YGS community--I just quickly wanted to write that my three accounts that were put up on the Tumblr blog True Ghost Stories From Around The World were finally removed today. There are still A LOT of other accounts from YGS on that site. Tweed gave some great info on copyright infringement a couple of days ago and it really is worthwhile to fill out the online tumblr form for copyright violation.

I wrote the guy who runs the above mentioned blog twice and never received a reply. I urge anyone else who has an account up on this blog without permission to get tumblr to remove it! It's good to send puds like the guy running this blog that YGS isn't a place to steal accounts from.

It is a very good comment and also very true. Rookdygin, actually approached me not long ago and asked if I had two accounts. I have never submitted a copied article to another site so my stories as listed on YGS should 0NLY be on www.yourghoststories.com.

I did have an experience, once, on an Angels and Guides website where I had the almost exact same experience as another User/Author. I was dumbfounded and excited so I quickly submitted a response to the site and in itself a reply to the Author saying, - "I have had almost the exact same experience as you, this is my story..." I felt as though it was a validation that my experience was REAL. However, when I went back on to the site, her story had been taken down and the website had not published my story or replied to me. And, they never did.

KikiGirl, it's definitely not a sister site, those can be found with a link in the top right corner of this page. I sent the tumblr site a complaint via their contact form (also another site that was fortunately quick to remove the material). As valkricry have mentioned, there's a problem with education regarding copyrights. The fact is, everything is automatically copyrighted to the original author. We can give them a week or so before escalating the matter.

If you're interested in finding potential copiers for an article, just pick a unique string of text in the story and search it with quotes on Google.

Tweed,
Since you brought up copyright law, I thought I'd toss in my 2 cents. Since April 1st, 1989 anything posted on the internet is automatically copyrighted. This was established by the Berne copyright convention. In other words under modern copyright law, the formalities of registration and copyright notice are no longer required, it's automatic. This, "Copyright Β© 2006-2017 YourGhostStories.com. No reproduction of any part without permission or you will be haunted," only still exists because most people are ignorant of copyright laws. They want to believe anything on the net is up for grabs.
Generally just asking a website owner to either removes or give credit suffices, if they refuse contacting the web host (Tumblr, YouTube, et cetera) will usually do the trick. Hosts really do not want the fuss that can be generated over copyright infringement.

Hi everybody I have just seen this article on - http://trueghoststories.tumblr.com/post/155433271301/how-can-mediums-talk-to-ghosts

Matching YGS Site link: http://www.yourghoststories.com/ghost-articles/mediums-talk-ghost.php

Is this the same writer? Is tumblr a sister-site? 0r a research site with connection/s with YGS?

Sometimes these happenings are just kids who don't understand the weight of what they're doing. So attempting to contact the culprit is a polite safety net against scaring a 13 year old.
But if not, well yeah. πŸ˜‰

Fellow YGSers,

I feel some things need to be said on the subject of copyright and what it means, legally and morally.

I'm not a bona fide lawyer but I took entertainment law (a slightly different kettle of fish) as part of film school. My law teacher was this guy:

He was great, his lectures were like stand up comedy ah la Denis Leary. Very funny guy and great teacher.

Copyright is a painfully simple concept. Really, unbelievably simple.
Legally copyright is this: 'Β©' and/or this: 'copyright', and that's it folks. The inclusion of creator (s) name (s) after a 'copyright' is to indicate to whom the copyright belongs.

So if it's all so simple, why does anyone need 'entertainment law' in the first place? To maintain this simple concept, that's it. In the event the simple concept gets corrupted by greed, stupidity and ego, with humans the likelihood of this is extremely high, entertainment law then swirls down like an eagle clearing the base level crap, restoring harmony once more.

YGS already has the simple concept built in by default. Every time a submission is posted it's automatically copyrighted to the author, bottom of page. The inclusion of the cute, humours 'or you will be haunted' to the 'no reproduction' statement does not in any way water it down. Because it is, you guessed it, a simple concept.

All websites and web hosting companies are bound by the simple concept of copyright. If the simple concept gets corrupted, high likelihood with humans, down swoops the eagle. That eagle was perched in the corner all along. The second the human ticked 'I agree' to terms of use the eagle was alerted to that human's existence. The eagle then watches over everything the human does in it's territory, site/blog/whatever.

