Hi Kell,

I know exactly what you are going through, if you have read my story sleep interupted by spirits you can see how I dealt with it. Not that it may help you in your situation, but I wanted to let you know you are not alone in this. Something you may want to try before going to sleep at night is burning a sage incense in your room, or some sweet grass or both. I have learned a way of blocking the spirits from being able to bother me while I sleep and it has been peaceful ever since. I wish I could describe to you what it is I do, but I don't think I could put it into words that would make any sense. Good luck to you.

Peace, Love, and Luck be with you.

Hey Jack, I wouldn't mind if it was only once in a while but it is quite frequent and they interrupt my sleep. I wake up cranky wonder why they choose to annoy me. They also give off a scary vibe... They are floating around for a reason... They werent nice people on earth and death hasnt changed them.

I have sleep paralysis about 2 to 3 times a month, when I first experienced it, I was terrified, if there are people visiting you whilst you are in that state, I think that you should try to communicate with them and not be scared, I have had many amazing experiences, one I recall was when I was sleeping when I heard foot steps walking down a stone corridor outside my room, the door was shut and the floor is carpet on my landing, I laid there un fazed but intrigued to what was going on because previous dreams like this had been stranger, the steps got closer to my bedroom door when thy stopped and my bedroom door was slowly eased open with an earie creeking noise, an old short stubby lady entered my room and slowly shuffled towards my bed, I then found myself lying on the floor in the middle of my room, the ldy hovered above me for about ten seconds before to my amazement picking up a pair of my shoes and floating back out of the room with them. It was weird but strangely fun, my point being, if you experience these kind of dreams, even if they are scary, try not to be afraid and do not attempt to wake, the outcome can be good fun, it beats having no dream at all.

try leaving a pen and paper in your room with the words "what do you want?" and see if the 'thing' answers. It is worth a try.

I think it's sleep paralysis ... You should research it. It's where you can't move or speak and you feel like something is on you. I haven't experienced it myself but I watched a documentary on it.

Thanks Anonymous, your caring is really nice. I think its just something I have to learn to live with and try not to be scared as I know deep down that they can't hurt me physically. Sometimes it gets all a bit too much though as life is hard enough when youre awake!

Sorry, one more thing Kell just to let you know that even as christians we are still susceptible to attacks because we believe as the bible teaches that Satan or the Devil is seeking to destroy us. However, the Devil cannot harm us once we become a christian because God puts His seal on us and we are protected by the blood of Jesus (not real blood but the atoning work Jesus did on the cross for our sins) I know this all sounds weird to you but I believe this because I came from a Buddhist background and there are such things as evil spirits as people in my family were once possessed by them. I am sorry if this sounds scary to you, but I just want to share my personal story with you.
Well, I think I've said too much :( but I will still continue to pray for you Kell God bless

Your welcome Kell, but just to let you know that I have personally experienced this happenning to me and I find that I can draw upon the strength that comes from Jesus Christ to overcome them. If you read the bible there are numerous instances where Jesus drives demons out of people and just the mention of Jesus name sends demons trembling. But this does not mean that as christians we abuse this power because in the end it is ultimately our faith that will save us.

It is impossible to place everyone in that same catagory POO, as I have stated in past post not everything is black and white there are grey areas. There are things in this world that can not be explain, though we would like to be able to explain everything that happens in this big universe. What you experienced and what others are or have experienced may be two totaly different things. I have seen, heard, and felt things when I was wide awake that defy explanation. I don't drink or do drugs, so I know they were not hallucinations. I just believe that different things happen to different people for a reason. It keeps the world a very interesting place don't you think.

I know that these events are terrifying you all, but they are just hallucinations. As I said before, I've had it twice myself - waking up, unable to move, seeing figures in my room. Bloody weird? Yes. But real? No. They may appear very real (I still toy with the idea that they are), but they're not. The human brain is the most sophisticaed computer in existence - creating dark figures and eerie noises is child's play for it.
One thing: the same hormone (serotonin) that creates dreams (and sleep paralysis dreams) is used in LSD to make people hallucinate. Sleep paralysis is just like a 'bad trip'. Funnily enough, some people on LSD will be absolutely resolute in claiming that what they saw was real... Just like you.

I appreciate your thoughts and prayers anonymous and I am sure after I tell you that I don't believe in God you will think that's why it happens to me but by the other comments posted on this page it happens to people who are religious also. I truely thank you for your comments though. :)

Try an expiriment. Get your parents to stay in the room while you sleep. Or put a tape recorder in your room, or video camera. Can you see your breath? Is it cold?

