JPing's theory is plausible and sounds like the most logical explanation posed although, badjuujuu, I'm fairly certain that a bobcat would have harmed the dogs. I know the mountain lions up at my cousin's home in New Mexico have already killed 3 of the family dogs although it is possible 😁. Also about the Wendigo if I'm not mistaken I believe the idea of 'wendigo psychosis' was created in order to discourage members of a particular tribe from partaking in cannabalism. Sort of like 'If you eat human flesh you will turn into a Wendigo' which is basically a psychotic human turned creature that has an insatiable craving for human flesh much like a zombie so I don't think it would fit the black figure description in this particular instance.
Peace&Love 😁 ❀

My apologies, DeviousAngel. I have not frequented this forum in some years and have perhaps forgotten the sorts of (what I would call 'silly') things some people here believe in.

I did not intend offence.

I completely agree that there are many things out there waiting to be discovered in the less explored regions of the world (the swamps of Louisiana less so). However, the chances of there being actual monsters out there (vampires, werewolves, wendigos, big foot, nessie and the sort) is unlikely in the extreme.

I say so with full confidence due to the fact that not a shred of hard, empirical evidence has ever been presented to the contrary.

So no, unfortunately I regret that I cannot in full honestly return your gracious offer of respect for contrary opinion. I simply cannot respect that which, to me, does not come across as rationalised.

I do recall having made similar statements in the past which have made me less than popular on this forum.

That aside, I hope we can get along.

Thank you for yours and BadJuuJuu's support of my theory. I would very much like to hear from thescreamer and see if he can add any more specific information which could confirm or debunk it as a possibility.

JP, I respect your difference of opinion but I believe your approach was a bit hostile. There's a difference between stating opinion and fact, and your statement was an opinion. It has not been proven as fact that there is no such thing as "monsters". I guess it depends on your interpretation of the word.

There are such things as creatures we have not yet discovered or understand, and who knows WHAT is out there, under the sea, in the swamps, anywhere we haven't thoroughly explored yet.

While I do think that you could be onto something with your theory, I would appreciate if you would be a little bit more understanding of other's opinions just because they don't coincide with your own. 😊 The names we give these creatures are just like the term "demon" as it applies to hostile supernatural beings--we just don't know what else to call them.

A small animal casting a long shadow from a high light source? That's...actually completely logical and makes a lot of sense. American possums in general are pretty quiet beasties. The loudest noise I've ever heard a possum make was a hiss. A bobcat though would make one god-awful screech.
JPing may have solved this mystery. 😊

Hi thescreamer,

Whatever that thing was, it most certainly was not a wendigo as suggested by DeviousAngel. The description doesn't fit in the slightest. Also, there's no such thing as monsters.

Is it possible that this thing may have been a small animal (do you have possums or similar in Louisiana?) which, upon jumping on the fence, threw a long shadow onto the ground due to the high light-source?

I suggest a possum in particular as - though I am not sure about American possums - Australian possums make enough noise to wake the dead.

Thescreamer. Sorry, I've read this a dozen times over and the being you saw just doesn't ring any bells. I've never heard of anything like this at all. I do agree with other posters who say it wasn't demonic in nature. The dogs wouldn't have been harrassing it if it was, so we don't know what it is, but we have a good idea what it aint. At least this seems to have been a one-time event.
And yeah, waka-waka was making some very tacky statements. Glad to see he hasn't said anything else.

hi! It's been a while since I posted here. By the way guys, who is <wakawaka>? I did not see any post from that individual.

Anyway, the story was really creepy. I believe it could be an entity that resides in the forest and most entities will not go away by just a simple blessing.

God Bless.

screamer: Sorry, I didn't mean to say that I did not believe your story, just giving some info on "the slender man"...Besides, your account happened way before this contest anyway... (thanks DerEngle for the kick in the pants, LOL)

Was the time this happened 1:30am or pm?...Not that it matters, it would have scared a person in daylight as well as night... And your camper's big enough to have a recliner?...I WANT ONE! Lol πŸ˜†...Anyway, could have been a shadow person, but I don't think I've ever heard of one screaming... But I do agree that whatever it was, was scared also... I don't think "D" words are afraid of dogs!...And the animals would have reacted completely different...