If you find yourself in the predicament of having your experience appear on another site/blog/whatever, and the culprit isn't respecting your requests to have it removed, don't panic. The site/blog/whatever will have an eagle somewhere. Find the eagle, tell it your woes and let it do what it does, restore the simple concept of copyright.

The simple concept also applies to creative commons license, which is popular nowadays. However creative commons still requires credit to the source, and/or whatever else is stipulated by the creator/author.

Keep it simple people. As a matter of fact here comes an eagle now:

If you find your experience on that blog, as Manafon did, fill out the form.

We're in a time where technology surpasses all else, where instant gratification is expected by a false sense of entitlement. This is all temporary, common sense will prevail. Don't let the tail wag the dog by doing nothing, or nothing will get done.

Debunking update: Re stupid ball lightning.

Yeah, I've been on a bit of mission since the other day.
When I thought about it this started around new years, the sound of fireworks in the distance. Then a week or so ago, one loud bang down the road, another loud bang closer to us, seemingly 'replied' by another loud bang in the same 'further away' position, again 'responded' by another loud bang in the closer to location. This was about last week. Figured it was people mucking about with left over fireworks from new years, not exactly legal, but there you go. I started to ponder these types of bangs a day after my 'ball lighting' event. The flash of light I saw the other day ruled out faulty gas lines, so we weren't overly concerned.

Last night we were watching a DVD and another loud bang happened outside, sounded like it was right under our window, very freaky. So we go outside, nothing at all amiss. One of our neighbours also came out. No one saw anything, total mystery.

Today, after much pondering, I think I've solved it.

Can I say the W word on here?

The cause of my so called 'ball lighting' is down to w---ers. The type who make their cars backfire at will. Yeup. I've been looking this up and there's an entire w--ky subculture of d---heads who do this. They beef their cars up, modifying the modern 'quiet' exhaust and engine. There's certain modifications which allow them to backfire without any, or very little, motor sound. So it's literally like a bolt from the blue, if you're near by. This is right in line with some idiots over the road who were spending far too much time tuning their car a while back. The tuning sounds were very odd, I told Wish Not because it reminded me of his scary encounter.

So anyway, to anyone who read me freaking out about ball lighting the other day, scrap that thought. Twas numpties all along.

haha, Darkangel I've never watched Charmed but some kind of energy ball would be way cool. Ball lightning is a real thing, I first heard of it many years ago. Plus it gets mentioned on here occasionally. There's a cool discussion about it on this thread:
But the flash I saw appeared white, not blue. I only saw a flash of white light down the side of the house, but not what made the flash. I don't think there was anything paranormal going on, just a totally bizarre freak of nature. 😊

Tweed- What is really going on in your neighborhood? That is crazy! I have never heard of no such thing like that, I have witnessed lightening strikes at close proximity and it is nothing like your description. LOL you ever watched Charmed? That is kind of what that sounds like some type of energy ball. But either way that is totally insane! I would be tripping for real!

That's wild Tweed! Ball lightning, as far as I know is not reported in weather reports and doesn't show up on radar. Or if it does show up, it's such a rare anomaly that it probably is considered to be a "blip" or something else.

There is very little known about ball lightning because it is unpredictable and quite rare. I have read about it over the years in various books that take in multiple types of unusual phenomena. Reports of people encountering it go back, at least, to the early nineteenth century, but without checking, there could be reports prior to that.

Glad your okay--have a tea... Or a gin. Whatever works 😁.

Manafon after I posted that I did a bit of reading and it's astonishing how little is known about it. I kind of opened the door a bit to smell, about five minutes after it happened, and there was no smell. But after about half an hour there was a smell. There's still is a smell now. I can't wait for the neighbours to get home, there's no destruction in our yard that I can tell (I'm still too scared to venture out and have a proper investigation!) But I think it must have landed/exploded somewhere along our fence line. The smell is odd, don't know about sulpher, but a definite burnt smell. Do these kinds of things get reported on in the weather, can they show up on radars? I can't find anything about it online. Not that I'd expect these things to be predicted, but thought maybe they'd show up on radars after the fact and what have you.
It's so weird, I'm functioning and feel fine, but I think I might be in a bit of shock at the same time! πŸ˜† <-- slightly insane laughy face!

