No Jack, you grow up! You don't appreciate the comments? Tough! That's the roll of the dice you took when you put your experience up for scrutiny. And it's what you got, scrutinized. You keep adding to what your original story held is one thing, but changing the original story to match what others have experienced is quite another. You can down vote my comments all day, it means nothing to me. However, it does say a lot about yourself.

I add an experience to a website basically to see if anyone had any light to share on what occurred and you have the cheek to call me an alarmist

I wasn't aware some of you felt the need to run through my post with a fine tooth comb so I stuck to what I felt was important at the time - that being something that felt like it attacked when I was sleeping and wouldn't let me go of my own free will and what I think It looked like, I wanted to see if anyone else had exp something similar.

AND DO YOU KNOW WHAT... Theres a tonne of stories just like mine which in itself is a little worrying...

I really don't care what the 3 of you have going on but take it elsewhere and the +1 ing of each others comments? Grow up!

Well Jack,
That brings us back to you being an alarmist. Making matters seem much worse than they are just to gain attention. You keep changing your story to match other peoples stories. Now, do you know what that makes you?
You should care what others think about your story Jack. It's what gives you credibility here. You don't get that just because you stomp your feet and insist. It comes from what you put forward as being the truth. You see, we are all about the truth of the story Jack, not the best liar.

Jack,
So, as I said... Limited info, limited diagnosis. I don't think most of the people submitting stories are dreaming their experiences... But you said yours was. Suddenly you add that this being was at the end of your bed when you awoke? Didn't think that was relevant when you submitted your story? I have found that when stories get more elaborate after the initial submission, they are usually crap.
I am sure you will not deem my comment as "helpful"... Which is fine, because this time it wasn't meant to be. As many can attest on this site, feel lucky you caught me on a good day... Because quite frankly, your story is weak and your attitude sucks.

Best of luck to your roommate, my condolences to your partner.

ngute,
Don't worry about it. I know who it is, and she is just being petty as always. And yes, you could classify her as a troll as well. Don't let it bother you, I don't. Look at my karma points, do you think one point up or down is going to make an inch of difference to me? Nope. They can take them all for all I care about them. I just don't like it when others get voted down when they should have been voted up. But thank you for noticing, that is nice. ❤

I don't understand why Jav keeps getting voted down. The trolls need to find something better to do. I tried to vote you up Jav but it wouldn't let me.

Hear it is, hope the lady doesn't mind me stealing it.

To recap: this thing in my opinion "attacked" as I slept and praying seemed to be the only thing that stopped it... It fought with me to stop me getting the words out, kept kind of muddling my brain so I'd forget the words (I know it off by heart) ... Woke then and saw it and turned on a light... It was gone but I never lost that feeling that I was being watched... 2 hours later something told me to wake up (that kind of a your late for work panic waking up) and that feeling of dread washed over me again, that the thing was there just 4 feet away from me, watching me.

I was asleep yeah, I guess you could call it a lucid dream - I saw myself sleeping, herself beside me and weird black man thing lurching over me " going for me " as I said.

I swear I saw him at the end of my bed when I woke up and it was just staring right back at me

There's a girl on this who put up a drawing of something she saw in her room one night, i'l try find it and post it - I'm not saying its the same but I can't see much difference.

Calm down Jack. You are the one making the noise here. You don't want to admit it was a dream? Too late for that. You don't get to choose the kind of feedback you get, but if you insist on dragging it out, you may find that we are able to accommodate you there. Simple as that Jack. No big deal.

I'm not being hostile, I'm stating my opinion... Just as someone else did when they used the word a'ss hat.

But really now, someone with a paranormal " C.V. " hinting at a possible gay bashing spirit... For god's sake!

And questioning my gratitude? I've been most thankful to everyone who's had something helpful to say... Look at Queenzombies comments - now people THAT is what you call helpful And Rook for her cleansing ritual. All I am after is pro active helpful advice, not the international difference between partner and same sex couple!

As for the use of the word 'partner'? Here in the states, that is commonly meant to denote a same sex couples relationship to each other. How do I know this? My daughter is in a relationship with her partner.

Excuse me Jack, but let's just try sticking to the truth here, huh? These are your words, not ours.

"I would say I was asleep about 2 hours when my dream state seemed to get taken over"

"Then I woke with a bang, definite in the knowledge of what just happened and that I had been in a dream"

No matter how you interpret it, the matter still remains the same, it was a dream. You were offered advice, you scoffed at the advice.
I called the situation for what I saw it to be, and you don't like that.

Jack why so hostile? You submitted your story and asked for advice and that's exactly what you got. I don't see a reason for you to be angry or rude. Just like Jav said some of these people have an impressive background in the paranormal, and should be thanked for taking the time to comment on your story to try to help. And the term " partner" isn't very familiar to those of us in the U.S when referring to spouses/ ect. Some gratitude would be nice.