Sorry, not much help... Interesting account though! 😊

Got this info from knowyourmeme.com:

Back in June the 8th 2009, a 'paranormal pictures' photoshop contest thread was launched on the Something Awful forums. This idea to create scary pictures, and even to use them to trick paranormal forums, became entertaining among users there who started altering pictures and adding fake ghosts and other strange figures, typically appending fake stories to make it look more realistic.

On June the 10th, user Victor Surge wrote this post. It was the first known mention of the Slender Man as a creature who seemingly stalked children. That was also where the first two altered photos of him were created

So, I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin' 😊

Aren't Wendigo's those creepy ghost cannibals Devious and aren't cannibals are suppose to be human like not tall Slender thing. So I think its more accurate that this is a Slender Man. There's not much info but I hope this helps (http://www.mythicalcreaturesguide.com/page/Slender+Man). Just open that link and maybe you'll find some answers.

well, it was scared, or annoyed by dogs so it couldn't have been that much of a bad a**. Did you ask to see if anyone that lived around that area had seen something unusual? This might be a common thing among the locals. Have you been back since then and if so did you stay awake to see if it was out gallyvanting around? Since there wasn't a rash of folks being taken at night it obviously was either unable to take people at will or didn't care to.

Dear The screamer,

A spirit of fear was probably instilled into you. Here is my suggestion.

When you go to bed pray to God for help. Ask God to put a helmet of salvation on your mind and ask God to put a hedge of protection around you. Read a Bible verse out loud. 2 Timothy 1:7 is a pretty good verse. Hope this helps. ❀ 😊 ❀

Devious - I'm straying a bit from the story here, and I apologize, but I feel the same about wakawaka. I was ready to say some unkind things last night when I read the comment on one of my stories, as well as the other comments, and then decided if no one acknowledges it, maybe wakawaka will just go away!

I hope wakawaka will be removed from this site for trolling, since he/she/it has not posted anything worthwhile except to make bad-taste jokes about her "black husband".

Anyway, that aside. I must say that when I read this story I thought back to the old urban legend of the wendigo.

Could be an urban legend but it's possible that your dogs saved your life. That this creature seemed fast and very skinny fits the description, including the blood-curdling scream.

This link has a bit more information if you scroll down or do a CTRL+F and search for "wendigo".

I live in Ireland and there are many stories of a black cloaked figure. We call it the Banshee. It is said that if you see the Banshee and hear the high pitched scream (cry) someone in your family or someone you know is about to die. Did anyone you know die after you say the cloaked figure? You should search the Banshee in google.

i never really saw it as being demonic more as a creature just something that's been living in the swamps in louisiana cause I can tell you right now there are many things in the back parts of that state that most people have never seen and things that no one can explain so that's what I wrote it off as

Hey thescreamer,

You should check out the story from Erte4879 called 'the tall skinny man' posted on 12-02-09. Maybe if you commented on his story and asked him about the similarities, you could find some common ground to help each other.
Oh and by the way, I see you are also from Louisiana. (Ahh,eee!)
Enjoyed the story.

Kardagen,
Very true. My inquiry about a native population was just my opinion that the likelihood of such an occurrence where they reside would be more acceptable. An individual from any place, or time for that matter, could be just as likely.
Good comment.

It rather sounds like the Dementors off of Harry Potter, does it not?
I am in semi-agreeance with a couple of posters here.
Your grandparents had the PROPERTY blessed by THREE priests when the house was built there? May I ask if they only blessed the area the house was in, or if they included the surrounding area, including the area surrounding the shop light? You say "...when there house was built..." and that you were watching the television "...in the camper". Are these two separate buildings, or one in the same?
What was the reason they felt compelled to have the property blessed in the FIRST place?
Wa-do.

