OK.

Well.

Uh, wow.

Nothing at all helpful here, but... Wow. So many questions, I would not no where to start. And given the helpful nature of your buyer, no answers either.

Hi Jan,

I apologize, I think my previous post may have caused some confusion. I did not think you were looking for sympathy at all. When I mentioned that your outlook and perspective is refreshing, I was referring to your belief in the afterlife and understanding that this life (right now in the physical body) is temporary. I feel there is so much more than 'this' or the here and now. I am also firm in my belief that we will be reunited with loved ones when it's time.

My mother passed away almost 17 years ago. I am lucky to have had some visitation dreams, proving to me that our soul is immortal. Not to mention the signs I know are from her. I have been blessed to sort of 'meet up' with her through astral projection/obe too. I won't go into detail as I'm not sure of your beliefs, but needless to say, I know my mother is 'kicking it up' on the other side and is with me. 😊

I definitely respect your thoughts, choices and confidence regarding your situation. My prayers would be for what is best for you and your family (whatever the outcome may be) and if need be, a smooth transition for you. When I mentioned healing, it can mean to limit any pain; physical, emotional, etc. I hope that makes sense.

I'm sorry if my previous comment was confusing, please know that wasn't my intention. ❤

Hello Dee,

Thank you for your note, and kindness. I truly am not looking for sympathy,

To help you understand, this is not a sad time but joyous in some ways. By nature I am a happy person, perhaps one who looks on the bright side. Not everyone gets to know by what will be their ending and even when. I do not know the when, but have been told the tummors must shrink in order to have surgery. I am to get a C-scan this Friday to see if they have. The cancer is stage four. The surgery would be 9-12 hours as it involves two other organs. I think I will refuse the surgery as it is too dangerous.

I started writing to YGS members as I hoped that when I do get to the other side, I am hoping to be able to communicate with certain YGS members or just one or two. I feel it is an ideal opertunity to send out information on what I see and have come to know. If I can.

I am not doing this for attention, but having life long experiances myself, I would like to play a part in solving some of our many open ended questions. If I can. That is all.

Please don't be sorry for me, I have had a wonderful life, still do for now. Many do not live to see 70 and be surounded with loving family and friends.

Yes RCR,
I have learned there is power in prayer, the more, the stronger. There are some things that are unchangeable, but I do fear pain, as I do feel small ripples of what will be much more harsh. I was lucky to have the many years past the time I wrote of the old tray. Ovarian Cancer is a killer, the cancer cells hide, coming back until it takes you. My own fault, I should have gone for check, but was foolish.

Hello all MODS!
Thank you so much for the well planned April fools joke!
The way a few short words can change the meaning of a sentence or paragraph,
Is surprising. What a great way to start the day.
My quick glance, lasted much longer, just reading my own comments. I would have to go back a long time to remember when I had laughed so hard and so long.
What a great start of the day!
To those who took offence: the submitted events where in no way changed, only the comments, for a very short time. Lighten up!
Thanks again,
Jan

Hi Babygoatpuller,
Oh I understand, I have had both eyes done, it will clear. Sorry! Sip tea, and treat yourself special.
Unfortunately, the older generation is long gone. My Mom died when I was just a child, her side of the family, was terribly neglectful to me after. My Mom was a wonderful artist, and had done several drawings. Her Dad passed when she was 5 and her Mother when she was 16. Longevity was absent in those genes.
The full dress was a picture, a cabinet photo, a simple swede dress with decorative pieces in strips of leather below her knees, thick to the floor... Hair in braids, dark and shiny. She was sitting, so young, my Grandfather behind her. My Mom had drawn me pictures as I was so interested. I thought she (my Grandmother) was so beautiful, majestic. So regretful not to have known them even at the age of 6 or 7.
There was a dog (small spotted) and a lamb, in the picture. My Mother said it was their wedding photo, but one of her brothers took it when she was little.
I was told she talked in whispers but sang like a bird. She was raised by a Yankee family as a ward of the State, having lost her own family to death (illness) possibly, many members of family. Music and sewing were her talents and what supported them after my Grandfather died. I have a piano cloth she made. The pictures (drawings) missing when I sold my Dad's house.
I dragged my family up and down the New England coast line, looking for answers. No records of her true name, the task was impossible. All websites are no help, my Grandfather had been a State boy also.
Forever unknown.
Such a book, sorry, hope you are feeling better.
Still love your name.