Again not in the least bit helpful

This is site must be full of dreamers by your estimate, I saw a lot of past stories last night from people who all share similar encounters.
The pattern I was seeing (and I'm sure others would too if they wanted to) is that For whatever personal reasons they weren't their usual happy selves, Stress etc was clearly stated. Now where I would take from that is that they were down in themselves, a little weaker willed at the time and that made them prey, you could go the opposite way and say it was a manifestation of their problems and stress fair enough point too... But the stories are all identical - A large black shadow presence, huge percentage in favour of calling it male, came to them while they were sleeping and nearly all say intruding and menacing.

I for one did NOT want to take this seriously and would have loved to say it was a bad dream, but as far as I am concerned it wasn't!

Jack,
I am more than willing to admit "I don't know Jack", and since Jack only gave us barely four paragraphs to "Help him", analysis and interpretation are pretty much the only tools we have to try to decipher whatever it is you think you are going through. If you came here for help, then share your most recent experiences... You claim you have now talked to it and are trying to overcome your fear of it, which implies you have additional experiences which were fear provoking.
As for the misunderstanding with the word "partner" and the tangent I ran with; no offense intended. If you have not had additional experiences, I would suspect that you simply had a dream and your housemate experienced sleep paralysis. I do not feel they were a coincidence, I do feel they were related... Our minds are mysterious machines and how both of yours went down the same path will likely never be known.

No I appreciate the help but analysing the hell out of one of my replies is pointless and extremely frustrating...

The term partner instead of long term girlfriend really causing that much confusion?

Where as what I needed was advice, such as a house cleansing exercise - did it

Talking to the thing, telling it your not afraid of it and its time for it to move on - did it (felt like an idiot but still)

Don't fear it any more - I'm getting there on that one

Jack86,
You wouldn't be speaking to me, would you Jack? I am the only one who has commented since your last comment, therefore, I will assume that you are. How's about you take a stab at answering my questions Jack? I see them as well thought out, unlike your story and the replies you have given to well meaning members who were simply trying to lend a hand.
Here's a hint Jack, perhaps you might take a few minute and check into those folks you have so rudely dismissed. You just may find they have some pretty impressive backgrounds when it comes to dealing with the paranormal. Coming here and acting like an asshat to them may not have been your best decision. Eh, Jack?

Really gone a bit overboard with the over analysing there people, if it was the least bit helpful I would gladly split hairs.

You could focus attention to the fact that a jet black figure seemed to attack me as I slept and the next day without even mentioning to my house mate she tells me about her noises that sounded like a man in her room... My guess is it was trying to frighten us, I have read here that some things feed on fear... It worked to a point, took measures and now hopefully its gone!

Okay, wait a second. I am confused about your living situation. In your original experience you call someone your "partner". But later on, in a comment, you then call this same person (I am assuming it is the same person) your "missus". Maybe that doesn't sound odd to others, but I refer to my husband as "my husband", never as "my partner". That threw me a little, but I'll survive. 😕 However, what really got my attention in this account was the fact that your experience was a dream, nothing more. Your "partner" telling you it was just your imagination seems odd as well. Wouldn't most people say "you were just dreaming" as a response to what you told them had occurred? And now this "housemate" has reported to have had a very eerie experience on that same night, correct? A man breathed on her and watched her as her "partner" slept. And now your partner/missus is seeing things as well? Talk abut a chain reaction! This guy is one busy son of a bee, huh?
I am going to have to think about this a bit, I feel there is something missing here, and I don't quite know what that is yet. 😕

Lou are are joking me right? A gay bashing ghost bashing the straightest man in Ireland, wait until I tell the missus... She's going to fall over laughing!

But as for the house itself, we're all just renting so we've no idea how old it is or who lived in it beforehand but the fact in itself that the house doesn't have a family/steady occupants living there says something.

And Rook I was looking through other peoples stories and If you got a dollar for everytime you shared that ritual lol... Thanks for the help:)

Queenzombie: yeah your right I'd say Sage is only a stopgap but hopefully I won't be there the next time that thing raises its head. I'l leave the next tenants a note haha

Interesting. Does your house have any death occurrences, or do you have any objects that may have a entity latched on? Also, people you may have used to be close to or an old relationship may have been negative, and somewhat possessed. Think back to your history and consider any little thing that may have made something latch on to you. Hope this helps 😊

Queenzombie,
My interpretaion of the events as described, and I will leave it to the O/P to correct me, is that in both instances the individuals experiencing the events felt threatened. So whoever it is, is upset about something... What that is, I can and did only guess at.
Like you said, living or dead, they don't get to harass folks with regards to their life choices; and should be treated the same way a living individual would be treated that chooses to behave this way.

Louslips: If this is a man watching them... And they do live an "alternate lifestyle" as you called it... He doesn't seem to have a problem with it. He sounds creepy and needs to be dealt with. We wouldn't allow someone alive to act in that manner, he should be no different. Right?

Good luck! Let us know what happens!