I have been scared of these horrible little night time adventures for over ten years now. It happens quite often and there's no doubt in my mind that they are real. I also seem to pass it on to people around me too. My friends, family and people at work. If you calm down and tell it to go away it will eventually let you go but they can also take you to very weird places in the sence of your dreams. You can never really see the spirit but you can sense if it is male or female (mine are usually men). Some spirits are stronger than others, they can affect your dreams and others just apply force to make you freeze up. I have one particular old man that comes back every few month and while I am just dreaming normally he will make the dream become bad all of a sudden and when I realise it is him he begins laughing at me and then freezes me up. They can also take on the form of you family or friends and talk to you. One actually used to take form of my chihuahua and jump on the side of my bed in my dreams so I would wake up and then he could freeze me. I am currently being woken up a 3.55am each morning, which is another trick that they do so you can sense their presence because it is exactly the same time each morning.(although the spirit that is currently trying to annoy me must have been out attacking someone else this morning as I woke up at 4.46 - so he was running late!) It may seem like I am joking about it but it is a horrible thing to live with and I am not sure if it will ever go away. I have throw away different items I owned thinking it was attached to something, moved house, had mediums out to my house... Everything but still they visit me and I am not sure why. I am happy I stumbled across this site though as I all of a sudden feel a little more normal. I don't have any tips or ideas of what exactly they are nor has anyone ever explained to me how to get rid of them - I have just come to my own conclusions over the years. Good luck in finding a cure and if you do I would love to know!

I would love that this cultural phenomenon we call sleep paralysis just be something that could be explained by science but it just can't. We who have experienced it know the difference between a nightmare from eating too much pizza and the sense of a presence in your room. I fully understand that antidotal evidence can’t be proven as fact but the sheer amount of it affecting every single culture on our planet gives me pause.
First let me tell you about me before I go into specific experiences about some of my background, I’m a born again Christian man that believes God’s word is true, beyond that denominations are unnecessary. I’ve haven’t lived a prefect life, not even close but I believe that Christ perfection makes up for my missteps.
Every since I was young I was a constant dreamer, I would dream in color, black& white, flying etc. More than often those normal dreams would be nightmares, I approach my mother about the constant bad dreams and how to deal with them and she told me to pray in Jesus name. I gladly obeyed my mother and the bad dreams stop, If we fast forward to my early twenties ( I’m thirty now ) when I first met my wife to be something different started taking place in the night. I would awake in the darkness of my room alone and I would see shadowy figures standing then suddenly vanishing from my eyes. I’m not an easy scare so I really thought nothing of it and would some fall back to sleep. Around that time I was struggling with porn and sex and I often brought home videos hiding them out of sight of my snoopy mother. The experiences began in intensify, I would awake to pressing unable to move or scream, I’ve even awoke to fully aware to see a figure so terrifying and graphic for me to describe to you. I one situation in particular I was lying in my bed with my had at the foot of the bed, I hade hidden in my dresser a porn flick , I was sleeping comfortable when I heard my father walk down the hallway towards my room, he stretched and yawned at my front door then entered in. I was thinking what the heck is he doing in here this isn’t something the he normally does. I felt him stand beside the bed then suddenly he climbed in with me the wood on my bed giving a creak and then laid on top of my. At that moment I knew I wasn’t my dad it uttered word just above a whisper in my ears in a unearthly raspy tongue. I first tried to call my mom but no words left my lips all I could mumble and think about was JESUS JESUS JESUS , I said his name three times and It was gone. Needless to say I got rid of the porn that night.
Check on some text from the bible that prove that this can and does happen .Genesis 4 :7 If you doe well shall you not be accepted ? If you doest not well , sin lieth at the door, And unto thee shall be his desire. (the bible called this sin a him.)
Job 4:13 In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men. 14 Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones shake. Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up.
Matt 12: 43 When an unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh in dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none.
And finally check out psalm 91: 5 Thou shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor the arrow that flieth by day. There are a ton more but I can’t tell everyone but just remember we don’t have to fear anything at all with Christ, those demons want us to fear and get depressed but the Love of God trumps any power over the devil. I haven’t had anymore evil experiences like that after but I have some wonderful ones I don’t have time to get into. Hit me at my email and I tell you what happen At Bridges174 [at] yahoo.com please remember the power is in the name of Jesus and they can’t mess with you.

Sleep Paralysis? It can’t be… Yesterday when I was watching TV… the VHS cassettes on the shelves started falling down… and last night… when my husband came to bed… out little trash bucket that we keep in our room… the Wal-Mart plastic bag started crinkling really loud as though someone was there... It freaked my husband out… He turned on the light and it stopped… nothing was there… For the rest of the night, I was terrified… I couldn’t sleep…. I felt the presence of something there… leaning against me… watching, and waiting for me to sleep…. I cried… and I pray to god… I finally fell asleep, peacefully…

Poo is right. What you're experiencing sounds exactly like sleep paralysis. Kia is also describing the same thing; sleep paralysis is better-known in Eastern cultures. It doesn't mean you're crazy, it's a completely natural phenomenon. Try sleeping in a sideways position. If you find yourself in the state described, try to move a toe or something to wake up.

