About me:
hobbyholly's pictureI'm interested in Illinois haunts. I've lived in the Quad City area, the City of Chicago (miss it) and currently reside in the western suburbs. If anyone out there has stories that occurred in those places, I'd enjoy hearing them. I believe my childhood home was haunted. It has been torn down... But I would still like to know the history of the land.

Other than that I have normal interests. I enjoy reading, Making a mean cup of coffee, modern dance, good friends and a cold miller high life.

ALSO: For the LOVE OF GOD, USE SPELL CHECK when submitting a story. Hell, type your story in a word document. Then copy and paste. I can't tell you how annoying it is to read some of these stories due to poor grammar and spelling. When you spell things wrong or don't write a cohesive story, it makes it 1. Hard to read 2. Hard to take seriously.

SAME GOES FOR POSTERS: Don't try to be cute and spell "you"-"u" or "be"-"b" or "Scary"-"Scarii". You look uneducated. Spelling and grammar is a good thing to keep on top of. It hurts my eyes to read things like "iff" and half spelled "his".

I also don't buy the excuse "I'm not good at typing/spelling". It is called spell check. I believe some computers offer a "grammar check" if you will. Seriously... It is very annoying. Don't tell me "some people type like ths nowa daze cos it eazer thn typn out each wrd". If you don't have time to type out complete words/sentences...don't bother typing anything at all.

Ghost In The Machine on 2009-09-28

A few interesting things have been occurring in my home the past month or so. If you are not familiar with my home, I suggest reading my two previous accounts. Victorian Flat Two and Victorian Flat Three. With that said: In August I noticed some strange things happening here. Currently my fiancé ...

The Ambassador East Hotel on 2009-05-26

In honor of my friend's 25th birthday, I thought I'd share a quick story. My friend Sean and I are originally from Chicago. However I currently live in the suburbs and he in New York. About every 2 months he comes home for a long weekend. Normally he'll rent a hotel room in the city for a Saturda...

Easter Visit on 2009-03-18

I think this will be one of my last stories on here. Things on this site don't seem the same. Maybe I need a break for a while. Plus I miss some old posters that I don't see anymore. With that said, this isn't a gloom and doom scary story. It is not grand. I didn't play with an Ouija board or see...

The Stone Cold Kid on 2009-01-26

I've shared my experiences that occurred in my childhood home in Lisle, IL. Ghost Farmer and Ghost Farmer two. Yet, after all these years there has been an incident that has stuck with me more than the 'farmer" or anything else. It may not be paranormal, but just recalling it makes me wonder. Som...

Victorian Flat 3 on 2008-12-17

I had something interesting happen here over the weekend. As posted in "Victorian Flat Two" I have moved to a new apartment. If you haven't read it, I suggest you do so. It gives background on where I live and what has happened so far. My parents have a cat named Phillip. He actually is "mine" bu...

Victorian Flat 2 on 2008-12-08

Some background info: My fiancée and I have moved out of a complex and now into an old Victorian home. In a previous post I wrote about seeing a "boy in a cape". The last few weeks of living there I didn't see him. With the stress of moving and the rental company being jerks, I didn't see him or I ...

We Were Here on 2008-10-15

This is a story my father told me while looking though old family photos a few weekends ago. It may or may not have relevance to this site, but I thought I would share. A little background: My father comes from a family you can count on your two hands. My grandparents, My father, My aunt, My grea...

Boy In A Cape on 2008-09-17

I have this weird thing going on along with the "pokes" at night. For about two weeks now, I feel or see something in our apartment hallway. It doesn't matter if my fiancée is home or not, I see this figure standing at the end of the hallway by our bedroom entrance. The figure is white or light i...

Pokes In The Night on 2008-09-08

I just wanted to know if anyone else has had something like this happen: I have felt a "poke" on my shoulder at night, in bed. I share a one-bedroom apartment with my fiance'. It has happened about 5 times so far. Not in a row however. I'm awake when this happens. The latest was last night. I got...

Ghost Farmer 2 on 2008-08-25

I have posted before about the "farmer" I often saw in my backyard. I just thought I'd mention a few more things that took place while growing up. 1. Most fathers have their "favorite chair." My dad was no exception. It was this old chair from the 70's. It rocked back and forth. It also swiveled....

Ghost Farmer on 2008-05-27

I grew up in Lisle, IL. It is a smaller suburb compared to Naperville and other surrounding burbs. In the 30s it was a farming community. My grandparents, like most of the growing community members, had a house built during the 50s. My parents and I moved in with them around 1984, when I was an infa...