Jack86,
I'm not judging you in any way, but your use of the term partner instead of "he" or "she" leads me to believe you lead an alternative lifestyle. I have no qualms with this, you and everyone else should be allowed to live however they choose or see fit. But how would someone from 20, 40, 80, 150 years ago feel about it? Just like I am in no position to judge you, neither should they... But that does not mean they won't.
This sounds like an aggressive human spirit. Which if you have not dealt with before, can seem as bad as things get... But they are not. Fear is their ultimate weapon, and although it is easier said than done, you need to take that out of their arsenal. Try Rook's cleansing method in conjunction with a concerted effort by ALL of the members of your home to drive this creep away. You ALL will need to declare together and openly that this is your home and it cannot stay, or can stay under the guidelines you set for it. Everyone has to be committed to this and everyone has to work to overcome the fear it will use to control this situation. Your actions need to get in its face, just like it is attempting to get in your's and your housemates'.
This may seem aggressive to some, but in my opinion, waiting for this thing to go away on its own is a mistake. You will only suffer more before you finally decide it is time to take back your home. I am not asking you to believe or understand everything I am trying to convey, but I have not only helped others in a similar situations, I have lived it.

Jack,

Try this...

Recipe for a Home Cleansing/Shielding... (allow for two or 3 days to complete)

Day one: Open all curtains window and doors with screens installed, let fresh air and sunshine into the home. Have all closets, cabinets and other 'dark spaces' open so that as much natural light as possible can enter those spaces. After 2-3 hours take a broom and 'sweep' out each room (this is symbolic and you do not have to really sweep) focus your thoughts on sweeping (pushing) out all negative energies / entities /thoughts. Close home up after completing each room of your home... Please do not forget your garage if you have one. (Optional) Light incense (sandalwood or Dragons-blood works well for me) and let aroma fill the home, and/or play a tape that contains your favorite Church/Positive, Upbeat (songs that give you good thoughts) songs before you begin sweeping.

Day two (or three): Once again open all curtains, windows and doors. Take a White candle (Optional) to the center most point of the home, sit on the floor and place candle in front of you. Light the candle (visualize a white ball of light) and then focus on the flame... Visualize the flame (white light) filled with positive thoughts, energy. (Say a prayer at this time if you so desire... Ask for cleansing positive energy to fill the candles flame/white light). Hold this 'image' in your mind and then visualize the flame (light) slowly expanding outward, visualize it filling the room your in, every corner and 'dark space'. Continue to visualize it expanding...it's outer edges pushing away (burning away) any and all negative energies/entities out and away from each room in your home. Once you have visualized this flame (light) filling your entire home, picture it expanding to your property lines. Hold this image in your mind for a few moments then visualize 'anchoring' this flame (light) where you are sitting which is the center most point of your home. Once you have done this. Take a deep breath, relax a few moments and then blow out the candle. (If you didn't use a candle just let yourself relax a moment or two.) "

Now you can create a shield for yourself using the 'home shield' technique but instead of focusing on your home visualize the 'flame' simply surrounding you instead of your home... Best time to do this is after a nice shower using a rosemary scented soap (rosemary is good for purification and protection.)

I use it for my Home and Family and others here on site have used it with good effects.

Respectfully,

Rook

Scary. So I googled some stuff on ghosts and sage and what not. It does cleanse the house to an extent. If its a lost soul or one just lingering in the house it can help a lot. BUT I did read that if it is something worse then sage won't do it. You may need to weigh the options of figuring out what is really in your house. I don't want to scare you but if there was a demon/jin in my house I would be doing everything possible to get rid of it. Although if the "demon" is haunting YOU and not the house it just may move with you but since your roomate is experiencing it too, chances are its an aggressive ghost. Try telling it that it is time to leave, light a white candle and do the sage thing again. Couldnt hurt right? (sorry for my bad grammar right now, I am at work multi-tasking)

Queenzombie - WORSE

My bro suffered a sleep paralysis episode one night and awoke out of it 100% sure that a boy and an older woman were in his room with him, the boy was sitting on his chest and just as the "mother" told the child to leave my brother be he regained movement.
So a few month's later I saw the kid and that was it I got sage burned it everywhere the spiritualist I went to for advice told me to and we've seen nothing since in our homeplace.
I did the same thing in my new house just before x-mas after I got a really bad feeling and then my housemate was sure someone was watching her when she was alone. Burned the sage and this is the first couple of incidents.

cause she didn't really want to believe it, simple as that... Who in their right mind would!

Now she thinks a black shadowy man was in with her in the same room last night when I wasn't there... That's twice in 3 days " something " has happened

Does it feel ghost like or something worse? I just ask because that will tell you how to handle whatever it is. However, either way it sounds aggressive. I would contact someone who can help cleanse the house or at least figure out what you are dealing with.

Sounds scary! There are things you can do to cleanse your house that might help. I'm sure Rook wouldn't mind sharing his cleansing recipe with you (sorry Rook 😉).
But I do have a question. Why did your partner tell you it was your imagination, but console your housemate?