Jan- the clues would be in the "full dress" picture. If you could perhaps get more info on that or even see the picture I may be able to help you with it. The NE Native art is very beautiful and distinctive. I just checked the inter-hiway and well, it was information overload. I had eye surgery yesterday and am just hoping I don't mess up this message with all the blurriness. 😆

Hi Tweed,
I am sorry to hear she has problems, she has, and will remain in my thoughts. Do you think I might be in tune to you all, as I just came on a minute ago.
Thanks for letting me know, I realize the degree of hesitation, and was respecting that. All comes together in good time.
Thanks again,

Jan, just a quick note to let you know that Hecate left you a message on your previous story. I'm letting you know here in case it gets lost in all the new comments. She's had a full on week I'm afraid (not all good) and is sorry she hasn't been in touch.
Here was me thinking you guys must have been emailing up a storm haha! I guess she's had one of those 'when it rains it pours' weeks.

Yes Shelby,
It seems a long time ago now. I hope he is stilled and at peace... Home at last.
Makes you think about the careless people that took items from various places, perhaps wrongfully as a souvenir or item to remember the place by.

Hi There babygoatpuller!
Fate kept the beadwork work in your hands for a reason, I am glad you took that move, Indian art is so remarkable and needs to be preserved. Often times the elements have been harsh, damaging these items.
Tribe information is hard to find in the North East, harder yet to make a connection. I have finally given up trying to find where on the North East coast would my Grandmother have come from. I spoke to many relatives and all claim to have seen her picture (late 1800s) where she wore full dress. An Uncle said Nova Scotia but when there, I found many different tribes, but no birth records during her time, he thought the Mi'maq Tribe, but it remains a mystery.
I do hope someone can know what the tray was, other than meaningful.
I am sorry he (it) scared me so much then, were he (it) here now I might have handled it differently. Perhaps I am over thinking it.
I still love your name,
Jan

No, I've never heard of the Dybbuk box until I watched some weird show on it. It just came to mind as I was reading this. Not big on movies, and I definately avoid the junk Hollywood cranks out.

I would imagine the computer would be an odd thing if one was unfamiliar with it. At least you sent it on it's merry way and you've had no more problems with unwanted shadowy visitors.

Shelbyloree,
I am wondering if you are a watcher of movies as you mention the Dybbuk box.
The Dybbuk goes back to the 16th Century and is Jewish Folklore, there is no truth in those movies.
This was a metal tray, far from amateur, considering the design and factoring in the valuable metals and size.
My impression was that he (it) had no clue what the internet was, and was puzzled or even scared in seeing the pictures made small in the square box.
I remain that: this tray has religious meaning, and somehow was used in that way. He (it) did not speak English so it would be doubtful he would understand what was written on the EBay site.
It is fine for you to state your ideas. I posted this event to gather opinions.
Thanks,
Jan

I have to agree with Val and Tweed on this Jan. You seem to have been the vessel to carry this piece home. There's just too much coincidence and timing here to ignore the obvious.

I've been selling on eBay for about 20 years. Had one piece of Native American beadwork from the Gros Ventre tribe in Montana that I just couldn't seem to get sold. It actually sold 3 times but was never paid for. The last time I listed it, I was contacted by a gentleman that asked so many questions about the piece that I got fed up and told him if he wanted it to just bid on it.

Just as I hit the send button I happened to glance up at the screen and saw who he was. It was none other than Joe Horsecapture who was a curator for the Minneapolis Museum of Natural History and a Gros Ventre member. He wanted the piece to add to their collection in the Gros Ventre area as they had so few pieces for it.

Needless to say, I yanked the listing and donated it to the museum.

There have been a few pieces that my sweetie has brought home and as soon as I see them, I tell him to get it out of my house NOW!

I'm thinking your gut was correct on this one but that shadow overrode your gut and you did the right thing.

Thank you so much for sharing this. Captivating as always! 😊

This reminds me of the dybbuk box. Maybe not as negative, but what sounds like the amateur design may be similar. It could have been created with the "man" embedded in it for a specific purpose.

Or maybe just an heirloom and the thing attached to it wanted it back in the family, alerted the family (via staring into the computer), and got back to where it wanted to be.

Tweed, I have pictured this tray set back in a neglected garden, open to four seasons of weather, for years on end. Or perhaps in a dusty garage or barn year onto year with this shadow person waiting... Makes you wonder, who or what else sits and waits, doesn't it.
Yes it is good if he got home. He was very lost.
Yes that is another way to look at it, A Quest, well hopefully he is still and at peace now.

I'm hoping they do see it and have an answer. I too got the impression the buyer was perhaps of another culture.
I wonder if this shadow figure was willing you to buy it. Because 'it' knew you were receptive to communication. You may have helped this entity in its quest to find the right owner for this tray. Just another way to look at it. 😊

Tweed, I can't even understand why I bought it. I had an electric feeling when I passed by it. I should have known better. Really.
Your tray is not even close, nice though, please read details in Rook's answer. I forgot to say there was a feel when running your fingers over the tray, not smooth but rise and fall with the design. I had a dozen pictures at the time, but was in the habit of deleting after selling. My old computer is gone now anyway. I can not describe it better. I have been on these sites that display such items for years and have not found anything. I have wondered if it was just made by an artist from long ago, not like any other. I have gone to internet connections like National Geo. And museums with no luck. The man who bought it seemed blunt with his words, like he knew little English. He was hard to communicate with, short with words.
Someone from another part of the world might see this on YGS, and have an answer.