Tweed--It really does sound like you had some ball lightning wandering around outside your house. Many reports of ball lightning state that it explodes after traveling for some distance and that it makes a "sizzling" sound while moving about. Often reported too is a strong sulphur smell after it detonates. There's a joke in there somewhere 😜. Oh yeah, ball lightning is often reported when there are no clouds or storms about.

Glad you listened to your internal voice!

Does this sound like ball lightning? About an hour ago I was just about to step out. But my internal dialogue was all like 'don't go outside, don't go outside, don't go outside' (!) So I didn't. About 20 seconds after I decided not to I heard a slight crackling sound which could have been anything, then an almighty BANG with a bright white flash. What the what? I didn't see what it was, just a white flash in either the neighbours place or down the side of ours, where I was about to walk (dude!).
Lesson here: ALWAYS listen to your gut.
I have no idea what the heck just happened. So far can't find any burn marks, I've only peered from the window but all looks normal out there. There's no storm, no wild weather either. What in the weird?!
Know it's offtopic but that scared the crap out of me! 😲

Thanks everyone for your input. 😊

Darkangel, I think it's possible this is a residual thing, but then I think it's equally, if not more possible, to be tinnitus lol.

Elfstone, I'd never thought of an air compressor. But I did think once many years ago that it could've been an air conditioner.

Miracles, my tinnitus also sounds like old-school dial-up.

Tweed, something else that might sound like a lawnmower but could be used at night if it was needed is an air compressor. Like if someone had a flat tire?

Hey tweed.
I too have tinnitus, occasionally had it since I was about 20 (probably too many raves back in the day lol) it used to sound like a high pitch tone. But as I've gotten older it now sounds more like a fridge running. I also have TMJ disorder which has caused partial deafness in left ear, so sometimes whilst my right ear is humming like a fridge, my left ear is running like a car motor (weird how deaf ear hears louder from inside) Luckily it comes and goes for me as I'm a light sleeper and it can be loud enough to wake me. A friend of mine has a constant ringing noise and he has had to do distraction therapy to try and ignore it. But I think maybe you and your husband have it, but different people hear different sounds. Could be wrong but I deffo think worth checking out for both of you 😊.
Cool story though, thanks for the read.

Tweed-
She evidently followed me into the bedroom when I went to get the blanket and went into the closet. I closed the closet door, (no closet doors allowed open when we sleep), and just assumed she followed me out.
I thought she'd been got by a mountain lion, coyote or one of our monster size owls. She's just a little doxie and very timid for her breed. She suffered from abuse at a very young age before I got her so tends to stay quiet.
So yeah, she was there for three days and she didn't poop once! 😊

Tweed-
I have a very weird non-ghost, ghost story about my dog and my deafness. You know what it's like to hear something on one side of you and it's actually coming from the opposite direction. Your head starts spinning around like Rosemary's baby and people look at you weird. πŸ˜†

My little dog Rosie followed me into the bedroom one night to as I was getting a blanket for Mike. I heard her little clicks on the tile follow me out. Went to bed and got up the next day to go to, where else, the casino. I always give her a kiss and tell her to be good before we leave, but I couldn't find her. We looked EVERYWHERE, the neighbors looked and we looked for hours. And then days.

For three days I was a mess. My heart was broken. I had lost my second child and was losing my will to go on. I had to run up to the store for something and when I came home, I walked in the front door and stood there quietly and said aloud, "god, please make it stop hurting".

Just at that moment, I heard a faint scratching sound and heard a very far off muffled "woof'. I looked around and heard it again and I'm looking side to side looking for where it was coming from. I heard it again but with little clicks, like on a tile floor and it was getting faster. My head is starting to go in spin mode and I'm going in circles looking for her. The sound was starting to repeat faster and louder and my heart is racing. I called my husband in a panic and yelled I can hear her but I can't see her! I called my neighbor and screamed at her to come help me, I'm losing it here!