O'course Lou didn't you know anything not gleaming with silvery light or breathing has to be demonic, joking aside, I haven't heard the term 'skin walker' in a very long time, but for a non-ghostie take on the situation, its viable. But question Lou? Does it have to be near a RES/group of native American? Could it not be a lone individual/practitioner? My own belief system has simular 'shape changers' for lack of a better term. Just throwing in my two cents...again

On this site, I guess if it is black... Its a demon! In the dark, everything looks black. I appreciate everyone's opinions and suggestions, but I am not of the opinion that every paranormal or supernatural occurrence is because of a demonic presence. I have suffered from the torture of demonic influence, this experience and my previous statement, allow me to recognize that there are many forces at work...good, evil, and benign.
My original inquiry about the creature's eyes was not answered, but I gather from another discussion about its eye color, that they were not notable.
Screamer, how far do you live from the nearest reservation or concentration of Native Americans? What I envision from your description is the transformation stage of a skinwalker.
According to Native American folklore, individuals could transform themselves into animals, but had to go through a ritual, which included wearing the skin, or pelt of that animal. Without being condescending or chasing a stereotype; remember the old depictions of the Plains Indians creeping across the prairie in pursuit of buffalo, with wolf pelts on their backs and heads? My question about eye placement was because I believe what you saw was a skinwalker returning to its human form, and the additional height was the pelt and head of the animal it was transforming from, after the dogs put it out of the yard.

Echos got the right of it, it doesn't matter what you are or what you believe, so long as its what -you- believe and not some notion someone else has impressed on you.
Sorry I can't be of any help with what the thing was, but I do understand what you mean about knowing it was looking at you with out actualy locking eyes persey.

You don't have to be a Christian to be safe. Your religion does not matter, it's faith that has power. Only your fear can let these things get to you.

Some good interpetations here to choose from, screamer, and the sight certainly would scare the devil out of most of us, too. Whatever it was, it seems to have been a onetime deal, though, which is good.
It could be you too quickly dismiss the effectiveness of your grandfather's requested blessing, though. "It" didn't attack or molest you in any way, and your grandfather seems never to have been bothered, either, is this right? "It" accomplished its mission, though, which was to make you think about more than what commonly meets the eye.

this is what you do, you go to a church and you
Ask the preacher to pray for you, then you go to the store and buy dozens of crosses, then you hang them all around the walls of your house.
YOU HAVE TO BE A CHRISTIAN TO BE SAFE!
(to be a christian, you have to be good and believe that jesus is your saver and died for YOU on the cross to get your sins away.) 😐

Hi Bigb;

Dark shadows are demonic. As a demonologist, I've been getting an increasing number of calls about these vile things. The psychic hours are from 9 pm - 6 am, and demons are most active there between.

I suggest getting and using, especially at night, a lot of Catholic Holy water, and the names of Jesus, Mary and St. Michael the Archangel. God bless and keep me posted. Email me at Dukes2352atAOL.com, if any more problems.

Hi, me and a few friends keep seeing a bunch of shadow figures that are about 3 feet tall and they look like they are wearing hoods. We will see 3 or 4 at a time and they are very dark black and even at night you can see them.

What are they? Are they demonic? Should we be scared? Can some one help me?

well if the whole religious thing did work then it woudldn't even be able to walk on my grandparents property they had it blessed by three priests in there area when there house was built there.

In response to zishu: I saw no eyes at all I didn't even see a mouth when it screamed at the dogs

if anyone wants to follow up and continue this discussion email me at vampirefreak22 [at] yahoo.com I will also tell you about the rest of the things happening at the house I wish I could put it all in one here but only gives you 1200 characters here lol

Oh yea that is demon. I don't know which type. Did you see the color of it's eyes? I have seen a demon in it's shadow form before slouching, but if it were to stand, it would be as tall as what you described. I have heard succubi screech before. I can never forget that sound. It sounds like banshees. The succubus that screech at me was actually in her shadow form. You also mentioned the darting, that's the speed they travel at. If you have a demon at your house, you would be able to see shadows darting in the corner of your eye. The reason you cannot see their true forms is because they cannot manifest enough energy to do so. All it needed from you is your fear, which is why it screeched at you so you could be scared so it could feed from that.
When you are afraid of these things, pray for God to send ArchAngel St. Michael to help vanquish them or scare them off.
