then there is always the railroad LOL I do love a puzzle.

BJJ- I wonder why it was only the west facing walls? (I know you don't have an answer, but I wonder you know?) Equally odd is the noise even crossed the road. Is there something to the west of you?
As you said, odd very odd. My roommate and I experienced something similar just last night (well kind of similar) we both heard a loud crash in the kitchen, as if a plate or platter had fallen to the floor. Checked it out but as with you, nothing was amiss.
Thought: was the house across the road and yours built around the same time? Maybe you heard the sound of them being built - like a residual?

BJJ - you know I normally have something to say, some bit of "hmmm...it could be" or "wonder if" but holy crap, I don't have freaking idea what was going on. Actually 😉, as I was reading it, I was thinking WT! 😆 Yep, I really was LOL. I know somewhere there's a thought but all I could think of was wonder if there was a carpenter way back when...

Anyway, that's all I got 😆