She came right over and at first didn't hear anything. I made her be very quiet and then she heard it. Woof, scratch. Woof, scratch, click, click. I was thinking my little Rosie was a little spirit coming to visit me. Sharon started looking around. She had heard it and we both looked under the house, in the house and then stood in the hallway. We could hear it better there. We slowly walked down and into the bedroom where I got the blanket three nights before and all was quiet. I slowly opened the closet door and there she sat staring up at me. 😭

One of the top 3 happiest days of my life! 😊

Hi fives to you BGP, I'm deaf in one ear too!πŸ˜† My left ear hears inside instead of outside, birth defect in my case. I have tinnitus as well and I've heard a strange motor sound with fever from colds or flu. It's very disorientating, but it's only been there with a fever. I never thought that it could be linked to tinnitus. How you describe your distant motor and your ENT doc's input about tinnitus is a high probability in my case. I'm fastidious about hearing protection, like obsessive about it, have been since I got tinnitus back in 1999. Since then the ringing hasn't got any worse, stays the same. But my hearing is now extremely sensitive, especially to high frequencies. The sound of a tap running is too loud, without ear plugs. Pretty sure this is because I've been wearing ear plugs since '99. (Having one good ear, with the threat of hearing damage made me hyper vigilant!)
The tinnitus angle is a very real possibility, thanks for letting me know!

Argette, I hear a distant bullhorn too sometimes, what the hell is that about?! Late at night, all is still HOOOOOOOOOOOONK. I always attribute it to a factory. Helicopters at night are always annoying. They might do training exercises. They've probably got to train in all conditions, including night time.

Haha DandK, I have a sneaky suspicion that guy wanted to test out the head light on his new ride on mower. Guess he thought better of that.
No RVs around here but I'm guessing generators would be a popular means of powering a shed or garage.

Curly, husband more or less screwed his nose up at the generator idea, for the same reasons you mentioned. He thinks there's more to it. What Goatpuller said about tinnitus has ticked a lot of boxes for me and I can't ignore that. Yet at the same time I'm not sure if hearing damage induced 'motor' sounds include variants, like what I perceive as a mower going over a stick here and there, and the motor adjusting to differences in grass length/thickness and the like. I mean it sounds exactly like a lawn being mowed, not just the motor alone. The weird motor type sounds I've had with a fever sound like a repetitive drone which cries 'fever weirdness', pretty unmistakable. But the tinnitus motor BGP attributed to the clay factory near her, that sounds very similar to what I experience and this could be what I'm hearing and why he's not hearing it.

Ergh, it's like going in circles with this one. Ever feel like you're moving in slow motion? I think it'll take time and more comparing notes with each other to get to the bottom of this. I may also need a hearing checkup.

"Doctor, doctor, my hearing's sensitive!"
"Then start wearing earplu... Oh."

Hi tweed!,
I can see the possibility of late night mowing, but with your hubby hearing the hammering makes me think of it as a residual haunting. Seems to me if it were a generator or mower, your husband would hear something besides a hammering. Enjoyed your story as always.

Tweed, around here it's common for people to have folks staying on their property in RVs, using generators. I noticed the frequency of this happening increased as people lost their homes due to the economic downturn. It is less common now, but just last weekend the neighbor behind me and kitty corner moved an rv in their backyard with the windows looking into our yard. My husband's been grumbling about the lack of privacy all week.

People next door had their son move into an rv in their driveway about a month ago. My next door neighbors have a swimming pool pump that makes a motor sound during the summer which drives me nuts. Seasonal though.

Last, the 'new' neighbors across the street caused an uproar in the neighborhood when they got on their riding lawnmower at 11:30 at night to mow their front and back lawns. I got a couple of phone calls from other neighbors asking if I knew who was rudely mowing and keeping everyone awake. I looked out the window and saw the neighbor had a headlight on his mower, like a car! Anyway, he never did that again.

I'm beginning to think odd night noises are common. For years, I heard someone using a bullhorn. Then helicopters hovering. Then a cart being pulled. I finally realized the latter was a junker or tin can collector on a bicycle with a cart, going through people's recycleping, looking for cans.

The bullhorn stumps me.

Great story, btw. Proves my point that the scariest experiences aren't always white mists and glowing red eyes.

Tweed-
About 3 years ago I was sitting up in bed doing a crossword puzzle and started hearing this rumbling noise. It was similar to a far off lawn mower or some kind of large machinery which, out here in the country could be anything. I finally chalked it up to being something running at the clay factory a couple of miles down the road.

I had been hearing this annoying noise for almost a year and always late at night and always from my bedroom. Sometimes louder and sometimes very faint and not every night at first. Gradually, I started hearing it every night. SO annoying!

Then I started hearing it more often. I asked Mike several times if he could hear it and he always said no. So I was beginning to think, early signs of dementia. πŸ˜†

I finally figured out that it was coming from inside my head and it turned out to be tinnitus. I'm totally deaf in one ear and my ENT doc said that's probably the reason for it. I can hear it right now and it's SO FREAKING ANNOYING! πŸ˜†

Anyhoo...I was going to suggest that but I like the generator thing better. Especially since you mentioned your hubby was hearing the hammer thing.