I have had the same experience of black figures holding me down. I am a christian and the first thing that I did was cry out to Jesus and He saved me immediately. Give that a go or if you are not a Christian then maybe you should think about committing yourself to Jesus.

In order for that to stop you have to pray I know exactly how you feel. I remember when I was younger It used to happen to me a lot until I told a friend of mine and she told me it was like a saying that goes something like this (The witch is on you) that's what they used to call it back in the days. So just pray every night before you go to sleep and don't play any ouija games or anything like that.

I’m hmong, 21 years old. I don’t do drugs… nor do I drink… I love my life…
And this kind of thing is very common in my culture. We believe that it’s an evil spirit that sits on you. And you can catch it from sleeping in the bed of someone who gets it… It’s very scary! I caught it from my husband when we were dating. The first time it happened was in my room, lying down almost to sleeping mode… when I saw 3 dark shadows crawled out from my bedroom window. They were like about 3 feet tall, haunch back and very long arm and hand. Well they crawld to my bedside and grab my leg. I didn’t feel my body paralyze or anything heavy on top of me… but I was suddenly in a whole new realm… it was like a dream sorta… or in the spiritual world. I saw myself getting up and running out of my room… but then I’m pulled back into my own body. It’s weird.

So when my husband and I got married. Had our first baby for about 3 months, she’s 4 months now. The first thing I realized before anything ever happened was… stuff was falling in our room… One day I walked into the room and my note pad stikies just flew off or was scattererd on the floor. I have this picture frame hanging on the wall… the frame never fell of the wall. But the glass inside the frame fell of and cracked. This picture of me and my husband that we took at those cheap picture vendors always slip out… and things started happening…

I woke up at about 7am to make lunch for my husband. After that I jumped into bed, sleeping at his side of the bed. I felt something… (if you point a pencil against your forhead, that tingly feeling) that’s what I felt. Then, my whole body was paralyze! To my knowledge, there was something really on top of me… I turn my head to where my daughter was sleeping… and asked her to help me… I know it sounds dumb… but I was freaken scared… I was now in the spiritual world, screaming for my mothernlaw… and my sisterlaw… Help! Get my Baby! I looked in my room and saw that thing… his head was on top of my bed. I woke up! Terrifield… I just lay in bed, thinking... What the F*ck just happened. Sometimes I can feel his feet against mines….

I know, that thing only comes at the same time every morning… after that happened I wake up and stay awake. It happened again every morning and the same thing happened… My sister gave me some herbal stuff to keep that thing away… it worked! For about a month…(the herbs fell under my bed so it wasn’t protecting me) Until yesterday… well it’s a belief that if you sleep on your side… that thing won't be able to get to you… well so I did that morning… and I felt the same thing… I felt it from my legs,, trying to get a hold of my feet… and it came on top of me… paralyzing my whole entire body… trying to push me on my back… I was fighting it… And I can really feel my spirit in and out of my body… I can feel my spirit being pushed agiasnt the mattress… I managed to open my eyes and didn’t see anything there… but it was still on top of me… trying to get inside of me… I heard my baby crying in her crib… and that thing went away… This morning… I felt it… I felt the presence of it in my room... So I left the room to sleep on the couch and I think it followed me…

Yeah, it's sleep paralysis. I've had it twice before, myself, so I know what you're on about.

In short, your body wakes itself up too early - while your brain is still in its REM (or deep) sleep stage. This is the stage where dreaming happens, merely because all sorts of hallucigenic hormones are being released by your brain at this point. This is why people hear, see and feel things in sleep paralysis - they're basically just dreaming, yet while awake. As a defensive mechanism, your body paralysises itself during REM sleep to stop you from acting out your dreams. As sleep paralysis involves waking too early, your body will remain paralysed for a few seconds or minutes, before it realises what's happening.

Your sister probably heard your stepmother telling her to 'get up' when she woke at 2am because her hallucinating brain told her that's the usual routine in the morning. The same with you and your dad. If it's really disturbing you, go see your doctor - he might be able to give you drugs for it.

I know everyone think it's your sleeping problem, but this is not. I have friends and family members who gets this a lot. I was told that if a ghost was ever trying to sit on me I will have to move my toe. Give it a try next time. Tell me what happen when you do.

