I am 25 years old and I have had experiences of sleep paralysis since I was about 11. Only recently have these experiences started to truly scare me because now I have seen a figure and heard a voice. Normally, I don't hear or see anything but only feel a presence. During these experiences, I have learned techniques on how to wake myself up or try and control the situation.

It is my personal belief that when you are in this situation, your mind is in a place that most humans are not supposed to go. It can awaken strange spiritual phenomena, just ask anyone else who has had these experiences. Science has tried to explain this in basic terms of what is happening to your body, basically your mind is awake before your body is physically awake. That means you feel trapped in your own dreams, or body. However, science has not found the reason why so many people experience this at least once in their lives, and it has not accounted for how this has happened to humans in all cultures, and in most cultures it is seen as a demonic force.

I am a pretty practical person, I try to be realistic as possible but I have had some strange paranormal experiences in my life. When I was young, I sometimes would catch glimpses of someone there with me but I would attribute it to my imagination. Now that I am older, I realize that some of those memories where probably not products of my imagination because the person was too vivid.

If anyone has had these kinds of experiences, I welcome emails but I must warn you, I am not a religious person so please respect my choice.

Strange Voice on 2008-10-28

I had a strange case of sleep paralysis today. I know what the symptoms are and I know when it is happening to me but something was very different about today's experience. I was lying down on my stomach in my bed and I felt my body being filled with a buzzing static. Since I couldn't move I was jus...

Black Figure on 2008-09-18

I have had episodes of sleep paralysis since I was young, but today I had an episode that I do not understand. I felt like I was lying in my bed and couldn't talk or move. Since this has happened to me many times, I know how to deal with this a little better. I always feel as if there is a presen...

whitebuffalo, I attributed this experience to sleep paralysis but it was in fact very different from what usually happens to me when I have sleep paralysis. It's almost against the rules for anything to speak to me or call me by name in that state, normally, I do not see anything. This dream has been bothering me for awhile now but other people said that it sounds like extra terrestrial life which is not what I had first thought but I could see where they are getting that. The child's voice seemed different from the static voice which told me I was going to die. I just have a hard time understanding the point of this because it has truly shaken me up. Yes, I know I am going to die someday, but perhaps I had to be scared into living a more purposeful life?
I also recently had some experiences where I saw a black figure and also heard a voice. I think you might have had an out of body experience. Your physical body may have still been in bed, but perhaps your soul moved out of it. Trust me, if it is not your time to go, usually there is something that will not let you escape your body. Black figures are not always bad and might be trying to protect you, as scary as they might seem.
Wow, I don't know how you could stay calm in a situation like that. I guess you have a good sense of mental balance because I would go crazy and run out of the house screaming if anything appeared in the shower with me.

I feel like in a way, the voice is not wrong in telling me that I am going to die, I know that I will someday. I just wish I didn't have to hear it when I feel incredibly vulnerable. 😢
I just had an experience like this. It definetly sounds like sleep paralysis but I think that you can experience things in that state of mind that are paranormal and really scary. Did you have your feet to the mirror? I know that it's bad luck to have your bed facing a doorway because its like a coffin being sent out or something like that.

I don't think black figures are always bad. Were you sleeping when this happened? And were you hurt by it?

I am pretty sure that I was not sleepwalking. I have had episodes of sleep paralysis for years now but this was the first time I had ever seen a figure and see its actions. I do believe that being in a state of being where your body is asleep but your mind is awake is scary because your mind isn't supposed to be alert like that.

Thanks for your input, I think that maybe I should have not been afraid but I felt like I was trapped in my room and in this surreal dream. Upon reflection, I think that maybe it was trying to help me. I have never tried talking to whatever I feel present when I have these sorts of episodes. They are not always pleasant, I don't always feel as though the presences in the room are there to help me. Sometimes I feel like I am being choked. I know that this fits the description of sleep paralysis but this has been happening to humans for a long time, and in all cultures, it is seen as a demon trying to hurt you in your sleep.
