Kindly_refrain, your story is very interesting. Your experience is going into my internal database (so to speak) of events that help me with trying to make sense of the paranormal. The correlation of the electrical-like sensation and the appearance of solid objects is interesting.

Does anyone else report seeing an object (not necessarily the shoes)? Any chance that you can read the diary of the person who also saw the shoes to learn more about the circumstances surrounding these?

In my opinion, no one should rib you about bringing your wife with you at night unless they've been in a similar situation and toughed it out alone. In one of my own stories I admitted to keeping my husband with me when I had to work late in a haunted building. 😉 ~Seraphina

Hello Logan, thanks for your kind words about my submission here. One of the staff members later told me some of her own weird accounts at the house but most of them just did not want to think about things that might scare them, especially at times when they are alone in the house.

Since my event I have heard of a few more occurrences at the house. One told to me by a security guard and another one happened to a contractor. For the last three years they now do talk openly about hauntings at the house, especially at the Halloween event.

This is the kind of creepy, weird goings on no one can explain kind of stories, that make me come back to the site time and again to read. I admire you for finishing your job efficiently and not running away that night, not many us might be capable of that (definitely not me!)

I wonder why the staff refuse to talk about the haunting? I would think it is a good selling point if nothing else. Anyhow, thank you for sharing, I enjoyed reading it immensely.

chauplin1234, thank you for your interest. In the day time the house is warm and cozy but at night... Having my wife come with me does not make me proud but it sure is easier to stay distracted from the old house noises and maybe a bit of imagination. Eldon House does have a web site, check ahead for hours of operation if you plan to visit.

Hello Manafon1, I have never thought about the telepathic message aspect of this occurrence, I suppose once we are discussing this realm, many ideas we may be unfamiliar with are worth consideration. Other people have theorized that since one of the "known" ghosts was a military man this may have been an attack. I am told that there was some form of hand to hand combat training in the 1800s that attacked the face and head. I have never researched this but it certainly does not seem to correlate with the types of shoes we saw that night. It is too bad that no photos were taken of the shoes. I have wondered if the ghost believed that we left for the night and decided to do its regular thing (walking around in shoes or slippers) and that our return, to set the security system, was seen as an invasion of its space, hence the "confrontation". I really don't know. In any case, thank you for your comments.

Kindly refrain--I read your account earlier today and have thought about it a bit while I was working. It is very intriguing that both you and your friend experienced, "a strange, very intense skin crawling sensation from (the) face to the back of (the) neck." This aspect got me to thinking about the theory that some spirits communicate with the living by a telepathic message being sent from the spirit directly the the mid level constituents of the recipients subconscious. There both sender and receiver of this telepathic message create an "apparitional drama" (as it's referred to in psychical literature) of varying complexity and duration.

It seems possible that both you and your friend received a message where something went amiss. Instead of seeing one, or possibly multiple apparitions, you both instead experienced seriously unpleasant head/face pain. I can't recall an account quite like yours but some of the photos your friend took that night suggest one, and possibly more, apparitions were attempting to manifest.

It's really too bad your friend took no photos of the shoes. That these shoes were, apparently, tangible and solid (if fragile), is a truly head scratching element to your account, made all the more fascinating because a former resident of Eldon House saw these beaded slippers many times throughout her 92 year life. At any rate I enjoyed reading your unusual account.