That's strange. I've had some weird stuff happen while I was sleeping 2. One time, I was like asleep, and then, all of the sudden, like out of nowhere, something grabs at me. I freaked out, but I couldn't move an inch. I thought it was some kind of creepo sneeking in my house, I have a blackbelt in karate, so the first thing that came to mind was scream " LET ME GO" just like they taught us. Obviously this thing wasn't letting go, so I went to put whatever it was, (I thought it was a man at the time) into an arm lock posiston, but I couldn't move. It got to the point to were my body was physically and mentally worn out. I felt like I was dying. I slowly fell asleep. The next morning I woke up in the hallway closet wrapped up in a pile of coats.

I totaly know how you feel, okay, ive never actually seen the face of what it actually is,but all of that stuff pinning you down to your bed,you cant move, you cant cry for help, all you can do is pray to God that he helps you.Whenever it happens to me,my heart beats like a rumble,so fast.It happended to me again last night. I wish it would jus STOP! Anyway, I tell you, this is no sleep-epelipsy or that kinda stuff, these are spirits/demons trying to scare you, hoping you would become so weak, and eventually become one of them,no place to go,have nothing, only the light of darkness, and the sound of silence. Ah-hoi !! Daimnn ..

ok theparalysis part is just caused by your mind, hence the term "sleep paralysis"
NOW WHAT GRABS ME IS your ghost story, as I was reading it, I sorta saw your gate isnt it like stones in the pathway or something? now the ghost is or should I say was a man, but I feel it was a woman who was a mother that died in your house, thats why she tells you to do things, because since she was sick she couldnt do it

Freaky huh? I'm also on the psychic version of his website same name

Dear Robert, this is possibly sleep paralysis as stated by Kodak. This is also the way one prepares to leave one's body when in a semi dream state, by feeling the heaviness of the physical body, being pulled into the mattress and so forth. Sometimes you feel like you are suffocating. Before you go to sleep ask or pray for a peaceful exit from your body when you reach REM stage and before dreamland or astral body time. Put your full intention upon it and roll out of your body without difficulty, light as a white feather. If you feel from your intuition that there are negative beings or shadow people do as I suggested to unguided traveler (refer to my comment), and tell the unwelcome beings to leave and that they are not welcome in your space, period. You are always in control, now use your power and intention and believe it and believe in yourself. Happy out of body travels!

The nurses in my family say it’s a sleep paralysis but I think there’s more to it. Yes there are those times when I may be having a sleep paralysis and I feel I’m not fully connected to my body… then there are times when it’s really unexplainable.

Once in the second grade, I woke up in the middle of the night gasping for air and when I opened my eyes a dark figure was laying on top of me. Its chest was hard, I kicked and screamed as loud as I could so my sister, sleeping next to me, would hear but she didn’t. When I finally told myself that I won’t fight anymore and it can take me, the figure got up and stood up. He was tall, had sharp ears, and a pair of wings. He looked like a gargoyle. His eyes were glowing red too. At this point, I was still paralyzed. I saw him leap out the open window (this window was open because of the summer heat) and the next morning I woke up underneath my bed.

I don’t think this can be categorized as a “sleeping paralysis”…

What you should do is get some sage incence. Smudge your house with it. This is a really good way in guarding off entities you do not wish to be in your house. If this doesn't help, do the following when it happens again. Entities don't need to hear words in order for them to understand something. Form in your head a visualisation that you are kicking this entity's butt as a figure of speech. Let him know you aren't afraid, that his days over frightening you are over. In any case, an entity is only as you let it be.

Hey man. I think I know what it bothering u. its probably a demon from the pits on hell which is tomenting you for its own pleasure. the devil wants to scare and hurt u. now, if you were a christian, any demon would not be able to hurt u. to be a christian, you need to ask Jesus to come into your life and ask Him to forgive you of your sins. when you become a christian, you have been given autority over any demon. they cannot hurt you or even touch u. Jesus loves you man and He wants to help and protect u. I hope you take this for granted.

God bless.

This doesn't sound good- I mean, not that it would be. Either this is some freak health condition (I doubt it) or this is a demon. Something that evil that's paralysing you is really dangerous. You should tell your parents and try to convince them to hire some paranormal investigators (although they probably won't agree with that). Either that, or you stay with another family member for a while. But even then, it may follow you. I suggest be on high cautions.

