Tapping Noise

Hey everyone, it's been a while since I've submitted my first story. But I'm back with another spooky experience. I will keep it as short and simple as possible.

My mom and aunt live with me. I stay over at my boyfriend's house a lot so I'm rarely here. The current time right now is 3:51am. Yesterday evening, my mom told me she heard a tapping sound coming from our living room and then our room. She described the sound as water dripping on the air conditioner. I notice that it gets lower and louder again. But not too loud. But she pointed at the ceiling which was weird. I asked her if she thinks it was the neighbors upstairs and she said she didn't hear their footsteps. My mom is very good at spotting their footsteps at night because it's not hard to miss. She said she first heard it in the living room and then our room so it made me question if it was the air conditioner, she did point at the ceiling which tells me that's where she heard the sound coming from.

I woke up around 3am and had been hearing the tapping sound for myself. I wonder if it was happening while I was sleeping or started happening once I woke up. I'm a light sleeper so I would've noticed the tapping sound before even fully waking up. It didn't sound as if it were already happening, it started about 2 minutes after I woke up. Well that's when I noticed it. I'm not sure. I don't feel like I woke up because I heard something, but I wonder what woke me up. Why is it happening since I woke up? Is it something trying to get my attention? I wonder if I stayed sleeping would it have started again. I was too scared to open my eyes at first. I'm still scared and think it may be something paranormal.

Bread-butter-sammy - thank you:) I will check for anything that may need repair. I honestly thought it may just be that the air conditioner is messed up (since that's where I heard it) but since my mom heard it from the ceiling it made me doubt. I will publish more of my spooky experiences because I have a lot!

Rajine- sorry I left out the answer to your question. She has heard it a few nights in a row. She also heard it when I wasn't around. I've heard it about two nights in a row and didn't hear it a third time but she did! Very weird.

I definitely don't have any pests or anything around (thankfully). We don't experience issues with them. To be fair I asked my mom "what if it's a rat?" But she said she heard it from the ceiling in the living room and the bedroom, and I heard it right on the air conditioner. I'm trying to make things add up. Also, the sound didn't sound as if it was coming from upstairs or between walls at all. It was like water dripping on the ac.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and opinions!:) helps me feel less spooked but I know my house is "haunted" lol. Also why I feel it may be paranormal.

Rajine- my mom and I have only heard it at night. Never during the day. She also thinks it's weird but not sure if she thinks it's paranormal. She may or may not honestly but I'll ask her.

The sound sounds just like a drop of water dripping on the air conditioner, slightly louder. At one point, the sound started off low and became a bit louder afterwards. Nothing extreme but a small difference.

Thanks for sharing this! Honestly, it sounds like your home just has a few little mysteries - not necessarily anything spooky. Houses can make all kinds of strange noises, especially at night when everything's quiet. It's totally natural to feel a bit unsettled at 3am, but I think you're safe and sound. Still, it's always a good idea to check around the house just in case there's something that needs fixing. Hope you and your family are doing well - looking forward to more of your stories!

It's normal to get scared of things that go bump in the night, sometimes it can turn out to be nothing.

How often has your mum experienced this tapping though? And does it only happen at a specific time or at anytime of the day or night?

Hi, there.
Hmm... Perhaps it is too soon to conclude it as a paranormal activity 🤔
Pets, mice or any pests, will make noise too. I remember back in Brazil, we hear strange scratches from where the water pipe is, it was not rusty at that time but it seems to be moving from room to room, ever our neighbors noticed that we have noises around. We called an animal expert in he investigated the whole place and guess what he said that it could be something big... When we hear the scratching he opens up the ceiling and saw a monitor lizard hidden inside the pipe system. 😨 Wow

You know, it could be insidences like this or even worse in cases... So have a check there and see what the tapping is all about, check with the people upstares too.

Sending Luck

Both of the previous posters have a point.

On the one hand, it's difficult to reach a conclusion out of, what seems to be, a single and random event.

On the other hand, there could be some more information that you might have left out in order to "keep it as short and simple as possible."
Does your mother think that this is a paranormal occurrence? What makes you think it may be paranormal?

In my opinion, the first step would be to discard any mundane explanation for this noise before and instead of feeling afraid of it. After ruling out any natural explanation go ahead and start a paranormal research.

Good luck and keep us posted

I would talk to it. Please stop the tapping. Hi, tap once Please if you are a friendly spirit. Tap once Please if you lived here before. Tap 2 times if you are a girl. Maybe a passed pet? Past owner/ renter. I would certainly go upstairs first and talk to renters above you about deaths, spirit board use, have they noticed the tapping, any rodent problems family ashes on the mantle. Could it be a lost loved one trying not to startle you but waiting for you to wake. There are so many things you can ask. They could just be looking for attention. But you have to be solid and not intimidated if you ask anything from the spirit world. All creaks in the night aren't bad. Believe me I have asked these questions before, and debunking is always first. Forget about closed-minded comments the renters may say to you, you're clearing your list, your mind. Good luck

It could be something but there's too little here to go on to make much of a conclusion. Please keep us updated.
