Odd Rustling Sound on 2016-04-27

This just happened to me last weekend. I was at my aunt's house watching her two dogs for her while she and her husband went out of town. They have a little short-legged yellowish dog named Hazel, and a fat old spaniel named Henry. I was sleeping in my aunt's room when around midnight I heard Ha...

A Curse On Our Home on 2015-05-18

My mom is a single parent who doesn't earn much money, so she was thrilled to be able to finally afford a new house for the three of us. We did notice some odd things about the house as we moved in. The third bedroom, my younger sister's room, had four different locks inside its door and glow-in-the...

What Attacked Tim? on 2015-05-14

Generations of my family have spent their summer vacations at our old adobe cabin in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. It is in a tiny secluded valley we fondly call Valley Jo, where two rivers and three mountains all come together. Once in a while when we you are sitting out on the porch at nig...

Mom's Forest Demon on 2015-05-12

This story happened when I was a teenager to my mother, not me, but I was there to see how it affected her. My mom, who was becoming Catholic at the time, saved up her money and flew to Minnesota to attend a Catholic conference. It was autumn and the leaves in Minnesota were changing beautifully,...

I have an update to this story. I watched my aunts house this past week, and last night I heard the sound again. I was sleeping in the master bedroom with the dogs. Henry was in a dog bed on the floor, Hazel was inconveniently tucked behind my knees, and my own dog, a black pit bull named Friday, was next to me. I woke up suddenly because Hazel for some stupid reason licked the side of my bum. I am usually careful how I use the name of God, but being startled out of sleep I blurted "oh God," and tried to kick Hazel out of bed. She is stubborn and would not be moved, and I was too tired to struggle with her so I just rolled over and tried to go back to sleep.

That's when I heard three rapid knocks on the wall opposite the bed. The dogs usually bark like mad whenever someone knocks, but they weren't bothered, so I figured it must have been the pipes or something. Then I heard the rustling plastic sound again. My aunt told me I am probably hearing the water in her pool splashing, but the pool pump was not running, and the sound clearly came from inside the house. It doesn't sound like the ice maker, or the air conditioning, or anything other than a plastic grocery sack being intentionally shaken.

I prayed for safety and just in case it was a human soul I prayed for their repose. Then I heard a sad voice, like an old lady saying something in a sighing way, but I didn't understand what was said. Well, at that point I was done lying in the dark listening for sounds! I turned on the light and the TV and stayed awake as long as I could. The dogs never did notice anything this time.

I really enjoyed this story. I didn't have any problem understanding it. I like the idea of some weird little troll guy just being curious about what you were doing in the tent. Of course if it happened to me I would have probably peed myself to death out of pure fear, LOL.

I like what Tweed said about it being a "symbolic performance". My understanding of spirits is that they often appear to us in order to ask for help (prayer) so they can move to the next realm. The transition can take much longer without the potent prayers of the living to speed things along. The opportunity to show themselves tends to be brief, either because it uses a lot of their energy, or because we generally get instantly scared and shut our eyes or run away. So they make the most of that moment by using symbolism to say what needs to be said.

She wanted you to know she was a girl who loved ballet during life, so she appeared to you dancing in a ballerina outfit, and she also wanted you to know that she was shot, so she showed you that as well. I don't think it has to mean that she was dancing around when she died. You were then able to use the details she gave you to later verify that she was a person who did exist, and not just something you imagined. Knowing that allows you to take her seriously, and possibly give her the help she requires. That is my take on your story.

Oh, I missed one of your questions. We always had felt tense on the stairs at night without admitting it to each other. Once I had that dream about a rapist on the stairs and found out that there really WAS a rape, it felt like our fear was legitimate, not just something we both separately had imagined.

Hi Rook, I had never heard of a stress induced spirit, that is an interesting concept. We lived there from when I was 19 through 26, and my sister was 9 through 16, so she did hit puberty during that time.

The man who gave us the death threat was an electrician. He only came into the house once, when we were moving in and he carried in a heavy steel filing cabinet for us. I don't think he directly tampered with the insulation, but that would have been pretty clever if he had. Killing people slowly through fiberglass inhalation - genius! Whatever protective layer the insulation had just fallen off it seems, letting it disintegrate into the air whenever the A/C blew across it.

As far as the turd underneath the carpets... How did we not notice that for the first three or four years we lived there? That was an odd discovery, whether it was part of a curse or not!

OK, thank you for explaining it for me. I will try to be more careful.

I don't understand what was wrong with the story I told, it was my dad who told it to me, and it really did happen to him. But if it seemed like an urban legend to you, than I'm sorry. I'm frightened speak now.

Whoops, didn't mean to befuddle or piss off anybody. Like I said, I have a mason in my family too. I was just sharing my view of that subject. I didn't realize it was so touchy. Everybody calm down, LOL.

Did the baby get baptized? That would be my first thought if something spiritual was messing with a baby. The traditional baptism contains an exorcism, and that would scare off anything that may have wanted to harm the baby.

I don't know what your religion is, though. Its actually better not to baptize unless you are some kind of christian religion.

I hope that doesn't sound preachy, I'm just commenting from the only perspective I have. I try to be careful with my words.

To Trischa_D: Oh, I hadn't thought about him being an "outsider". If that's true it would point to the glob being someone from my family. But why did I feel so stared down? I guess what I felt could have been something else besides the glob.

I hope after you die you get to look back at your life and see the answers to all the questions you had. These weird happenings must have reasons behind them.

To Wish-Not: I did go and read a bit about the Marfa lights, you are right they do seem similar, except for the noise I have described as "whirring". My great uncle Don, who is the person who spends the most time alone in our valley, says they can sometimes sound like an animal, a machine, or a child.

To Wish-Not: I read your Sophie story, you did a good job! I felt sympathy for the little dog, I'm glad she has you looking out for her.

To Mike: I know his son who lived at his house was a Satanist, but I can't say for sure that the father was. I only know that my mom for some reason firmly believed him to be possessed.

We actually did buy a weapon. I forgot to say that. It was a 357 Magnum, which is waaay more gun than we needed. I doubt any of us could have fired it without being knocked backwards! The gun was one of the many items that strangely disappeared. We never found it.

Sigh. I'm sorry for the way this one rambles. It wasn't easy to fit everything that happened at that house into one story. Even as long as it turned out, I had to leave out some events. Things that were stolen or broken during our bad luck storm. I did try to stick to the more paranormal seeming occurrences. Be gentle with me, readers...

To Mike: We seem to have similar views. It is consoling to know that the team we're on is guaranteed to win in the end!

To Tweed: when you said oppressing our carnal human urges, I couldn't help imagining it as if we're like tubes of toothpaste. The harder you squeeze your carnal human urges in, the more likely they are to splatter out. Ha ha!

That's very nice of you dear. Yes, she is doing much better now.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I have never heard of Marfa lights before, I'll have to look that up now!

Thank you for your observation, I think it is possible that psychology played a role, but I also think spirits are real. That makes it difficult for for me to say for sure how much of it was spiritual, and how much may have been mental. I do know that people are more susceptible to these sorts of problems any time they try to advance spiritually.

I have had dirty thoughts pop into my head before while trying to pray, it is frustrating. One thing that helps is to look for a geometric shape or pattern somewhere nearby, and keep your eyes on that while you pray.
