DARKNESS,

I've just submitted a story that covers the basics of what I learned from the deck in the experience...You'll see what I mean when it's posted...

I will say this...Don't limit yourself to the 'standard' formats... If you feel like placing a card in a different position and calling it...'personal influences' then put it there and do the reading including that 'odd placement'.

My 'standard' layout is most commonly know as the Celtic Cross... But I let 'instinct' guide me...

The Rider Waite is a great beginner deck... It offers easy explanations and is a great deck to learn on.

Respectfully,

Rook

Wow Rook kind of makes me feel as though I wish I started earlier, I'm using the Rider Waite deck at the moment. I am becoming quite familiar with this deck now, spose just keep sticking to it!

Funny you should ask...I'm self taught... Started with a deck loosely based on Egyptian Mythology... But it had been bought at a K-mart and really wasn't that good. My next deck was a Ryder Waite deck, with instructional book... I was 14 at the time... I was 18 when the deck in this story was given to me and that deck 'taught' me so many things. (You know there's a story there...hummmm)

Respectfully,

Rook

Haha wish I could bring my deck to work I think I would learn 3 times as quick, and be 3 times less productive at the sametime lol. Can I ask you who taught you to read Rook? 😊

G'day Rook! I still get drawn to this story every now and then mainly because it is so intriguing and also because I am in the process of studying them myself still. How is your Tarot going? Still have your deck in your posession buddy? πŸ˜† 😊

Z and D: I think I want to try that with my bills too. I have the added bonus of only being able to use laundromats, or other people's machines due to living somewhere that has no hookup, etc. So the event list would take place as follows:
1. Bury bills in with other dirty laundry.
2. Throw into washer with other dirty laundry.
3. Throw into dryer with other dirty laundry.
4. Grab clothes, leave paper mess and run like he77.
LOLOLOL!

Rook: You + cards = verrrrrrrry interesting. The deck I currently have is clunky, but effective for me. I have, at one time, had a card that refused to lay "straight" up and down in the position that I laid it face down in. It kept turning sideways, no matter what I did. Finally, I turned it straight sideways and continued laying my cards. When it came time to flip and interpret the spread, the card that had been turned HAD to be turned in order for the reading to function and convey whatever answer the questioner was seeking. It was freaky.
Blessings on your readings!

Devious: Wouldn't it be great if all we had to do to get rid of our bills is throw them in the dryer with the socks? πŸ˜†...I got'ta try it now πŸ˜†

Sorry Rook ❀

The fact that the deck felt it was time to leave is very obvious... And it seems as if it had a message for me...

While I firmly believe the individual should allow the deck to pick them, I think that happened when my ex picked out the present... Not a 'normal' type gift you know.

As far as this deck...it's as accurate, if not a bit more than the 'original'. I'm glad I have it... And no... My current deck has not done anything 'spectacular' (lol)

Thanks again for all the feed back, I'm sure who ever has that old deck of my is grateful to have it and uses it well.

For the record... I can't bring myself to use another persons deck, even if they have passed on... For me it's to personnel of a 'thing'.

Respectfully,

Rook

Some Tarot readers believe that, sometimes, a deck that was well-loved by it's previous owners may retain a part of their spirit when they pass on, and that those spirits can act as guides when doing readings, and they will make the right cards appear for the new owner of the deck.

I have a Greek mythology deck that I love that is deadly accurate in it's readings. I almost gave my mom a heart attack with one a little while ago. The cards feel perfect, and I know the deck is meant for me, though I can't explain why that is. I know how you feel about your deck.

Perhaps the spirit in the original deck had the sole purpose of delivering that one message to you, and once that was done, it vanished into some other realm of being, until it finds the person that needs it next. Who knows.

There are a million ways I can think of to interpret those 3 cards, and probably more if we knew more about you, though that's silly to ask - I'm sure you've thought of a lot of meanings for those 3 on your own. I hope your old deck is happy, wherever it is!

Regards,
Penny ❀

Rook,
In most of the previous comments it has been assumed that the deck didn't choose you and that's why it left. I don't ascribe to that part of the theory at all.
Here my running theory on the deck from your story:
Of course the deck chose you. It obviously needed something from you, your energy added something to the deck that was important enough for it to choose to hitch a ride with you. In exchange for that ride, it performed a trick or two just to let you know it appreciated your hospitality and the comfortable digs.
Also, who's to say that the person they left you for still has that deck? That person may have been another stepping stone to yet another. Each time it could be gathering pieces of what it needs from each encounter along the way to it's ultimate destination.
And that is why I call this a "running theory".
Because it could go on forever...

Jav 😊

(ps~I'm probably the only poster that's commented so far that has never touched a Tarot card, or had a reading done. So, in the end, my theory may carry no weight at all. πŸ˜‰)

Great story here, rookdygin. I'm going to have to agree with BadJuuJuu on this one. Yea, it does sound like a crackpot theory, but, what the hell? πŸ˜‰

zzsgranny - in that case, can I pack my bills in with them too?! πŸ˜†

Rook - I bet there's a night and day difference though, because even though you chose the same style deck, YOU were the one that picked it out. Have you had any problems with them since?

Thanks for all the comments...

BJJ: Let me know if you ever have a Half Baked Theory, cause your crack pot one make a heck of a lot of sense... And I feel kind of silly for not thinking about it like that myself. 😲

Cosmogal: My ex was... And still is a good woman. We stayed in contact and if something should ever happen to myself and my wife Samantha (my ex) will be the one who gets custody of any of our minor children...

