I've had the same sort of thing, black figures, one of which I have seen twice. What made them go away was praying. Some people may say that they are harmless since they never harm you but there is still something sinister about waking up to find one looking at you in your sleep. I would recommend talking to a priest.

My wife used to get "sleep paralysis" before we were married and when I would go off to Iraq. When I am home she doesn't have it. I suspect there is no coincidence in this. If it is purely a medical condition then why doesn't it happen all the time? I suspect that it is at least partially supernatural. Contact a priest.

My wife had "sleep paralysis" until we got married. When I'm around it doesn't happen, but when I'm gone it does. This makes me suspicious that "sleep paralysis" may still have a supernatural origin sometimes. My answer to anything like this is call a priest.