Trudy

Thank you for sharing. I had a similar experience. I was engaged to be married, we broke up. Fast forward 3 years later. A few months before I was to be married, I was having dreams about a little boy that looked like my ex. He would each out to me and cry calling my mommy. In my dream I would hold him and tell him I'm sorry. Then I'd wake up feeling awful.

I'm happy to report I'm married now and those dreams have stopped

1. Well written. Thank you for actually knowing the house you reside in.

2. I believe it's the father "haunting" the home.

3. I live in Chicago. It took me two years to find a job. I totally feel your pain

4. Keep us posted

Interesting account.

Where in IL did this take place? (I reside in Illinois and enjoy accounts from there). Did you ever mention this to anyone in the building?

"I went to the hospital with some major medical problems on 3/24/2010."

Were you diagnosed with something? I'm assuming doctors ran some sort of tests/blood work. Did your fiance' take you to the hospital? (I'm assuming he found you unconscious) Did you explain to the medical staff about the scratches you've been getting?

I just think before we jump to demons/spirits/ghosts we (the posters) need a better idea of what medically is going on (while respecting your privacy) with you

err well this could be tedious but perhaps looking through old newspaper clippings (a la the library) for accidents on that stretch.

If you do venture out with your co-worker friend be careful. Make sure you're not trespassing or something. Keep us posted if anything new happens

Also:
Just for giggles I googled "Ship Creek, Alaska, hauntings". It took me to the ever so popular Shadowlands website. Under Anchorage they do list a "haunting" for Ship Creek.

Although it doesn't match your story, I thought you might be interested.

Here is the link: http://theshadowlands.net/places/alaska.htm

First: refreshing story. Going to the favorites.

Have you seen this man again? Do you think he once worked at the Steam power plant? Or was involved with the military base you mentioned?

Common sense would say it is some very lucky person crossing traffic. But I'm going against my common sense and say possibly paranormal.

I guess you could look up if there were any accidents in that area (although that would take quite the research).

Before I get into the paranormal explanations/questions, Have you got any counseling for the abusive boyfriend experience?

Today's merchandise isn't the Lisa Frank I grew up with. Now they have these "Bratz" like girls...

Sorry everyone. Didn't mean to get off topic

I know the sea shell thing you're talking about. My great-grandmother had a few. They're ugly enough to scare anyone.

All jokes aside thanks for sharing.

Clearly something happened there (either something gruesome or mold issues) that someone needed to mask a smell.

I too look forward to pictures.

Side Note: You have me worried about my fond memories of Lisa Frank. Then again I remember the "early Lisa Frank" when I was a kid during the early 90s. Hehe

In one of your previous stories you said that an old woman named "Iris" had died in the house? Did you ever find out how she died? Was she related?

"I sat outside until 7:00 when the first Pokémon woke up I went in. "

Pokemon? Sorry a little confused about that...

I google searched the Hotel. It seems to be near Fort William which has an interesting history. Maybe there might be a connection?
Ghost story: The Voice Of Her

In regards to the nurse like figure. It could be possible that the doctor that lived there also practiced out of the home. An old house (converted into 2 apartments) I resided in had a lawyer that lived/practiced out of there

Crap.
Sorry for the "move out" comment I just posted. It's too early for me at the moment.

Okay so you can't move out because I'm assuming you're caring for your sick family members.

Still I would stay focused on positive things and what hopefully will be a productive future.
Date: 2010-04-02
It just sounds like you're dealing with a stressful environment. I would really try to move out and on. Save up your money (city jobs USUALLY pay well) and move out. Put the paranormal aside (which is TBD). It sounds like you're on the right path... Counseling and a job.

I also think other posters (including myself) needed a better grasp of what the issue was with your mother.

Best of Luck
Date: 2010-04-01
I too second Vulcan & D.A. If things are really awful why not move? Or try to find other living arrangements? I know easier said then done.

Honestly it sounds like you have more pressing issues at the moment.

I don't know the age of the house you're in...

It could be pipes. It could be expansion and contraction of building materials used in the construction of the house. When the air cools down the building seems to shrink slightly.

Could be a water heater. Furnace...

I don't know what exact problems you have with your mother. I also don't know how old you are. BUT: I think it might be a good idea to talk to her (the best you can) and try to come to some kind of resolution or agreement on whatever the problem is. In the mean time keep focused on positive things. Are you in school? College? Do you work? Have a certain hobby? Keep focused on those and whatever you may benefit from them in the future.