She was my High School Sweetheart... A wonderful friend (still is) it seems however the long distance relationships that are a part of being in the Navy just didn't work for us...

If this 'cracked pot' is collecting money 'two cents' at a time, let's set it up on a street corner and see how much we can make... πŸ˜‰

DA: I feel much as you do... The deck should pick the owner... And yet after all the years that have passed between this deck 'vanishing' and the one I currently own... I went back to 'it'...I had to order it on-line and have it shipped, but the deck I use is the same 'make and model' as the one this experience is about, and I wouldn't trade them in for the world.

Taz: You just have to type quicker... (lalalalalala) 😜

Redphx: You and I agree on the basic 'meaning' belonging to the suit of Coins (Diamonds in a regular deck). I bring that up because that is what I used for years after this deck went missing. It wasn't until I had re-married that I felt a need for another Tarot deck... And the one I currently use, as stated before, is the same as the one that vanished... Had to special order it on-line as I could not find it in any metaphysical stores... No the cards have not done the same thing, so it seeems as if that was a one time thing.

Thanks again for all the feed back... Any and all is welcomed.

Respectfully,

Rook

Rook: I agree with BJJ and her "crackpot theory" πŸ˜†...And I think the deck chose to leave you, since it didn't choose you to begin with, as Devious pointed out...

Devoius, I wonder if Rook had them packed near his socks, and wanted in on the "escape to the black hole"? πŸ˜†

Taz: better late than never!...You have to get up pretty early in the morning (our time LOL!) to beat these girls at anything! ❀

huh. This is very odd to me. I don't really like the coins suit. To me it is a suit of greed and materialistic endeavors. But it seems like you were going through the suit in order. Your deck must have been teaching you or warning you. I sometimes will have the same card appear in spreads over and over no matter how I shuffle but I would never have them duplicated. I think your deck was trying to show you a journey or a lesson of sorts. Too bad it's gone now.

oh here I go again! Ruddy broken record!?
Rook have to agree with all the comments here 😠
A tarot deck will pick its owner
It will pick up on the vibrations of the people that handle them. Shop owner, (ex) wife and you.

The blessing did throw me a bit but I did recall the person who gave me mine (white witch) sat mummbling while I tried to do a reading for her, could have been a blessing but don't know.

The extra cards were giving you a message and personaly I would say it was a warning about your marrage but won't jump to conclusions as don't know what else could have been happening at the time (tarot work in the now a past reading is hard to read properly with out knowing all the details)

Like cosmo said a gift is only a gift if ment, and no underlying feeling attached.
The cards would have known, stayed with you until message given and somehow left you.
It could have been one at a time suddenly you notice a few missing or like they did this time there "real" owner somehow got the gift they never expected.

Personaly I would say thank the cards for the readings they gave while with you, they allowed you to use them until you and there true owner crossed paths.

Even if this new owner stole them which is wrong it was ment to happen that way.
You now have the deck you should have (I hope)
And as long as they work for you and your reading are true then enjoy.

So to miracles, badjuujuu, cosmogal and deviousangel
Im sat here blowing raspberrys at you all πŸ˜†
I swear even if rook had been here next to me and asked personaly you lot would still somehow have gotten in first!?!
Oh what the heck good advice ladys

Thanks for sharing your story Rook. That is quite a mystery. I think that your ex had good intentions when she purchased this gift for you, but tarot cards are a tricky thing...personally, I believe that the deck should "choose" you, and not vice-versa. When you walk into a shop that sells them, you just KNOW which one to get because it almost seems to seek you out. That is the one that will be most compatible with you. Now, I think it's possible that since this deck didn't "choose" you, it chose to confuse you, and eventually vanished altogether. Where it went? Who knows, probably the same place where the missing socks go!

Rook, I'm going to have to agree with Miracles and BJJ on the cards having something to do with the person who gave them to you. I have always believed that if someone gives you a gift and it's not given in good faith or intentions then it won't last. I'm not saying that your ex wasn't a good woman, but when the salesperson blessed the cards maybe it triggered something that knew the relationship was not going to last. So the deck of cards would not work well for you because of how you acquired them. I hope that made some kind of sense. Just wanted to throw my two cents in the crack pot! LOL πŸ˜†

Like Miracles, I wonder exactly what the blessing was all about.
Ah, crackpot theory time. Miracles wondered if the shop owner foresaw the breakup. I think the shopowner didn't but the cards did.
First extra card, happiness and contentment. At that time, you we're happy with life and relationship. Second card, less positive, arising of difficult situations. Card was trying to tell you that the inevitable break up was coming. Third card, perfection that brings fame and dignity? Telling you that your future held a great love and wonderful family. To them, you're a rock star.
Once this deck had given it's message, fulfilled the blessing placed upon it, it was no longer needed and left you. Probably found it's way, with the "correct" number of cards, to someone who needed it more.
Anyhoo, crackpot theory quota filled.

Rook - I wonder what was in that "blessing" the shop owner bestowed upon your deck? And, did it have anything to do with the fact that your then fiancee is now your ex-wife? I don't mean, for those who tend to misunderstand me πŸ˜†, that the shop owner caused the end of the relationship, more that she "foresaw" it. Curiouser and curiouser. This one would bug me for life πŸ˜†
