Great Grandma Felt Much Better After Death on 2007-05-02

This is really my mother's story, but she's told it to me over and over, so I know it well. This took place in Mulberry Grove, Illinois. My mother was named after her own grandma and loved her very much (she was my great-grandma, obviously, though I never knew her. This happened before I was born). ...

Phone Call From Beyond on 2007-04-30

I had a friend, Carol, who was dying of cancer. Her husband called to tell me she was in hospice - meaning the end was very close. I couldn't go to visit her because my car was out of commission, and also because I knew that I'd cry and Carol wouldn't like that. So I just stayed home and cried off a...

I am not quite convinced that anyone was building "mansions" in Ohio in the 1600s. Ohio was called "the Northwest Territory" for quite some time and during the early 1800s, European settlers came into many areas to cut down the trees, kill a lot of animals, and start farming. (Some of these were my ancestors.) So...
I wonder whether you might have read a book called "Red House", about an old house in New England that really IS haunted (though not with such bloody ghosts)?

I am a little confused. Do you "listen to music" all night while you are asleep? Are you sleeping with earphones on?
I don't think it's a good idea to do that. I don't mean because it would attract spirits (though look at your story), but because it would disturb your sleep.
At least part of what is happening to you is that you have created an abnormal sleep situation and I suspect that it has altered your dream/waking pattern rather badly.
If it were me, I would listen to religious music or chants BEFORE bed and have them echoing in my head at bedtime, rather than playing music during sleep. In fact, I do that sometimes because I want the blessing and the mental effect. (FYI, the ones I happen to like are sung Sanskrit prayers.) I hope my ideas don't seem to weird to you. I suspect you are listening to music at night because you are feeling anxious to begin with.
Ghost story: Ghost Rat
Date: 2007-05-02
I agree with E. Angel. Okay! John's rat came back for another spin! I believe him. I had a cat that made one last dawn foray into my bedroom - AFTER she was dead. These things happen. I don't like to see people carrying on in the comments with all those accusations and tales of what I can only view as loosely-held sanity -- though I can see how a site like this would attract that sort of thing.
Ghost story: Ellie's Visitation
Date: 2007-05-02
I'm wondering -- could the man have been the father of Lynne and Ellie? A generation isn't a long time in the context of eternity...
Ghost story: Diana

I received a phone call from a friend after she died too. See my posting called "Phone Call From Beyond". And this wasn't even a really close friend, in my case.
So I guess it happens!

Hi, Jessica. You know what...it's possible that some of these ghosts are your mom (or dad). There is a phenomenon known in Norway as "the vardoger" (the forerunner), and I have experienced it myself (in the U.S.). What made me think of this was your experience of hearing the sounds of your mum's arrival and then finding she wasn't there. By chance did she arrive in person soon afterward?
My example from my life: my daughter used to stay out very late (still does, but is grown up now). I couldn't sleep until she came home. I would hear her car pull up and park, and the door lock and the door opening, and then...nothing. She wouldn't be there. A couple of minutes later, I would hear the car again, but this time she WOULD be there!
Those of us who perceive this are more sensitive than average. I suggest you consider it a gift, and look for ways to make yourself spiritually strong and confident so things won't scare you so much. Meditation, yoga, and so forth - for instance.
