Living Enrichment Center on 2009-11-10

This is my second story about the Living Enrichment Center, an abandoned worker rehabilitation center in Wilsonville, Oregon. I had some bizarre experiences there before, which I wrote about in my first story. It actually took a little nerve to come back a second time after what happened the first t...

The Toybox on 2009-11-02

When I was ten years old I moved with my parents and two brothers from Milwaukie, Oregon to Portland. I was sad at first because I had grown fond of our old house. We were only able to stay in Milwaukie for two years because of... Complicated circumstances. Suffice to say it was a rough neighborhood...

Music From The Basement on 2009-10-26

When I was fifteen I didn't like hearing ghost stories. I liked to joke around with my friends about stuff like that but I was very rational, and still am. While unexplained phenomena can normally be explained rationally, to this day I have a difficult time understanding what happened that day. I am...

Ghost story: Great Nanny
Date: 2009-11-15
I agree with Watersprite. I believe your Great Nanny was there with you when you used her old cookware. Smile
My Grandfather on my mom's side of the family used to smoke cigarettes before he died. A couple weeks after he passed away my mom was looking through an old book that used to belong to him. She got sad and started crying, and then it suddenly smelled like cigarettes in the room. I was there trying to make her feel better and we both stopped and sniffed a few times. It was like we knew he was there. Nobody in my family smokes. Surprised

Dimber: It wasn't for fun, it was for science... Ghost science...? Our intent was to find something paranormal, and this seemed like the best place to look. I always conduct my search using the safest practices possible. Even though it was a big empty building, I wouldn't recommend going somewhere like this unprepared or alone. Thanks for your concern.

Hey JamesRobiscoe: I hope the first LEC story gets published soon so people can see the pictures, which are quite eerie. My brother has always liked being scared and loved ghost stories, while I didn't acquire a taste until I was out of high school. I am not sure if any of us are sensitive to the paranormal but I know we've seen our fair share of weird stuff. As far as the phone batteries go, I don't think they were dead, our phones just wouldn't work at all. I took my battery out when my cell wouldn't stop vibrating, but my brother's phone just turned itself off and wouldn't come back on until we left. It was very odd. Please read the first Living Enrichment Center story when it gets published. Thanks!

I submitted both LEC stories almost at the same time and this one got published first. I believe the reason is that I submitted pictures with the first story. Confused
Ghost story: Lisa

It is nice to hear she came back to visit you. You must've had a very important relationship with her. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure this brought you a little peace and closure. Happy
Ghost story: Wet Ghost?
Date: 2009-11-08
I have a question, you have yet to go back but you co-own the house? Where do you live? Confused
Ghost story: The Toybox

didssy_: I haven't had any paranormal experiences where I live now. I live in a third-story apartment in downtown Portland. I do miss the Portland house even though it's a little creepy at times. I haven't had any experiences in the house in a few years either. My parents still live there though.

chicken: Thanks man. I can't believe some of the stories that get published on this site. The submission rules sound rigorous but don't get enforced very strictly. Skeptical
That's freaky you had a similar experience. I hope to read about your experiences if you ever feel like sharing.

Paulo: The lion was actually a first time gift for my little bro from my Grandma. She's still alive so I guess it's not her ghost... I wish we still had the toy so I could post pictures of it, it was really creepy looking. It had these big weird eyes that looked like they wanted to eat your soul. But yeah it's gone now. Confused

Haha, oh man. "Energy efficient ghost." That's classic man. Laugh
Ghost story: The Toybox

neu: I have wondered that myself for years. I have come to think that it's the house, because weird stuff has happened over the years. Most things weren't particularly scary, just unusual, like the footsteps. Sometimes we heard stuff moving around in the attic at night. There was a light switch in the hallway that would turn off by itself. When my little bro was a toddler he used to talk to an empty room and sometimes he said he saw people walking around in unoccupied areas. Once he said a woman walked past our room but we were the only people home. Man he could freak me out. Confused

Hey Pjod: it's funny you would ask why my brother was with my parents. I asked him the next day why he left me alone and he said he had a nightmare. When I asked what the nightmare was about, he said he dreamed there was a ghost in the closet. That freaked me out even more. Scared
Hobbyholly: My parents still live in this house but my brothers and I have all moved out. When we all still lived there we would frequently hear footsteps in the hallway at night. It was never threatening or scary but certainly a mystery. The next day when we discussed it there was never anyone up walking around when the footsteps were heard. And yes, we do still have the toy box. Unfortunately it has been moved outside to the back patio. It is used to store yard work equipment and is really in disrepair.

darkin31: I think you might be a little confused about what's happening to you. Night Terrors is a diagnosable condition, where what you're describing sounds like recurring nightmares. Also if you had Night Terrors this would be happening all the time, not so infrequently. I'm not saying what's happening to you isn't scary. I had recurring dreams myself when I was younger and they are etched into my mind. Scared
Ghost story: Uneasy Feeling
Date: 2009-11-02
That is truly frightening! But you must remember not to let the negative feelings win you over. If you are sad or afraid I think things will not improve. Try your hardest to be strong and happy, and these things will hopefully go away. Good luck to you! Happy

Wow I read your story twice in disbelief. Probably the creepiest encounter I have read about on this site. I could hardy believe what you were saying!
Based on what you said your brother seems to be experiencing a bit of self doubt as to what he believes and doesn't believe. If he's a stand up guy who's into law enforcement chances are he doesn't fall for stupid tricks or pranks. He must be fairly intelligent. Maybe you should sit down with him and talk to him about it. Maybe he'll come clean about something he's been reluctant to talk about in the past, like an encounter he's been keeping secret. Sometimes when people see things they can't explain they refuse to believe it, to the point of keeping it to themselves and never speaking of it to anyone. It might make him feel better to tell someone that will believe him, which would have to be you, because you know he's telling the truth. Good luck man, and Happy Halloween.

Wow that is pretty scary! How startled were you to learn a girl died in that house? Have you tried to communicate with her? Scared
Ghost story: School Hauntings 2
Date: 2009-10-31
Ariel, I am not sure if you should chalk this one up to ghosts right away. You should think logically about why it might have happened. You said Sam slammed the door once, so maybe it had a little lingering momentum and was able to slam once more on its own. Or maybe it was one of the others with you. The hand dryer going off probably sent you over the edge because you were already a little freaked out. I understand that completely. Looking at your history with the creepy toilets, I can see why you were freaked out to begin with. That is just a spooky place. Hopefully you will post again and share a little more with us, if you have any more stories to tell. Surprised

Ariel this experience is frightening. I am disappointed in Miss Z for being so hasty and deleting your evidence of a bizarre encounter! Sounds like she was trying to hide something from you, eh? Despite your time limit your story is very well-written. Wink
Ghost story: The Graveyard

That story will haunt me for awhile... Thanks for sharing. Good writing.

AussieRedDog: Thanks, it stills scares me when I think about it. I really was too afraid to go down there when the music was playing. I kind of wish I had. What do you mean the cellars? (sorry American ignorance) Confused

JamesRobiscoe: Ha ha, you didn't sound pretentious or like a wise guy. I wasn't being sarcastic or anything like that in my response. I probably could've been more clear about my beliefs to begin with. I base a lot of what I believe on science as the senses can be easily fooled. I try to look from every angle to figure out what has caused the event in question before I look to the paranormal as an explanation. That's all I meant. As for your question, I have encountered a few other strange things in my life for which I have no explanation. I am submitting another story today which (I hope) will be published within the next couple days. Look for it! It'll be called "Toybox" if the title isn't taken. Happy