I would be careful and wary of that place and anymore activity, as I know it to be true that Ghosts are not spirits of the dearly departed, but Demons that take on the form of something familiar. These demons are known as familiar spirits and are dangerous. Possession Is a very real and present danger as well as physical harm. I would urge you NOT to mess or play with the occult such as phsycics or mediums, tarot cards and ouja boards as these will open up doors for these spirits to further mess with you. These things are very real and documented. Many poeple have been thrown around rooms by invisible "spirits" and scratched. Many unexplained yet very real things have happened. These Demons are The children of The Nephilim. I know of poeple who have had similar experiences as well. As a matter of fact, the wife of my youth pastor was going to bed the night she got saved at church and she felt a hand push her face into her pillow causing her to nearly suffocate until she was able to call out to jesus for help, as soon as she did, the spirit fled. I too have had an encounter with a demon in the form of a dream and an ominous presence in my hotel room at disney world. Whatever you do, I would urge you to consider prayer and help from someone at your local church. Or if you like I would be willing to help if anything else transpires with these spirits. I would encourage you not to seek help from witchcraft, psychics or mediums as there power comes soley from these demons working through them and will only escalate the situation and put fuel to the fire.

oh man, I had no idea that so many people have had these kinds of experiences! it makes me feel better. my problem is this: sometimes, because i'm a cronic insomniac, i'll lay in bed on my back and close my eyes, just to rest a little. I crack one eye open just a little, and i'll see four shadowy figures standing around the end of my bed. I can't see their faces but they are whispering to each other and I get the feeling that they are talking about me. finally, they seem to reach a decision and the one who is standing closest to my feet will reach out and grab them. (I can actually feel hands on my ankles) and starts to drag me down the bed towards them. at this point, I usually try to open my eyes all the way to see them, but they vanish if I do. if I don't make any move to be free or open my eyes, one of the shadows who is standing on my right side will lean over me and start whispering angrily at the others until they let me go. I don't know what's up, but it really scares me.

hello, I have recerached this topic before, as it has happened to me a few times,
however, I do not for one moment beleive it is an evil spirit, ghost, demon, or otherwise discarnate entity.
according to my research, it is very common for people to wake up paralysed, and experience auditory or visual hallucinations. supposedly, this is something akin to a type of epilepsy, the mind wakes, and functions, but the body does not react, the "pressure" is a side affect of this.
for more information, google the term "sleep paralysis" if that proves unfruitful, I suggest visiting a sleep clinic, if it is a physical, rather than paranormal experience, a sleep specialist will be able to piunpoint this, and tell you whats wrong. personaly, I'm not a cynic, I believe full well in the existance of discarnate entities, however, I dont believe that anything that cant be immedietly explained is caused by ghostly means, first look for scientific evidence and reasons why this may be effecting you, before you go researching ghosts and jump to an unnecassary conclusion.

I have had a simmilar experiance, except I have never been paralyzed. I wake up to some one wispering my name and just after a friend of mine got in a car accident and her four year old daughter was killed it has started naming off dead people and sometimes even names I have never heard of. always at 5:00 in the morning. It doesnt matter what I do it will not leave! not unless my boyfriend stays the night with me. he can make anything seem better.

this happened to me only last night for the first time, so I googled it and this page came up, I had a bad dream, and it caused me to wake up, and I have clear distinctions between dreams and reality and I know I was awake, I fealt pressure on my chest and right shoulder, I couldnt move at all, I just kept stuggling to move or scream, after about a minute I was able to make small noises and kept saying get off me, I managed to say it loud enough to wake my girlfriend up, and as soon as I saw her look at me, it all went away, but I can still feel where it was on my chest now. I know there was someone there, a person, and for some reason it felt like a woman. scared the %#$! out of me

Hey, I've had this type of event happen to me as well. Not only was I paralyzed and felt a presence open my door and rush on top of me, but I couldnt speak or see. On top of that a voice right above my ear said very clearly "dort" which in french means "sleep". I was then able to jerk myself up, and I felt the whole thing lasted about 40 seconds. Now after researching this online, I found something called sleep paralysis, which is basically when your brain tells your body to stay put during sleep, but in this case your brain awakens and your body is still told that you are asleep. The feeling of a presence and not being able to move, speak or see is supposedly part of the effects of s.p. . Supposedly in the past people believed it was death or demonic forces that visited them when this would occur. They say sleep paralysis is caused by irregular sleeping patterns and is preceded by lucid dreams, which was exactly my case. then again the scientific explanation about these feelings is unclear. I had a friend who had this happen to her too, and she said she was sleeping on her back, and it seems lots of people are remembering that as being their sleeping position during the experience.

Hello from Australia. In the last 2 months I have woken up numerous times not able to move or call for help it feels like someone is laying on me it lasts for around 1 minute. Once I woke up and it felt like someone was sitting on the side of my bed then I felt pressure on my arm as if someone was tryin to drag me off the bed. I never see anything though.Im glad I can share it with you guys. I never believed in ghosts and stuff I think I do now.

Weird... but I have a hypothisis on what might have happened about your dad. He could've been sleep walking, and that's why he didn't remember being in your room. As for the thing climbing on you... I can't explain. It probably is something paronormal and you should pray for it to stop.

