What Stopped Me? on 2016-04-19

In my first story (Under Edinburgh), I gave a brief description of the illness from which I suffer. For you to analyse this story fully, I feel that I need to give you a deeper understanding of my health problems, so please bear with me. At 13 I started suffering from depression after my parents...

I have always been brought up to believe in ghosts. My mother is quite open minded and has had many paranormal encounters herself. My mother, brother and I are all convinced that the house that my brother and I grew up in is haunted. Items flying from shelves, electronics turning themselves on and t...

I agree that kids are definitely more intuitive when it comes to the supernatural! Of course the kid's imagination is always a possibility but being that you and you sister witnessed events there, I would have been creeped the hell out too!
There is a post on reddit about the creepiest things a child has said to their parent, you should look it up!

Hey Zander,

If you get a chance, go! It is a beautiful city! Which is saying something as I am a true country girl and not normally a fan of cities!

It has been suggested to me a few times that maybe I am sensitive to spirits, ghosts or the paranormal in general and that is why I see and hear things. Modern medicine most certainly disagrees and are currently looking at putting me on more medication!

I have been quite lucky so far in as much as my only serious side effect is that I could sleep forever if I was allowed too! I don't remember the last time I felt awake, but hey, it could be worse!

I have a few more stories to share and it will be interesting for me to see whether the general consensus is paranormal or the state of my mental health.

Hi Tweed,

Thanks for your input, I've has quite a few experiences which I'm not sure are paranormal or just a result of my health, I'll get round to writing another soon, hopefully!

Hi Red,

At home I have a cat but I am currently based in Egypt on a camp. I have borrowed their dog or cat a time or two though haha! I will aim to get a dog one day but I am traveling a fair bit at the moment and I wouldn't have time for the poor thing!

Hi Dandk,

For B12 I take daily supplements just to be on the safe side but I do eat plenty of eggs and dairy too.

Hi Goggzy,

I would have been inclined to brush it off as the history or surroundings if it had occurred in more than the one room. It literally came on in seconds in that room and left as soon as I got through the door!

I have been lucky to travel to many historic places within the UK and other countries, some with more brutal histories yet I have not experienced anything like this at any of those sites?

I am hoping to return to Scotland towards the end of this year (the highlands and Scottish islands) but maybe I can revisit Edinburgh whilst I am there! It would be interesting to return to the vaults again!

Hi Mimi81, I am aware that there have been a lot of people have had paranormal experiences in the vaults but whether they felt exactly as I did, I do not know. Others have reported feeling like they are being touched just as I did, but I don't think many, if any have had their legs buckle as a result.

Hi DandK,

I did not return to the room as I was just following the guide, I feel that I should have done now though!

I have had numerous blood tests for various things as part of my treatment, all blood tests come back normal apart from the hormones which help regulate emotion i.e. Serotonin, which is to be expected with clinical depression.

I am a vegetarian (I don't like the taste of meat) so I am particularly careful with what I eat, I don't want to suffer from any deficiencies. I can't think of anything that I ate more than anything else I'm afraid.

Hi Calamity,

I am completely fine with answering your questions, hopefully my answers are helpful.

This experience was the only time I have felt something tactile, I have never suffered with tactile sensations as a result of my illness.

I do experience physical symptoms such as nausea and headaches but only when my anxiety (come part of the package with my illness) flares up. I can assure you that I had no feelings of anxiety at the time and am always aware of the warning signs that appear before I suffer with it. I had no such warning that day so I am convinced it was not anxiety related.

I would say that I am strong minded so it is hard for me to bow to the idea of suggestion. However, when I was 21 and still suffering, things would appear to me that I had read about or watched, for example after reading a murder story I would see dead bodies, or after watching 'The woman in black', I would see her standing beside my bed.

I had suffered with normal depression since 13 so was already displaying the symptoms usually associated with depression. The psychotic symptoms certainly did not appear until after I turned 19.

I never felt scared of my experiences at my home bar a couple of times (including a time my brother and I barricaded ourselves in his bedroom and refused to come out until my mother returned haha) so the feeling in Edinburgh was completely different. AT home I was always aware that someone (Charlie) was there, the feeling in Edinburgh came on very quickly and left just as quickly once I had left the room.

Hope that helps?

Notadaddysgirl, I might try that but I am living in Egypt for the next 5 months so it will have to wait haha!