Wow, what an experience! Jan, I'm happy the tray found it's way back to somewhere and someone who really seemed to treasure it. Gosh I would love to know the buyer's back story too, and would be searching for answers about this as well!
I imagined it looking a little something like this:
Only far more colourful!

I agree with all others here, trust your gut, Val's spot on about the timing of events. I don't blame you for getting goosebumps about the figure sitting at your computer. I wonder if this mystery shadow figure was somehow able to bring the buyer's attention to this tray. Very interesting and mysterious experience. I hope someone can identify the origins of this tray!
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you zzsgranny,
It is not the only visitor I have had in this home, but was certainly memorable. When going through this experience I was shaky frightened. Now in looking back, we had misunderstood each other. He really never did anything bad, the hum was perhaps his way of speaking, I just couldn't relate.

Hi Rook,
I know those sites! It was flat hammered brass with a fluted edge bent up 1 1/4" hammered. There was no imprinted design, the inside was totally covered with tiny colored tiles (all shapes) and colors, bright bold colors. No pattern, random.
First the rolled silver, copper, and gold was thick, often swirled next to each other, curves and almost circles in a snake like fashion, but not in a steady design, or pattern. Random is the correct word. All were placed in a glue or some (later) hardened matter. Like the fix was put there first, soft, then the rolls of metal, more silver then copper (or brass unsure) and the gold was a thinner wire placed in when warm and bendable.
In several areas there was a missing tile, and the tip of gold or silver had broken away. It was less than perfect. The fix it laid into might have once been clear but was darkened to a browned shade, visible where tile was missing leaving an imprint.
I kept all EBay records for ten years, and then shredded them. I held this item's paperwork in my hand for a moment, and into the shredder it went.
I KNOW the value of this item should have been higher, but first I paid $5.oo and I was really frightened and wanted it gone, it was becoming stronger. I also was very sick at that time.
Rook, I have gone on these sights for years and more, I have found nothing like it. Yet I continue to look.

Hi Valkricry,
You have no idea how many times I have thought of this item over the years. The man was a non American perhaps Middle East, I never found out.
I usually sold smalls, glass, hair combs, or hat pins. It was strange (foolish) that I would buy such an item.
The auctioneer was retiring and many items that day, he had collected, he was down sizing and selling unusual items. Many things sold that day brought unbelievable prices. The tray looked like it had been outside, weathered, dirty. Later I wondered if this shadow had been visible to Joe the auctioneer, hence why it was put outside. Where he got it I do not know, he had handled estates for thirty years.
I sold over 650 items, none gave me the problem this one did. I can still picture that shadow leaning into MY computer like he was nearsighted. Sitting in MY chair... In day light in my living room.
My hope is that someone from another country, might have a thought as to how this tray was used, or perhaps explain the use in their religion. It was a beautiful item, hand created, I was happy to do my part in sending it home. When we got back from taking it to FedX, the house felt good... Clean I hope he had a good trip.

msforgetmenott,

I think the timeing of this 'visitor' and your gut have already supplied you with an answer.

This 'shadow' was attached to the tray, platter whatever you wish to call it. Had it been a 'med based halucination' I think it would have started sooner and you would have felt 'nothing' from the Platter.

Hummm? Hand hammered brass with blue, red, and green enameled tiles inset with gold and silver wire. Were they laid out in a 'filigre' pattern? It may have been Persian, Asian or Islamic, it ALMOST sounds ritualistic... Lets see what I can find...

Did it look kind of like this...

Or more like this...

Or even like this...

Or this: (I do not normally use wikipedia but when I added 'silver wire' to my search I got this as the TOP return)

($800.00 may have been a bit low... I found 2 of the size you mentioned listed for over $1,000.)

While you may have 'sold low' I think for your piece of mind and the fact that the 'shadow' departed with the Platter that you got the GOOD end of the deal.

Thanks for sharing.

Respectfully,

Rook

msfmn: I agree with Val. This story creeped me out. I'm afraid I would've had to hold out for more cash, or the history of the piece 😆. Little bit'o'bribery 😆. I can totally understand why you were so willing to get it out of your house, though.

Thank you posting, this was awesome.

Jan, the thing we can not argue is the mysterious man who wanted to purchase it. "It must come home," - seriously?!? Holy jeepers! Talk about history!
Sure, it COULD have been the treatments, it COULD have been your imagination on the shadow - but then why only this item? Why the keen focus of the shadow on the tray and actions centered on it? And what about the timing? I think there's just too much linked for it to be a random hallucination caused by either imagination or treatments.