I was 6yrs old when this thing happened to me It usually happens in the middle of the night or at dawn I couldnt move but I am concious and can open my eye lids but the thing is I couldnt resist not to fall asleep as if am being druged and the thing that really freaked me out is that if I didnt fight back to fall asleep i'll dream of a small white ball that looked like a snow ball and it follows me at the same time its getting bigger and bigger and I tried to run as fast as I could however fast I run and determine not to be under this ball in the end i'll just find my self under this huge and heavy white ball exhousted, sofocated and trap for acouple or more mins. then its gone. I coulndt tell my mom because she 'll tells me that am having a night mare(is that a nightmare? hello am conciousand apart from that its frequent and same thing happened again and again )Anyway, I developed a technic not to fall asleep however hard it can be I make sure that I dont and I know when to sleep cozz that feeling of being druged is gone. Its been ages since I experienced that I think it stop when I went to college. good luck guys hope you'll conquer what ever wired things happening to your life.('_')

My partner went to work & I was sleeping. I'm a very light sleeper, but then suddenly I started to feel pressure onto my chest. I tried to open my eyes only a few times wen I realized what was happening. I was totally paralysed, couldnt move at all, I was screaming "get off me!" at the back of my head. I was trying to fight it, trying to move as much as I can but it was hard & just so cold. I almost feel I couldnt breathe, the pressure on my chest was getter harder & heavier. I was terrified something was going to happen so didnt stop fighting. and then, it went away. I didnt go back to sleep. what the hell was it??

This happened a few months ago and lasted for 2 hours. I was asleep in bed with my grilfried when I woke up to relize that I could not move. I could look around the romm but I could not talk or move. I kept hearing heavy breathing coming from the other side of the room and it sounded like someone was pacing the halls. I could see that my girlfriend was asleep next to me so it could not have been her. I tried to focus and I managed to get my hand next to her and was able to poke and nudge her. It wasn't easy. It was point less because she woke up but didnt help me. This went on for another hour. The next day she told me that I was making horrible noises and wouldnt stop poking her. I dont know what caused this. it use to happen when I was younger and lived with my parrents. I would try not to sleep during the day because it mainly happened to me during the day and the things I would see and hear were really freaky.Sometimes I think my apartment is haunted because I just feel nervous when I'm alone. Nothing really out of the normal has happened though besides a few things.

Scientists and physicists say that it is part of the natural "sleep cycle." I don't believe that. This has happened to me numerous times when I was younger. I'd be sleeping and wake up, only to find myself unable to move or speak. I would cry out for help, but nothing came out. The only way to stop it would be to pray in my head with all my might. I'm christian, and strongly think that what occurred was more than just part of the natural sleep cycle. It was probably some ghost or entity. But it hasn't happened for a long time now, probably because I've become more devouted to my faith. Thanks for listening to my story. Hope you aren't experiencing those incidents anymore.

woooow I'm soo glad to have met other people who have experienced these strange incidences!! I had these things happen to me a few times in the past, initally I was soo freaked out I would cry when the feeling went, they used t be very agressive and trumatic experiences, I used to swear I saw this hazy/blurry type object charge towards me then pin me down. One time the day after I had kinda forgoton about the episode, until I felt a sore bruise on my chest where I had been pinned down, strange!! Anyway now I agree with yolie, I realised I had to stop getting scared and calm down went it happened, to feel sure of myself and not scared!! It's worked and I have not experienced them for a long time. However to me it's been a blessing because now I have started to get incredibally strange experiences but on the positive end of the spectrum, which is why I stubbled across this site. But I wanna keep my mind free because to me beliefs, whether bad or good will not allow me the mental freedom I need to explore these feelings/abilities. Good luck everyone M xx

Hi! I think what you have been experiencing is what they call Astral Projection. It is believed by many that when we sleep our souls leave our body and travel to other places, maybe even Heaven. When you feel paralyzed it is because you were awakened before your soul got back into your body and it makes it a rough and scary decent back into your body. What you need to do before you go to sleep at night is pray to God and ask him to help you make a quicker and easier decent back into your body, it should work.

That happens to me sometimes too. But I've come to realize that it happens not because someone or something is attacking you and holding you down, but because you were having an OBE at the time and your spirit didn't have time for an easy transition back into your body. For some reason your earth body has been stirred from slumber which meant that your spirit got slammed back into your body.

i used to have those same things happen to me in my parents house and at the beginning it really scared me.almost every night for about four days!! I would have an episode but one night I just fought with all my strenght and prayed and all of a sudden I just got angry that this thing thought I was weak! I broke free got up from the bed and stood in front of this black shadow I told it that it was over among other thing, also said that I was a child of the light and as soon as I said that it laughed at me I told it that god would protect me and it said we will see and left. never had another episode again. never been afraid again. even though I see things people don't believe in and that's just fine but at least I'm not scared any more. remember your its your body your soul get mad! no one but god has that power over you and don't worry about what other people think they have not experienced what you have so they do not understand!!!!

paul,

while I agree those symptoms are strangely reminiscent of sleep paralysis (having had several episodes myself), but it is estimated that your average person will experience only 1 episode of sleep paralysis in a lifetime. From what he's saying, he did not experience long lapses of time in which he was asymptomatic... Who knows? Sleep paralysis could be a paranormal experience. I always thought mine were. Funny, isn't it? There are some things we just don't know.