Roylynx, I've never done EVP before. But I don't think doing it on your phone would work. The device itself is a humble dictaphone, or not so humble they can be a bit expensive, which is why I don't have one yet!
The idea is that the device adjusts the volume or input of volume into the microphone. So with an EVP session someone will ask a question, then stay quiet. When the device detects 'no input' it adjusts itself to let more signal in, this is when you get a lot of 'noise' on the recording. The theory goes that within this noise or static can sometimes include paranormal sounds either residual or intelligent ghost responses.
Unless your phone is able to adjust it's microphone to let in more signal, I'm not sure it would work.

That's my understanding of EVP recordings, as a complete novice with absolutely no experience.

Bahaha good one on the EVP! Lol

Sorry it might not be related to the story, but I have a question.
What do you recommend for doing EVP?
I did everything on my phone including recording EVP. My friends told me that it is fine but my older friend (my friend's uncle, whom also investigates haunted places) told me to use a better device for recording EVPs.

hahaha Roylynx that is very cute! πŸ˜†

I can't wait for my husband to read these comments. There was a time many years ago when he thought the hammering was a sign he was going mad. As the years went on he learned to accept it as someone hammering from a distance, and no longer feared it. He's one of the most relaxed people I know, generally speaking. But mental illness runs in his family. For him there's that question mark over things like this. It's always the fist thing he wants to rule out. Sort of a sanity check through validation, in a way.

We've been joking that when we do our first EVPs we'll probably hear someone say "You're both totally nuts" πŸ˜†

Yeup, this is sounding more and more like a generator by the minute. Next time, or if it ever happens again, we'll have to go for an evening stroll and play follow that sound.
People's hearing goes a bit daft after many years, so maybe we're each only hearing the frequencies which are audible to us.

pjs1977--Your back up generator idea is a really good one! I hear these things in several neighborhoods on a daily basis when out working. Several houses have them running even during daylight hours for whatever reasons. Tweed, the "generator theory" might also explain the hammering sound your husband said he hears. Those generators, with their repetitive sound actually do sound quite a bit like hammering.

There is one large house in a wealthy neighborhood that constantly has one of these things running. As I approach the street the house is on the lawnmower engine/hammering sound becomes quite pronounced. I don't know if that's what Tweed and her husband are hearing but nice work pjs!

Manafon, ha! So it really does happen. I kneeew there had to be some people who cut their grass after dark.
We've been delving into the totally out there theory that we're each hearing two sides of an event, or two separate activities taking place simultaneously. It's hard to know if what I hear is exactly same every time. I want to get one of those EVP thingies, been meaning to for ages anyway. If either of us hears whichever again, what the heck might an EVP thing pick up, worth a try I think.

Paul, Thanks for pointing that out about generators! This could very well account for some of these sounds over the years. Would never have thought of that, so thanks! 😊

Tweed I can't tell you exactly where the sound of a lawnmower is coming from but maybe what it is.
What your hearing could be a back-up generator
Since they run on the same exact engines used to
Power the lawnmower it would make sense no?
I have known quite a few people where they had to use back up generators at night to power their
Homes because the regular power was cut or extremely faulty. As for the hammering I can't understand that. That one is a bit confusing.
I hope this can shed some light on the subject.

Tweed--Your latest account was a great read. If there is a paranormal cause of the nighttime lawnmower you hear and the hammering your husband hears, I'm not sure what it would be. However, around ten years ago my wife were living in another town and there was a wacky guy who did indeed mow his lawn ONLY after dark. The neighborhood we lived in was an otherwise quiet community with tree lined avenues and many houses dating back to the later 1800s. It was otherwise generally peaceful at night.

My wife and I saw this guy on multiple occasions mowing his lawn in the evening after dark. We always used to comment to each other, "What do you think his neighbors think" and "What a wacko." If I hadn't seen this guy on my regular night route home, I would have questioned hearing a lawnmower at night. I don't know if you have an iconoclastic late night lawnmower man (or woman) or if the lawnmower/ hammering is paranormal but I thought I would let you know there is at least one lawnmowing person letting their freak flag fly in northern Illinois 😜.