Hi Robert

If your story is true and based on couple of hints that you provided in your story such as sleep Paralysis and your constant waking up around 2am clearly suggest that it was an astral projection experience. If you don't know what I am talking about then I suggest that you check it on internet or buy this book called

When I Go to Sleep
by Belzebuub

ISBN: 0974056081
Category: Parapsychology
Format: Paperback
Stock Level: In Stock
Publisher/Supplier: Absolute | Publication Year: 2006

This book will absolutely help you with all your problems you had when you go to sleep and what to do if you experience them again.

Sleep Paralysis is NOT an old hag Syndrome as some people suggest. That is just STUPID. Sleep Paralysis is normal and it happens to everyone when they go to sleep. The reason is because your body shuts down all body movements so that when you dream you won't act out in your dreams.

Paul, you are funny. What is the part that is dramatic? Perhaps you could read what is written and you would see for yourself that he spoke also of his sister's experience. Difficult to use your fear-based theory in this situation due to the experience being not only of his alone. We cannot explain everything on proven scientific methods and whether you like it or not Paul, spirits do exist, they are the essence of what is the soul, and some of them do get "stuck" or hang-on-to this earth plane for a varying amount of reasons. Do not be so arrogant to think you are the only holder of "truth" for I am sure that not one of us mere motals has the total truth of All That Is.

It is a little disturbing to me and no doubt to others that one such as yourself would be advising not to believe all that I say when I know I had spoken from pure intent and from plenty of years of experience as a physics teacher at our city's university.

Don't be gulible, but be open minded, it's essential for proper learning on all levels. We are ALL yet to know everything.

Dude, you're not alone. I just recently had a sleep paralysis type experience. At my dad's house of coarse (where they usually take place). It was in the morning. I was fully aware of my surroundings, but there was this crazy sensation where it was like I was underwater. I felt like there were voices talking all around me. I tried to call to my dad but all I could say was "Ggguuuhhhh... Uggghhhhh....!" In a weak voice. That's what woke me up. I was like holy crap, what was that?!

You suffer from Sleep Paralysis also known as the old hag Syndrome. It is not that uncommon. I hate to take away from the excitment of Ghost and all but I have read about it before. I have attached a little of what turned up from my Dogpile search. Here it is. At the end I'll leave a link to the page.

"The name of the phenomenon comes from the superstitious belief that a witch - or an old hag - sits or "rides" the chest of the victims, rendering them immobile. Although that explanation isn't taken very seriously nowadays, the perplexing and often very frightening nature of the phenomenon leads many people to believe that there are supernatural forces at work - ghosts or demons.

The experience is so frightening because the victims, although paralyzed, seem to have full use of their senses. In fact, it is often accompanied by strange smells, the sound of approaching footsteps, apparitions of weird shadows or glowing eyes, and the oppressive weight on the chest, making breathing difficult if not impossible.
The medical establishment is quite aware of this phenomenon, but has a less sensational name than "old hag syndrome" for it. They call it "sleep paralysis" or SP (sometimes ISP for "isolated sleep paralysis").

So what causes it? Dr. Max Hirshkowitz, director of the Sleep Disorders Center at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Houston, says that sleep paralysis occurs when the brain is in the transition state between deep, dreaming sleep (known as REM sleep for its rapid eye movement) and waking up. During REM dreaming sleep, the brain has turned off most of the body's muscle function so we cannot act out our dreams - we are temporarily paralyzed. Sheryl Crow Battles
The Old Hag

Rock singer Sheryl Crow is a victim of sleep paralysis, as she revealed in a 1996 interview with Rolling Stone magazine. "It's a bizarre and twisted feeling where you feel completely paralyzed. You are sure you are going to die."

"Sometimes your brain doesn't fully switch off those dreams - or the paralysis - when you wake up," Hirshkowitz told ABC News. "That would explain the 'frozen' feeling and hallucinations associated with sleep paralysis." According to his research, the effect only really lasts from a few seconds to as long as a minute, but in this half-dream half-awake state, to the victim it can seem much longer.

In her article, "Help! I Can't Move!," Florence Cardinal, About.com's Guide Sleep Disorders, writes: "Sleep paralysis is often accompanied by vivid hallucinations. There may be a sense someone is in the room, or even hovering over you. At other times, there seems to be pressure on the chest, as though someone or something perched there. There may even be sexual attacks associated with the hallucinations. The sound of footsteps, doors opening and closing, voices, all can be a very frightening part of sleep paralysis. These are known as Hypnagogic and Hypnopompic Experiences and they are what make people dread an episode of sleep paralysis."
How can you prevent sleep paralysis? According to clinical research, you may be able to minimize the episodes by following good sleep hygiene:

get enough sleep
reduce stress
exercise regularly (but not too close to bedtime)
keep a regular sleep schedule
"For some people this may not be possible, however," says Florence Cardinal, "so instead let's look at ways to escape from the grip of sleep paralysis. The best remedy is to will yourself to move, even if it's only the wiggling of your little finger. This is often sufficient to break the spell. If you can manage it, scream! Your roommate may not appreciate it, but it's better than suffering through a long and fear-filled episode. If all else fails, seek professional help."
http://paranormal.about.com/library/weekly/aa112000b.htm

I hope you find comfort in knowing that you are OK and that 30% of the population suffer from the same thing.
PS. It sounds like Megan is a little over dramatic. I would strongly question anything she writes in the future as she might be making it up.
GOD bless you and have a good night sleep.

Autumn, I need to seriously talk to you, I don't mean to talk to you about this in front of everybody, I'm so sorry, but I thought you told me you were twenty years of age, were you lying? First of all, you tell me your twenty and then I see it here that your really thirteen, wow that's not right. Lying about your age won't get you anywhere really, now what's your right age? Unless, your different then who I'm talking about, but how can that be? Did you decide to copy the real Autumn's name? oh never mind, well, if your not lying, you must have split personality or something, because why would you lie? Well, this site is for ghosts, sorry about that. Laters everyone, and Autumn, I hope you do write back(which you haven't been doing lately, if you want me to stop bothering you, tell me, please) well, sorry everybody, you can ignore this stupid comment and continue posting and reading about ghosts.

Hi Robert! I also experience those kind of dreams almost everyday. It is as if you are awake but when you try to get up and do something you can not move and when you try to say something your mouth does not open. All you can do is scream with your mouth closed. I have been having these dreams for about 2 years now. I started to pray about it and also call on God in my mind while I was having those dreams because even though you can not move your lips you can still speak in your mind. They began to go away so now I only have them every once in awhile. Now, I just try not to get scared or worried while it's happening and I use my mind really hard to try to move my arm or something and eventually it works and I just wake up. Try to have good thoughts while you are having this half-awake dream. I believe in spirits also and I do believe that maybe these are lost souls but you can have control if you just concentrate and don't get scared while you have the dream.

Autumn: I actually removed those two posts, one was barely readable and the other was disrespectful, so it wasn't going anywhere. I might have been a little overzealous for the first one, but I do have to delete a lot of crap from vandals and morons in here and one thing they have in common is they can't write. I try to keep a certain standard or else the site gets overtaken by the myspace crowd, since anyone can post (that may have to change in the future, unfortunately). Also, *officially*, this site is not for anyone under 13, as certain topics can be troubling for very young minds (I do allow the mature ones like Patrick). I easily spot them with either SMS language, very, very bad spelling or inane comments. These things are covered in our comments guidelines:

Well, on the chance that my post did not go to the right place, then, carry on, people, and ignore.

Hmm... Daniel... it is really not required to make fun of spelling errors. That was very, very cheap. He was stating his opinion, and there's nothing wrong with that. Attacking someone's writing is just mean, and uncalled for. Some people can spell or write better than others, but that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Very childish and rude indeed.

Skeptic: While I do believe in ghosts, and so your opinion counters mine, don't let people who are rude and spiteful discourage you from stating what you believe.

Sounds like a lost soul is in your house and it's playing head games. What is the history attached to the house you live in? If you don't know, then find out. Do a title search and find out people who may have died in the house. Often these souls have not passed on in the proper sense and hence remain "earth-bound". They are in limbo and hence are stuck. But in actual fact they are bound by their own thoughts and consciousness. This spirit is being a pest for a reason. Your job is to find out this reason. Talk to it, and listen in your mind. Sense the emotions. Does it feel angry, sad, despairing, happy, naughty etc

Also there are special angels on the "other-side" that aid us in a protective way against the other side. One of these who is most well known and powerful is "Arch Angel Michael". Down load pictures of him and place them around the house, particularly above your bed. The pictures in themself provide protection - an energetic thing. Speak to AA Michael through your mind. Ask for his help, and that of the powerful white and golden lights. These lights are of the greatest strength and protection, and when you imagine this light all around you and call in AAMichael when this force is on you, you will feel suprisingly safe. It happened to me and I know this to be truth.

Good luck.
